As Valentine’sDay nears, Nevadans are preparingtomark the holidaywithmeaningful gestures andthoughtfulgifts. From gourmet chocolates to romantic eveningsout, the day offers a variety ofways to celebrate loved ones.AccordingtotheRetailAssociationof Nevada (RAN), 56percent of Nevadaadultsareexpectedtospend arecord $270.3 million to celebrate the holidaythis year, a 7.9percent increase from 2024and the highest overall spending projectedintracked history. Nationally, Valentine’s Dayspending isalso set to hit an all-time high, withthe National Retail Federation (NRF)projecting $27.5 billionin total spending. Onaverage, consumers plan to spend $188.81,up from $185.81 last year.
Popular gift categoriesinclude candy(56percent), flowers(40percent), greetingcards(40 percent), an eveningout (35 percent), and jewelry (22 percent).Significant othersremain the largest focus ofValentine’s Day spending,withconsumers planningtospend an average of $100.36per person. Other gift recipientsinclude relatives($29.82), friends ($14.61), children’sclassmates and teachers ($12.93),pets($11.90)and co-workers ($10.45).
Online shoppingcontinues to lead asthemost popular destinationfor Valentine’s Day purchases. Department stores rank second, with34 percentofconsumers indicating they plan to shop there. Other shopping destinationsinclude discount stores(29percent), florists (18 percent), specialtystores (18 percent), small or localbusinesses (17 percent),jewelry stores (13 percent), specialty clothingstores (11 percent) andcatalogs(2percent).
