TheRetailAssociationof Nevada (RAN) issuedthefollowingstatement Monday inresponse totheClarkCountyCommission agenda item 77, proposal to authorizetheadditionalone eighth of onepercent ofsales taxes.
“TheRetailAssociationof Nevada stronglyopposes the proposed salestaxincreasein ClarkCountyand condemns any policy that wouldfurther strainthebudgetsofhardworking residents andfamilies.
“Oureconomytoday looks vastly differentfromwhen the last salestaxincreasewas authorizedin2020. Rising costs of living, including housing, utilities, andeveryday essentials, havealready stretched householdbudgetstothebreakingpoint. Every dollar simply doesn’tgo as far as it used to,and increasing salestaxis agrosslyinappropriate move that will only deepen the financial pressuresfelt byourcommunity.
“Salestaxesare regressively and impact lower-incomeresidents disproportionately, driving upthe costof livingand creating additionalchallenges forthosealreadystruggling.Clark County hasnotprovided a clear or compelling justification forthistaxhike, makingiteven moreconcerningto pursue such a policyatthistime.
“Reaching intothe pockets of residents with a taxincreasenow willharm our most vulnerable communitymembers. We strongly urge the Commissioners to stand with their constituentsand rejectthis proposal.”
