Nevadans are anticipated to spend $543.1 million this Mother’s Day, marking the secondhighest expenditurein the National Retail Federation’s (NRF) survey history, following last year’s record-breaking figures.
According to projections from the Retail Association of Nevada (RAN), spending this year will decrease 5.5 percent compared to last year’s high. Nationally, the NRF reports that 84.0 percent of consumers intend to celebrate Mother’s Day, with average spending of $254.04 per person ongifts suchas greeting cards, jewelry, flowers, and special outings.
Flowers and greeting cards are the most popular gifts, with 74.0 percent of survey respondents planningto give them. In Nevada, spending on flowers is expected to reach $50.2 million, whilegreeting card spending will hit $17.1 million. Other favored gifts include special outings(59 percent, projected to generate $94.3 million), giftcards(51percent, totaling $50.7 million), and clothing or accessories (43 percent, $47.7 million). Jewelry (43 percent), personal services (32 percent), housewares (27 percent), books or CDs (24 percent), andconsumer electronics (21 percent) are also among the top choices.
As for shoppingdestinations, online stores and department stores are the most common choices, eachselectedby 35 percent of participants. They are followed by specialty stores like greeting card/gift stores, florists, and jewelers (29 percent), local/small businesses (25 percent), discountstores (23 percent), specialty clothing stores (12 percent), and catalogs (2 percent).
