Nevadans Gear up for a $206 Million Celebration as National
Nevadans are planningto go all out to celebrate the nation’s founding with the biggest birthday party of the year. Retailers in the Silver State are preparing for record consumer spending of $206million* for Independence Day, according to the Retail Association of Nevada. Nationwide,consumers are expected to spend $8.9 billion, a 5.3 percent decrease from last year’s figure,according to a recent survey by the National Retail Federation. However, spending perperson across the country is projected to average $92.44 on food, beverages, patrioticdecorations and other items, a 2.2 percent increase from the previous survey. Independence Day remains one of the most widely celebrated holidays of theyear, with 86 percent of Americans planning to show their love for the red, white and blue.
"While national Independence Day spending is showing signs of softening, Nevadans are expected tospend arecord $206 million this year—a reminder of both the strength and sensitivity of ourlocal economy," said Bryan Wachter, President of the Retail Associationof Nevada. "Retailersare navigating a complex environment marked by inflation concerns, wage pressures, andshifting consumer priorities. This year’s spending is less about unchecked optimismand more a reflection of how Nevadans continue to prioritize community, tradition, and celebration—even as they remain cautious with their budgets."
The NRF reportsthat the most popular way to celebrate this year is a picnic or barbecue, with 61 percent of respondents planning to attend such gatherings. Other popular activities include fireworks andcommunity celebrations (41percent), taking a vacation (13 percent)or attending a parade(12 percent). Additionally, 29 percent of consumers intend to purchasea patriotic itemforthisyear’s festivities.
