Newsletter Prof. Dinesh Kumar elected as President of the section of Material Science

Prof. Dinesh Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad has been elected as President of the Section of Material Science for 105th Indian Science Congress for 2017-18 on 23rd February 2017. Prof. Dinesh Kumar expressed that materials science is a relatively new and very broad field. Rapid advances in technology have increased the importance of materials science and engineering in many folds to the society and it has received much attention from researchers. Being a President of the Section of Material Science, he would work for the promotion of research based on creating materials that would result in true innovations and lead materials sciences through this in the country. It is need of hour to develop material science into a wide area of research that includes information technology, biotechnology, and environment and energy technologies, and to contribute to the building of a sustainable society .

Two new Laboratories Two new Laboratories with state of the art equipment and facilities in the discipline of Chemistry and Environmental Science opened on 1st March 2017 for the students of YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar inaugurated the laboratories which will facilitate the M.Sc. students for their research work.

Newsletter Convocation

Second Convocation of YMCA University of Science and Technology was organized on February 15, 2017 to confer degrees on the students passed out in the year 2014, 2015 and 2016. The convocation ceremony was held at the main ground of the University. Haryana Governor, Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki who is also the Chancellor of the University and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar presided over the function and distributed the degrees to the passed out students. Haryana Education Minister, Sh. Ram Bilas Sharma was the Guest of Honour and Chairman of University Grant Commission, Prof. Ved Prakash was the distinguished guest of the function and deliver the Convocation Addresses. Amongst the presence of dignitaries 1283 B.Tech, 367 M.Tech., 164 MBA, 90 MCA and 148 M.Sc. students and 20 Ph.D. Degrees were awarded. Also, different Gold Medals to the meritorious students for year 2014, 2015 and 2016 pass out batches of undergraduate and postgraduate courses awarded. In all 13 Gold Medals, three Governor-Chancellor Gold Medals of the value of Rs. 75,000 each, three Chief Minister Gold Medals of the value of Rs. 65,000 each and three ViceChancellor Gold Medals of the value of Rs. 51,000 were awarded to the meritorious undergraduate students for the year 2014, 2015 and 2016 and four Vice-Chancellor Gold Medals awarded to meritorious postgraduate students for the year 2016.

Republic Day Celebration YMCAUST Faridabad celebrated Republic Day, Vice Chancellor hoisted the Tri-colour in the University premises.He also took salute at march past presented by the Security Staff and various clubs of the University and addressed the gathering. The flag hoisting ceremony was followed by the singing of the National Anthem and cultural performances. 2

One Day Digital Awareness Programme

The Digital India Cell of YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad in collaboration with Common Service Centre, Faridabad known as Atal Seva Kendra organised a one-day Digital Awareness Programme for the students and faculty members of the University. Prof. Sandeep Grover, Dean, Institutions was the chief guest on the occasion and inaugurated the programme. Mr. Vijay Naresh Jatwani, an alumnus of YMCA University and entrepreneur who is actively involved in Digital India initiative in the field of digital literacy and Mr. Nippun Gupta, professional consultant in Information Technology were the keynote speaker on the occasion. The programme was presided over by Dr. Naresh Chauhan, Nodal Officer of Digital India programme of the University and coordinated by Dr. Neelam Duhan. In his address, Prof. Sandeep Grover appraised the students about the Digital India initiatives taken by the Government in the field of education. Also, he highlighted the Digital India initiatives implemented by the University. He apprised that the government has started Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) platform 'Swayam' that provides high quality education on various subjects covering all disciplines for students across the country.

Women’s Day The Women Welfare Cell of the University organised various cultural and creative activities and competitions to observe International Women’s Day on 08/03/2017 to commemorate the contribution of women in the society. About 250 students participated in the competitions.

Newsletter National Conference on “Trends and Advances in Mechanical Engineering”

The two-day National Conference on “Trends and Advances in Mechanical Engineering” under Haryana’s Golden Jubilee Celebrations, was organized by Department of Mechanical Engineering of YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad on 16-17 March 2017. More than 100 participants from different states attended the Conference.The conference concluded with the valedictory function presided over by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar. Dr. S.P. Singh, Professor at IIT, New Delhi was the Chief Guest of the function and Dr. Naveen Kumar Garg, Senior Scientist, Council of Scientific & Industrial Research, National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi was the Guest of the Honour. Deans, Dr. Sandeep Grover, Dr. C.K Nagpal were also present on the occasion. Dr. Rajeev Saha and Dr. Nikhil Dev coordinated the valedictory session. During valedictory session, Dr. S.P. Singh explained the topic Dynamic Mechanical Characterization of Iron and Steel using Multi-scale Modeling Simulation particularly on Nano-Materials and Dr. Naveen Kumar Garg explained the topic ‘Calibration and Measurement Capabilities’.

International Yoga Day in a befitting manner on 21/06/2017. In spite of heavy rain in the morning, a large number of people, yoga volunteers, staff and faculty members and students of the University participated in the event and made it successful.

Newsletter National Conference on “Advances in Mathematics and Computing” (AMC-2017)

National Conference on “Advances in Mathematics and Computing” (AMC-2017) was organized by Departments of Computers Engineering and Humanities and Sciences of YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad on 1-2 March 2017 under the Haryana Golden Jubilee Celebrations. The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp and Sarasvati Vandana. Prof. R P Bajpai, Vice-Chancellor of Veltech Dr. RR & Dr. SR University, Chennai was the Chief Guest of the Conference and Prof. B.K. Dass from University of Delhi was the Guest of the Honour on the occasion. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar presided over the programme. Deans, Dr. Sandeep Grover, Dr. C k Nagpal, Dr. Raj Kumar and Chairman, Computer Engineering Dr. Komal Kumar Bhatia, invited speakers, Prof. D. S. Hooda from GJU, Hisar and Prof. H C Taneja from DTU, Delhi were also present on the occasion. Dr. Neetu Gupta, Dr. Neelam Duhan and Dr. Sapna Gambhir coordinated the inaugural session. In his presidential address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar Kumar described the significance of Mathematics. He said that India has the privilege of introducing decimal number system.

‘World Health Day’ The YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad observed ‘World Heath Day on 7th April 2017. The University in association with Rotary Club Faridabad organized a Cancer Awareness cum Screening programme and Seminar to mark the occasion. The objective of the programme was to create awareness among female students and faculty members about Cervical and Breast cancer, their symptoms, the screening and detection techniques, stages of cancers and their treatment techniques. 5

Newsletter Faculty Development Programme ‘Real Time Data Acquisition and Analysis using LabVIEW’

YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad has organised a week long Faculty Development Programme (FDP) from May 08 to 12, 2017 on ‘Real Time Data Acquisition and Analysis using LabVIEW’. The programme was organised under the supervision of Dr. Munish Vashishath , Chairman, Electronics Engineering Department and coordinated by Dr. Pradeep Kumar, Mr. Lalit Rai and Mr. Prashant Kumar , all faculty of Electronics Engineering. Dr. Vashishth apprised that the programme was focused on LabView software developed by National Instruments, which is commonly used for data acquisition, instrument control, and industrial automation on a variety of operating systems. It is very useful in SCADA and automation. It is extensively used by all the leading industries for automation, supervisory control and data acquisition.

National Technology Day To celebrate achievements of innovation and technology in the country, National Technology Day was observed at YMCA University of Science & Technology, Faridabad on 09/05/2017 in a befitting manner and a seminar on "TechnologyA Step towards Implementation of Ideas” sponsored by Haryana State Council for Science & Technology was organised to mark the occasion.
