Rawson Saunders Annual Report 2023-2024

Page 1

MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL

Dear friends of Rawson Saunders,

I am very proud to share with you the 2023-2024 Annual Report, a true testament to the theme of our 23-24 Annual Fund: The Power of Community. In the pages to follow you will see what we can accomplish together!

The past school year has highlighted how remarkable our community is in many, many ways. Our students proved their mettle in the classroom, won awards for writing poetry and illustration, and showed incredible teamwork on the field. Grandparents showed up in record numbers for our annual trick-or-treat parade. Parents volunteered in countless ways, from lunch supervision, to field trips, to planning our (spectacular) Masquerade Gala. I am grateful: Rawson Saunders wouldn't be nearly as extaordinary without all of you.

Our annual report is evidence of not only the support our community provides to our school, but to the committment we all share to rewriting the future of dyslexia education. Thank you to each and every one of you for continually going above and beyond for our children and our community.

PARENT ASSOCIATION

The Rawson Saunders Parent Association is an important part of our Rawson Saunders community. We are grateful for Candace Pugatch’s leadership as the Parent Association President for the 2023-24 school year.

From teacher appreciation activities, donating time and materials to service projects, organizing and running our book fair, and even showing up for lunch duty, our parent volunteers supported our school and community in extraordinary ways.

Thank you to the Parent Association and the many parents who are committed to celebrating and supporting our school.

MASQUERADE GALA

A beautiful evening of community and our most important fundraising event of the year, the Rawson Saunders Gala was held on February 24, 2024. The Gala brings together parents, grandparents, faculty, community members, alumni, and friends to celebrate and support our extraordinary school by raising funds for financial aid.

Thank you to our guest speaker, Weston Booth, RSS Class of ‘24

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CLASS OF 2024!

Nick Bay will be attending the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado, where he will major in Mechanical Engineering. Nick started at Rawson Saunders in fifth grade, and founded the Rawson Saunders robotics team in his freshman year of high school. When Nick reflects on his time at Rawson Saunders, he thinks the school did a great job of understanding both how to teach him and when to push him to achieve more.

Ben Cohen will be attending Concordia University in Austin, Texas, where he will be studying business. Ben first started at Rawson Saunders in third grade, and while his family moved away at the end of Lower School, he was excited to return to Austin and Rawson Saunders for his junior year. When Ben reflects on his time at Rawson Saunders, he feels that his teachers have all really taken the time to get to know him and that they all genuinely care about their students.

Logan Edgar will be attending the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Coloardo, where he will major in Mechanical Engineering. Logan joined Rawson saunders in sixth grade, where woodshop, math, science, and building classes fostered his passion for problemsolving. When Logan reflects on his time at Rawson Saunders, he thinks of the long, wooden boardwalk. He appreciates that Rawson Saunders provided him with smaller class sizes that allowed hm so many hands-on learning opportunities.
