SCIENCE CONCLAVE

Hon’ble VC addressing the gathering A tw o-day Science Conclave on 5th and 6th March 2013 at YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad, Haryana, w as organized with sponsorship and financial support from Department of Science and Technology, Haryana. It w as planned to hold Invited talk sessions for tw o days and also organize Science Exhibition, w hich was remain opened for both the days in parallel session. Key speakers and scientists w ere invited from various reputed scientific institutions and universities. For science exhibition the models w ere invited from colleges. The Science Conclave-2013 took place under the patronage of Chancellor Shri Jagan Nath Pahadia, Vice chancellor Lt. Gen. KS Yadava YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad and Director General, Department of Science and Technology, Haryana. The tw o days program of the Science Conclave w as comprised of lectures presented by the experts, interdisciplinary platform discussions, experiences and progress relating to basic science research and application-oriented themes. These interactions

The Science Conclave and Science Exhibition w ere a great success and more diverse than ever before. More than 1200 visitors attended the event and benefited from this unique opportunity. The approximate 910 participants from various schools and colleges from Delhi, Faridabad and Palw al along w ith their teacher coordinators had been registered and participated in the Science Conclave-2013 w ith as huge and tremendous response. They gathered the know ledge in the field of science and technology and get informed by the future openings. There w ere nine invited lectures comprised w ith one keynote lecture. The invited lectures covered emerging trends in science and technology applications. The Science Exhibition w as presented by the college students in parallel session w hich are categorized in Science and Technology Group. More than 46 models w ere presented by 95 participants of graduate level. The participants of School and Colleges along their teacher coordinators had been delivered bags w ith notepad and pen at the registration desk.

