The last time the people of Nevada cast their votes was during the middle of the pandemic, and races, including governor, were not on that ballot. This will be the first election where voters will truly be able to reflect on leadership during the pandemic. QUESTION 2 –MINIMUM INCREASE.WAGE
In 2019 the Nevada Legislature created two vehicles to increase minimum wage in the state. First, legislation was passed to incrementally bring the state’s minimum wage to $12 per hour without health insurance and $11 per hour if health insurance is offered. Assembly Joint Resolution 10 was approved by the State Legislature in 2019 and 2021 to amend the Nevada Constitution to a minimum wage of $12 per hour, regardless of health insurance.

In 2019 the Nevada Legislature passed Senate Joint Resolution 8 to add a guarantee to the Nevada Constitution that “equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by this State or any of its political subdivisions on account of race, color, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, ancestry or national origin.” The Resolution was passed again in 2021 by the Legislature and placed on the 2022 ballot for voter consideration.

The holiday shopping season is starting earlier this year as shoppers are trying to stretch their funds due to high inflation. According to Neil Saunders, managing director of GlobalData, holiday shopping will begin sooner because consumers prefer to space out their purchases over a longer duration and avoid delays. “Retailers will be keen to get sales in early to secure their share of more subdued consumer spending,” he said. Saunders added that people should hunt for “good bargains and early offers and take those when they can, especially for products that are not seasonal like toys and electronics.” Retailers are continuing to slash prices to get rid of excess inventory, which can help people save money on early holiday shopping.
