Newsletter Two Day Science Conclave

A Two-Day Science Conclave was organized by the University on 25th and 26th October 2017 in collaboration with Department of Science and Technology, Haryana to mark the Swarna Jayanti Celebrations. Science Exhibition, Short Films and Expert Lecture on science and technology were the main attractions of the Conclave in which more than 1000 students from various educational institutes have participated. Chief Minister Mr. Manhoar Lal was addressed the valedictory function of a Two-Day Science Conclave organized by YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad in collaboration with Department of Science and Technology, Haryana to mark the Swarna Jayanti Celebrations in the University campus. He also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of various projects amounting to over Rs. 60 Crore. The function was presided over by ViceChancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Manohar Lal said that the contribution of the famous Indian Scientist Jagadish Chandra Bose in the field of science is unmatched. On his name, the University will be known as ‘JC Bose YMCA University of Science and Technology’. All the formalities related to this would be completed at the very earliest. He said that the State Government would sympathetically think over the demands raised by the University for the Creation of new Teaching and Non Teaching posts and budgetary provision for new courses. He assured that he would visit the University again.

Multi-storeyed Residential Complex Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar and Registrar Dr. S. K. Sharma performed “Bhoomi Puja” for multi-storeyed residential complex to be constructed in the YMCA University premises at Faridabad on 27/09/2017 A total of 72 quarters will be constructed for University employees in the premises. Briefing about the project, Mr. Ajay Taneja, Executive Engineer said that the quarter would be G+ 9 storeys along with basement and stilt for parking purpose and to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 36 Crore. The deadline for completion of work is 24 months.

Newsletter Rashtriya Media Sammelan Evem Filmotsav

YMCA University in association with Vishwa Samvad Kendra (VSK) organized Two-day 'Rashtriya Media Sammelan Evem Filmotsav' - (RMSF-2017) on 10th and 11th November /2017. Research scholars, media persons and students of various States and different part of the Haryana participated in the event and won prizes in different categories including Research papers, Articles, Short Films, Documentaries and Photography. The aim of the Conference was to bring together learned journalist, media persons, academic research scholars and students. This will provide a platform for exchange of ideas regarding the research findings and new advances in mass communication and journalism to discuss the practical challenges encountered in different domains of applications. The program will consist of plenary & parallel lectures and parallel contributed presentation sessions. Mr. Kartikeya Sharma, CEO of iTV Network was the Chief Guest of the valedictory function which was presided over by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar. Parcharak (North Region) Mr. Anil Kumar and Secretary of Vishwa Samvad Kendra, Haryana Mr. Rajesh Goel were also present on this occasion.

Independence Day Celebration The University celebrated 71st IndependenceDay with patriotic fervour and gaiety. The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Dinesh Kumar hoisted the Tri-colour at the University campus. He also took salute of March past presented by the Security Staff of the University and addressed the gathering.

Newsletter National Academic Depository (NAD) Cell

The University signed an agreement with the Central Depository Services (India) Limited (CDSL) for setting-up the National Academic Depository (NAD) Cell on 01/12/2017 and designated Assistant Registrar Mr. Sachin Gupta as Nodal Officer for NAD who will work under the guidance of Dr. Naresh Chauhan, Nodal Officer (Digital India). Expressing pleasure over the agreement, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar said that creating and maintaining a digital depository for the academic certificates is an important task that comes with a lot of responsibility. He said that this initiative would further strengthen the verification of academic credentials of the students by the prospective employers as well as institutions of higher studies. Registrar Dr. S. K. Sharma said that with this initiative, students no longer have to obtain true copies of marksheets or certificates duly certified at the time of admissions. In near future, the University may choose to discontinue issuance of paper based certificates. Controller of Examination Dr. Hari Om said that maintaining academic awards in an electronic depository which would provide benefit to educational institutions, students and employers by enabling online access of academic awards which will eliminate the need for persons to approach educational institutions for obtaining transcripts of such awards or marks-sheets for verification.

Foundation day celebration University celebrated the 9th foundation day on 16/09/2017. On the occasion Vice Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar said that Foundation Day is the day to remember the old days and to self-churning for future plans for any Institution. The University is working on important plans for the coming days which include increase the strength of student up to five thousand and to introduce new advanced courses in the University.