YMCAUST BULLETIN Inauguration of Science Conclave -2013 The programme w as inaugurated by the Honorable chief guest of the programme Mrs. Nirmal Yadav, Rtd. Chief Justice Punjab and Haryana High Court. The conclave presided over by Lt. Gen. KS Yadava YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad. The programme w as started w ith ‘deep prajw allan and sarasw ati vandana’ by the hand of Chief Guest and all the dignitaries on the dice. During the programme Prof. Tilak Raj, Dean & Chairman, HAS Department has w elcomed & introduced about the college and need for such a programme frequently. He outlined about the programme theme and objectives at that time. The Honorable Chief Guest Mrs. Nirmal Yadav has stressed on the need of Science and Technology for national development during her speech. She also spoke about the applications of Science and Technology in the various fields such as electric pow er, agriculture, industry, defence, medicine.etc. She also emphasized that the students of school w ould participate in National Development in near future so basic initiative taken by Department of Science and Technology, Haryana w as really appreciable. She congratulated the YMCA University for providing the platform to students of school and colleges of NCR. She w ished for all success. Prof. A. K. Sharma, Dean (E&T), Prof. Sandeep Grover, Chairman (Mechanical Engg.), Prof. S.K. Aggarw al, Dean (Management Studies), Prof. M.L. Aggrawal, Dean(Academics), Prof. P.R. Sharma, Dean(Student Welfare), Prof. S. K. Chakarvarti and faculty members of the University w ere present in the inauguration ceremony. Honorable Vice Chancellor interacted w ith the school teachers and encouraged them about the promotion of science and technology. They advised the teachers to improve the moral values in the students so that the students can take part in the progress of Nation. He ensured them this activity w ould support them in future development of students. The science exhibition could help the students to understand science through hands on experiences and visualizing the scientific concepts to their day to day lives.
Prof S. K Chakarvarti delivered the key note lecture. In this lecture various nanosized devices w ere displayed through pow er point presentation. It w as really new experience for the students of rural areas. The topic “Wonderful World of Small Wonders” w as attractive to draw concentration of students.
Mr. Kuldeep Goyal from DRDO, Delhi presented “Science and Technology from Defence to Civil”. In his lecture he told about the science and technology and its application in defence.
Prof. Keya Dharmvir (Punjab University, Chandigarh) delivered the lecture on The Wonder World of Nano. She told about the miniaturization of things using nanotechnology.
The lecture on the impact of thermal system on environment w as presented by Prof. B.B. Arora, DTU, Delhi.
Prof. K.K. Gupta delivered the lecture on “Environmental Radiation: Exposure and Effects”.
Prof. H. C. Tanega (DTU, Delhi) presented the lecture on Information and Coding.
Application of Mathematics, Statistics & Computational Techniques in Engineering Sciences w as presented by Dr. Kallol Roy from BARC, Mumbai and he explained its challenges in precision electronics & computational instrumentation design and the effective use of these tools for modeling materials processes, microstructures, and properties.
The lecture on Soft Computing w as delivered by Prof. Aditi Sharan from JNU, Delhi
The lecture on science on intelligence given by Prof. A.K. Sharma. In his lecture, he explained the intelligence system and latest research in the field of computer technology. Apart from this he discussed about the future aspects of intelligent system.
Total 09 lectures w ere presented in Science Conclave from the eminent speakers from reputed Institutes and Universties for the participants from school and college.The chief guest of the closing ceremony w as Mrs. Meenakshi Yadava w ho appreciated the exhibition and the science conclave. She stated that today technology is used in every sphere of life. She spoke about giving importance to promote science and technology among school children for bringing about a healthy future for country, w hich has been achieved through conducting such type of programme. The Science Conclave-2013 conducted by Department of Humanities of Applied Sciences, YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad under the sponsorship of Department of Science and Technology, Haryana. Prof Tilak Raj, Dean & Chairman, Department of Humanities and Applied Sciences presented the highlights of the w hole programme. He thanked Department of Science and Technology, Haryana for financial support to conduct the Science Conclave-2013. He thanked Director, DST Haryana, Honorable Vice Chancellor, Registrar, All Deans and Chairmen, resource persons, students, teachers from school, faculty members and organizing team. YMCAUST BULLETIN Science Exhibition -2013 at YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad, sponsored by Deaprtment of Science and Technology, Haryana. The tw o days Science Exhibition under the Science Conclave2013 w ith the theme "Science & Technology Promotion" w as hosted by YMCA University of Science and Technology under the sponsorship by Science and Technology Department, Haryana on 5-6th March. Total 46 models w ere presented by approximate 100 participatory exhibits comprising of innovative w orking models and investigation based projects. The event saw young enthusiastic participants from different Colleges viz, DAV Centenary, Nehru Govt. College, GGDSD College Palw al, Aggarw al College Ballabgarh, MSIT Delhi.The exhibition w as categorized in tw o parts one w as Science Group Models and other w as Technology Group Models. The students from the various school and colleges came to participate in Science Conclave-2013 visited science exhibition at their scheduled time mentioned in program detail. This science exhibition w as open for tw o days 9AM to 5PM. Today rapid developments are taking place in the field of Science and Technology. New discoveries and findings are brought out by scientists all over the w orld. New discoveries and inventions help man in many w ays. Even though there are some bad sides, there are many good sides. Prof. Naresh Chuhan, Prof. Rajkumar, Dr. Naresh Yadav and Prof. Navdeep Malhotra from YMCAUST, Faridabad judged the Science Exhibition. The event w as judged on 6th March 2013.
The judges panel gave their judgment after inspecting each project on their ow n merit. The best models w ere selected in two categories one is Science and Technology group. The first prize for Science Group w on by Preeti and Bhuvan students of GGDSD College, Palw al students for their model “Liquid Biofertilizers”. The Model “Biofuel: the w ood alchohal” w as selected for second prize w hich w as presented by Sohini Gupta and Nisha Tew atia of Nehru Govt. College, Faridabad. In technology group, the first prize w as w on by Sandeep and Sapan Gupta from YMCAUST, Faridabad for their model “Sw itching by Mobile phones”. The second prize in this category availed by Shasank and Komal, DAV Centenary College, Faridabad for presenting the model “Next Generation illumination” in Science Exhibition. the coordinators of the event. The Science Exhibition w as coordinated by Dr. Renuka Gupta (Assistant Professor in EVS) and Mrs. Preet Kaur (Assistant Professor in Electronics). The judges applauded the students for their novel ideas w hich would help the w orld to become a much better place to live in. Prof. Tilak Raj (Dean & Chairman HAS Department), thanked all the participating teams for making this event a success and appreciated their novel projects. Dr. Sonia convener of science conclave appreciated all the students w ho presented the model in the exhibition and gave their best contribution in the Science conclave-2013

