Nevadans to Spend $556.3 Million for Mother’s Day

Consumer Focus on Meaningful Gifts and Experiences

Nevadans are poisedto spend an estimated $556.3 million this Mother’s Day, just behind 2023’s all-timehigh forthe second-highestfigure ever recorded, according to the Retail Association of Nevada (RAN).

Statewide spending is projected to rise2.4percent year over year,thoughitremains 3.2 percent lowerthan 2023's historic total. Nationally, the National Retail Federation(NRF) reports that 84.0 percent of consumers plantohonorMother’sDay,withaveragespending of $259 per persononpopular gifts such asflowers,jewelry, greetingcardsand special outings.

Flowers andgreeting cards remain tried-and-truefavorites, with 74.0 percentand 73.0 percent of shoppers, respectively, planning to purchasethem.InNevada,flower salesare projected to reach$51.6 million, while greeting card spendingis anticipatedtototal $17.2 million.

Special outingsare also high on the list, with 61 percentofshoppersplanning experiences that are expected togenerate $103.4millionin spending. Gift cards (53 percent, $56.2 million) and clothing oraccessories (48percent,$50.3million) remainstrong contenders. While only 42 percentof consumers plan to buyjewelry, the categoryleads allothers intotal dollars spentwith anticipated sales reaching$110.3million. Other popular categories include personal services (34 percent), housewares(29percent), booksorCDs (26 percent) and consumerelectronics (22 percent).

Consumers continue to prioritizemeaningfulgifts:48 percentsay finding something unique or different is mostimportant, while 42 percent focuson creatinglastingmemories. Gifts of experience remainagrowing trend, particularly among men —36 percentplan to give experiences thisyear, up from 29 percent in 2019.

When it comes toshopping destinations, onlineretailerslead the way(36percent), followed by department stores(32 percent), specialtystores likefloristsand jewelers (29 percent), local and smallbusinesses (25 percent), discount retailers (22 percent),specialtyclothing stores (12 percent) and catalogs (2 percent).
