Design Studio Air explores a variety of analytic thinking methods, from concept mapping such as charting, alongside a range of three-dimensional media, from digital modelling to physical modelling. Linking these investigations will be the theme of air, which was explored conceptually, metaphorically, structurally, or technologically.
The brief for this design studio project is to design a responsive external skin façade system that responds to its surrounding environment. The project focuses on the techniques of computational design, using Grasshopper and Rhinoceros, to produce a flexible and changeable outcome in relation to weather and climatic aspects. The project was worked on intensively together as a group, conducting research, creating algorithms for the facade and fabricated scaled models of the Urban Coral project.