YMCAUST BULLETIN Workshop on “Research Techniques and MADM Approaches” 16th & 17th April, 2013 L
The Department of Mechanical Engineering, YMCA University of Science & Technology, Faridabad organized a w orkshop on “Research Techniques and MADM Approaches” on April 16-17, 2013 for Research scholars of the department. The broad themes of the w orkshop were to make participants aw are about the finer points of research methodology and various tools and techniques being employed in research for decision making process. The techniques taught w ere Graph Theory, Analytic Hierarchy Process, Interpretive Structural Modeling, Grey Analysis, Analytic Netw ork Process and Quality Func tion Deployment. The preparation for organizing this w orkshop commenced in the department about one month ago. The participants had interactive sessions w ith the speakers. They found the w orkshop useful and learned techniques for their research area. Certificates were given to the participants. EXPERT TALK On 15th April 2013, Department of Computer Engineering conducted it's first expert lecture for its final year under graduate and post graduate students. The expert talk w as given by Dr Dimple Juneja Gupta, Professor and Principal, Computer Science and Applications , MMU, Mullana, Ambala. The talk w as head by Dr. A.K.Sharma, w ho formally introduced the speaker to the students. It w as attended by various faculty members of the department. The topic for the talk w as Agent Based Computing . Th is three hour lecture familiarized the students w ith the basic concepts of software agents its types ,agent communication languages and various agent based protocols. It also threw light on the possible research areas where software agents find their scope . The talk concluded w ith an interactive question answ er session w herein the students took keen interest.

NUKKAD NATIKA AT LAL CHOWK
ELEMENTS CULMYCA-2K13 “Elements Culmyca”, the annual inter college cultural cum technical festival of YMCA UST was celebrated with th th overwhelming joy and vigor from 18 -20 February, 2013.It brought together the students of various colleges under one umbrella and thus proved to be a medium of enormous exchange of technical “know-how” and cultural festivity. The three day fiesta was based on the theme “Alacrity” and began with various competitions held by the Cultural and Technical societies of the Uni versity. Students from not only our University but other colleges like The Manav Rachna College of Engineering also enthusiastically participated in the events. The festival also witnessed three magnificent pro-nights of celebration and fervor, one on each of its evenings. These included- DAZZLE, a brilliantly put up Fashion Show which saw a talented bunch of students of the University walking the ramp
with oodles of zeal and zest thus rendering the stage ablaze. For the metal heads, a mega show, ‘Woodstock’ was put up which witnessed Rock Bands from various colleges competing to be the best of the night. The most awaited, star studded ‘Celesta’ was held on the third and the concluding day. A lot of Honorary and esteemed dignitaries were also kind enough to grace the occasion. Day 1 witnessed the esteemed presence of Sh. Mahender Pratap Singh, Minister of Technical Education, Haryana while Sh. Anand Kaushik, M.L.A,Faridabad was kind enough to grace the occasion on Day 2. On the final day, our honorable Vice Chancellor, Dr. K.S.Yadava presided over the function. Under the enlightening guidance of our esteemed Vice Chancellor, Dr. K.S.Yadava, Elements Culmyca 2K13 proved to be a huge success.