Newsletter Competition on innovative ideas on Internet of Things

Samsung Electronics, Korea Division visited YMCA University and organised an interactive session for students on IoT products and expected features on 15/11/2017. During the session, students were asked to renerate and provide their expectations from next generation of IoT products or some device which can be used for safety and security of children and women. About 50 project ideas were received and evaluated by the technical team of the Samsung Electronics, Korea and winners were awarded with prizes. The first prize won by Bhupinder and Harish Rana for their project ‘Smart Ring’. Similarly, Abhishek Saroha and Aman Pratap have bagged second prize for their project ‘Future Smart Devices’ and Manu Dutt and Rajiv Kumar have won prize for their project ‘Striaksha’. With the aim to promote academic research on technology-based innovation and application, the University has decided to provide finance assistant to the students for their innovative projects. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar today announced that financial assistance of upto Rs. one lakh would be provided to the students for their technologybased innovation research projects. The Vice-Chancellor was addressing the prize distribution function of a competition on innovative ideas on Internet of Things (IoT) products organised by the Samsung Electronics, Korea at Department of Computers Engineering.

Vigilance Awareness Week Celebration The University in collaboration with NHPC Limited organised various competitions as a part of Vigilance Awareness Week Celebration which was being celebrated from 30th October to 4th November-2017. This year, the theme of the Vigilance Awareness Week is “My Vision-Corruption Free India”. Mr. L.K. Tripathi, Chief Engineer (Vigilance), NHPC Limited was the Chief Guest of the function which was held to mark the occasion.

Newsletter Workshop on “Using Electronic Resources Effectively”

With a view to ensure the optimum utilization of electronic resources for the benefits of the users, the University organized a user awareness workshop on “Using Electronic Resources Effectively” on 17/11/2017. The workshop was conducted by the University Library for the benefit of the faculty members, research scholars and Post Graduate students of the University. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar inaugurated the workshop. In his inaugural address he stressed upon utilization of e-resources to their full strength to improve the quality of research. He said that such type of workshops guide the academic community in right direction and helps to save the valuable time of the researchers. He appreciated the initiatives taken by the librarian, Sh. P N Bajpai for organizing the workshop. The University invests a lot of funds on library e-resources; therefore, these should be utilized to their optimum. The faculty members can also access these eresources from their home or from anywhere through the remote access facility.Earlier, Librarian Mr. P.N. Bajpai delivered the welcome address and gave an overview of University Library and spoke about the importance and objectives behind organising the workshop. He said that such workshops provide the platform to the faculty members, research scholars and students to interact and communicate with the e-publishers and discuss about the problems of searching the relevant material. He emphasized the need of such workshops in present changing scenario of digital era. The representatives from the Elsevier and Informatics India has participated in the workshop and told about Science Direct, Mendeley, JCCC and J-Gate Discovery Tool in detail. Dean (Institutions) Dr. Sandeep Grover, Dean (FET) Dr. Tilak Raj, Chairman (CE) Prof. Komal Kumar Bhatia and faculty members were present on the occasion. The workshop was attended by 209 participants. Librarian Coordinated the program and extended a warm vote of thanks at the end of the workshop.

Constitution Day The University celebrated “Constitution Day” on 27/11/2017, also known as Samvidhan Divas in a befitting manner to commemorate the adoption of Constitution of India. The programme was organized by the Vivekanand Manch of the University. It may be recalled that on this day in 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted the Constitution of India, and it came into effect on 26 January 1950.

Newsletter Yoga Camp

The University in collaboration with Bhartiya Yogsansthan organised a week long yoga camp for girl students living in the hostels. The camp was being coordinated by the Women Welfare Cell of the University. A number of girl students residing in the hostel participated in the camp and learned basic aasans of yoga. Yoga experts from Bhartiya Yogsansthan gave the tips about various types of yoga to keep body and mind healthy and disease free. They also demonstrated many yogic postures and explained their benefits in detail. Pranayama, meditation and aasans were the special features of this camp. The participants happily observed that they have got detailed knowledge about different aspects of yogic exercises. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar appreciated the efforts made by Women Welfare Cell for conducting yoga session for girl students.

Inter College Yoga Competition The Yoga teams of YMCA University won Inter-College Yoga Competition in both boys and girls Categories which was held on 14/09/2017 in the University premises. Echelon Institute of Technolgy, Faridabad and Rawal Institute of Engineering & Technology, Faridabad bagged second and third positions respectively. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar congratulated winners and extended his best wishes to all the participants.

Newsletter FDP - Application based Technologies in Engineering

FDP on Entrepreneurship : An Effective tool to Improve Industry

The week-long Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Recent Developments in Application based Technologies in Engineering” organised by the Department of Electronics Engineering and TEQIP Cell of the University concluded on 07/12/2017. More than 50 faculty members participated in the programme.

National Level Faculty Development Programme on ‘Entrepreneurship: An Effective Tool to Improve Industry – Institute Interaction was organized by the University. The programme was being organized with the financial support from DST-NIMAT Project Government of India. As many as 20 expert lectures will be held during the two-week programme.

