Traditional Thanksgiving Meal Cost Down 4.5 Percent Eight Thanksgiving Items Down in Cost Indulging in a Thanksgiving feast this year won't dent your wallet as much as it did in 2022, although the overall expense reflects historically elevated costs. The cost of a traditional Thanksgiving meal decreased by 4.5 percent from last year's peak but remained 25.0 percent higher than 2019, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) price survey. The estimated cost of a Thanksgiving meal for 10 this year is $61.17 on average, marking a 4.5 percent reduction from the previous year. However, this year’s meal is $12.26 higher than 2019, underscoring the influence of heightened supply costs and inflation on food prices since the onset of the pandemic in the national economy. The Retail Association of Nevada (RAN) anticipates that consumers in Nevada will spend approximately $17.5 million on Thanksgiving Day food this year—a 4.5 percent decline from last year but a 31.2 percent increase from 2019. Among the 12 components constituting the traditional Thanksgiving meal, eight experienced price decreases compared to 2022. The turkey, the centerpiece of many Thanksgiving tables, saw the most substantial price reduction. The cost of a 16-pound bird decreased by $1.61 to $27.35, per the AFBF survey. Additional items with reduced prices include whipping cream (down 51 cents), fresh cranberries (down 47 cents), miscellaneous ingredients (down 18 cents), pie shells (down 18 cents), cubed stuffing (down 11 cents),

whole milk (down 10 cents), and green peas (down 2 cents). Conversely, items that saw price increases are pumpkin pie mix (up 16 cents), rolls (up 11 cents), veggie tray (up 2 cents), and sweet potatoes (up 1 cent). Since 1986, the American Farm Bureau Federation has conducted informal price surveys of classic items found on the Thanksgiving Day dinner table.