YMCAUST BULLETIN REPORT INDUCTION PROGRAMME for newly recruited staff members of the university University held a day long Induction Programme for the new ly recruited staff members on 5th Feb. 2013. It w as a first of its kind programme for the University employees and w as received w ell by all the participants. Programme started at 10:00 AM w ith the assembly of new ly recruited staff and Programme coordinators Dr. Arvind Gupta, Dr. Atul Mishra, Ms. Anju Gupta and Sh. Dinesh Arora in the conference room of Electrical Engineering Department. and Programme coordinators distributed the folders containing folders, w riting pads and other w riting accessories and briefed new ly recruited staff members about the induction programme and schedule of the program. A visit to different departments and sections of the university accompanied by Programme coordinators w as carried out. Employees met Chairmen, HOS and other heads in various departments and got an opportunity to familiarize themselves w ith a high level view of functioning of each department. After the brief tour of the university staff members re-assembled at the conference room w here now all Deans/Chairpersons, COE, COF, CHW, Chairman (SAF), Head (Purchase &
Maintenance), WS, TPO, Librarian, SO, DR(E), DR(P) and JE joined them. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Lt. General K.S. Yadava Registrar, Smt. Shimla and Chairman Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Sandeep Grover, chaired the meeting. Each new ly staff member introduced himself/herself briefly stating their previous w ork experiences and currently assigned section/department. Therafter, Dr. Sandeep Grover w elcomed the new members and gave a brief introduction of the University. Subsequently, Registrar and Hon’ble VC w elcomed and addressed the new ly recruited members. It w as follow ed by an interactive High Tea session w herein the participants interacted w ith all the officials a bit more informally. After a lunch break, participants and Programme coordinators assembled back w ith officials from DR(E), COF/SO, DR(P), DR(Acd.), TPO, COE sections/departments who briefed the staff about the functioning of their section and introduced them to various rules and regulations of the University. Programme concluded w ith a great success.

REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATION The Republic day w as celebrated in the YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad at the sports ground of the university. The Vice-Chancellor Lt. Gen. (Retd) K.S. Yadava w as the Chief - guest of the day. He hoisted the National Flag at 09:30 AM. A large number of students and staff including Deans, Chairpersons, HODs and the Registrar of the University Mrs Sh imla w ere present during this occasion. The vice-Chancellor encouraged the youth to contribute w hole-heatedly in the activities of national interest and the University. At last, the ceremony w as closed with singing of the National Anthum by the gathering. Day Care Centre cum Play School at YMCAUST, Faridabad
TODDLERS HAVING FUN & ENJOYING WITH THE TOYS
From now on the faculty and staff working in YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad need not w orry about their children w hile they are at w ork. The University has set up a play school cum day-care centre for children of teaching and non-teaching staff.
The centre comprises of a play area, a dining room, a dormitory, a class room w ith lobby, and a pantry. It w ould be a state o f the art learning centre providing best available facilities. The children w ill also get the first aid medical facilities at the centre. The centre has the capacity to accommodate 15 -20 children starting from the age of one year. The University has constituted a Committee comprising the senior faculty and staff members for looking after the functioning of the centre. “The centre is first of its kind in the state of Haryana. It w ill facilitate not only the female staff but the male staff members even if their spouses are not w orking for the university. The services w ill be available from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM spanning over the office hours” said Mrs Shimla, the Registrar of the University. “The great pace at w hich this dream has turned in to reality makes us proud. It is the vision of the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor and efforts of teachers including Dr. Divyajyoti Singh, Ms. Sandhya Dixit and Ms Shilpa Munjal that helped expedite this agenda of our ongoing projects”, added the Registrar.

Lok Bharti conducted interactive w orkshop on the topic “Financial Modelling”. 3. Shri B.S. Mehra delivered a lecture on “Labour Law s” to make students aw are of legal rights of the employees. 4. Prof. S.K. Narang helped the students in adopting optimism w ith his lecture on “Positive attitude building”. 5. Department of Management Studies organised a syllabus workshop on 25/04/13 to redesign the scheme and syllabi of MBA programme to enhance employability of students.. The w orkshop w as attended by Prof. M S Kumar( Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida) , Prof. Sanjiv Mittal(IP University, Delhi) and Dr Ritu Gandhi(DAV IM, Faridabad) along w ith internal faculty members of the department of management studies. Experts provided various valuable suggestions for the improvement of proposed scheme and syllabi. 6. BOS meeting w as conducted on 10/05/13. In the meeting, titles of Ph.D thesis of batch 2013 w ere finalised. New Scheme and Syllabus also got approved in BOS. 7. Department of Management Studies conducted Alum ni Meet on 27th April, 2013. SMART CLASS AT YMCA, UST YMCA, UST, Faridabad has initiated a program of establishing SMART class rooms in all the departments ’ of the university. These class rooms w ill be equipped w ith the state-of-the art smart class equipments and softw are for making the teaching and learning both effective and fun. In this regard first class room has been set up in the department of computer engineering and the first session of the training for the faculty has been organized on April 18 th, 2013. Faculty from all the departments of the university have participated in the training session and it had been a success, informed the Registrar.