The main objective of the programme was to make all the participants aware and cognizant about the latest developments in various applications which are technology-based. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar was the Chief Guest in the valedictory session.

Prof. B.S. Satyanarayana, Vice Chancellor of BML Munjal University, Gurgaon was the Chief Guest of the inaugural session and Dr. S. K. Goel, Executive Director of Star Wire (India) Limited was the Guest of honour. The session was presided over by Prof. Dinesh Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of the University.

In his address, Prof. Dinesh Kumar emphasised the need for organising such workshops in which the teachers could further enhance their skills by continuous interaction with experts in the relevant areas of Engineering and Technology. Vice-Chancellor congratulated the Department for the success of the programme and presented certificates to the participants.

Speaking on this occasion, Prof. Satyanarayana highlighted the effectiveness of such kind of development programme for the faculty members and said that it is an apt platform for them to increase their knowledge towards entrepreneurship.

Registrar Dr. S.K. Sharma also spoke on this occasion. Dr. Munish Vashishath, Chairperson of Electronics Engineering Department delivered the formal vote of thanks. Dean (Institutions)

Addressing the gathering, Dr. S. K. Goel that the topic selected for the programme is very relevant keeping in view the changing scenario. He emphasised on partnership between academia and Industry to carry out joint research. He also offered projects for University scholars in his venture.

Digital Awareness Workshop

In his address, Prof. Dinesh Kumar appreciated the decision for organising programme for faculty and said that in recent times, the entrepreneurship has become an important area of study and considered to be a solution for generating employment and providing new goods and services.

Digital Awareness Workshop was organized by Digital India Cell in collaboration with PNB in YMCAUST on 22.8.17.The aim of the workshop was to make students aware about Banking facilities, Bhim App and Education Loan for their higher studies. The program was of duration of approx. 3 Hrs. It was beneficial to students

Newsletter Workshop on ‘Vedic Mathematics and Quality Education’

Expert Lecture—Cognitive Automation and Design thinking

The University organized a one-day workshop on ‘Vedic Mathematics and Quality Education’. The workshop was coordinated by the Vivekanand ManchYMCAUST of the University in association with Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas (SSUN), New Delhi.

The University organized an expert lecture on ‘Cognitive Automation and Design Thinking’ for the students of B.Tech and MCA on 12/09/2017. The lecture was held in joint collaborations between Department of Computer Engineering and Department of Information Technology. Ms. Charu Smita, working with IBM India – Transition and Transformation Competency, was the keynote speaker on this occasion. Ms. Smita, having 14 years of experience in Information Technology Industry and served Fortune 500 organizations like Prudential Financial (New Jersey), DBS (Singapore), Telstra (Telecom Major - Australia) and Dubai Health Authority, described about the basic principles of Cognitive Automation and Design Thinking. Students learned about the process as well as methods and tools to analyze user needs, prototyping, and generating ideas. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Jyoti Verma, Dr. Rashmi Popli and Ms. Jyotsna and highly appreciated by the students.

Mr. Atul Kothari, Secretary of Shiksha Sanskriti Uthan Nayas, New Delhi was the key-speaker of the occasion and delivered a lecture on ‘Character Building and Personality Development’. The programme was presided over by Prof. Dinesh Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of the University. In his address, Prof. Dinesh Kumar described Vedic Mathematics as an art and said that vedic maths is more systematic, simplified and unified method than conventional system. It is a mental tool for calculation that solves the complicated mathematical problems by very simple way. It cultivates an interest in mathematics and enhances logical thinking process, he added. Prof. Dinesh kumar appreciated that efforts being made by Shiksha Sanskriti Uthan Nayas to restore the traditional glory of Indian Education System.

Interactive session on ” GST”

In this second session, officials of SSUN Mr. Desh Raj Sharma and Mr. Rakesh Bhatia delivered lectures on ‘Quality Education’ and ‘Vedic Mathematics’. Ms. Alokdeep also spoke on the occasion.

Industry Relation Cell of the University organised an interactive session on ” GST -Goods and Services Tax” by Mr. Neeraj Bhatia on 29/08/2017 for MBA students.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar felicitated Mr. Kothari and other dignitaries by presenting stole as mark of remembrance. Convener of Vivekanand Manch Dr. Pradeep Kumar Dimari presented the formal vote of thanks. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Sonia Bansal.

Mr. Bhatia who is a Chartered Accountant with 12 years of experience in: Sales Accounting, Credit Operations, Financial Management, Budgeting, Direct Taxation, Treasury Operations, Reporting and Documentation, Team Management and Corporate Planning gave an indepth view of GST which is considered as a major reform in the Indian Taxation System.
