Nevada Egg Prices Drop More Than 30%
After AB171 — Retailers Applaud Swift Action by State Leaders
The Retail Associationof Nevada is applaudingNevada’s legislative leaders fortheir swift, bipartisan actionin passing emergency legislation,AssemblyBill 171, whichhelped stabilize Nevada’s egg marketand deliver meaningful relieftoconsumers—loweringpricesby more than 30%, accordingto a new report from the Nevada DepartmentofAgriculture.
“Governor Lombardo, Speaker Yeager, MajorityLeaderCannizzaro, andMinorityLeaders Titus and Hafendidn’t just act—they delivered for Nevadans,”said Bryan Wachter,Senior Vice President ofthe Retail Association of Nevada.“In amatter of weeks, wewentfrom$10 eggs and emptyshelves to stabilized prices andstockedstores.This iswhatbold,effective leadership looks likewhen governmenttruly works forthepeople.”
Assembly Bill171, signedinto law onFebruary 13, grantedtheState Quarantine Officerthe authority to temporarily suspend Nevada’s cage-free eggmandate forup to 120days in response to aUSDA-declared animal disease emergencyorfederally declared disaster. At the height ofthe disruption, egg prices exceeded$10 per dozen, andgrocery stores imposed strict purchase limits. Within two monthsofenactment, prices dropped morethan 30%, offeringsignificantrelief to consumers.
"AB171 is a strategic tool for Nevada’s agricultural andretail sectors," Wachter added. "It ensures thatwhen crises arise, our state leadershave the flexibilitytoactquickly andkeep essential goods likeeggs on store shelves."
Governor Joe Lombardo, Speaker Steve Yeager, Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro, Senate Minority Leader Robin Titus, and Assembly Minority Leader Gregory Hafen worked together to unanimously pass AB171 in the early days of the legislative session, demonstrating a shared commitment to protecting consumers and stabilizing essential food supply chains.
