Newsletter Centre of Excellence (CoE) on HVAC Systems
The YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad on August 3,2016 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Daikin Airconditioning India Pvt. Ltd (DAIPL) to start a Centre of Excellence (CoE) on HVAC Systems in the University that will impart practical skill training and industrial exposure to the students within the campus. The Centre of Excellence (CoE) is first of its kind set up by the Japanese Company – Daikin India in any Educational Institute in this region. The MoU was signed by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Daikin Airconditioning India Pvt. Ltd Mr. Kanwal Jeet Jawa on behalf of the DAIPL and the Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Dinesh Kumar on behalf of the University. On this occasion, Prof. Dinesh Kumar and Mr. K.J. Jawa jointly inaugurated the Centre for Excellence, which has been developed in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Laboratory of the University and inspected the equipments being provided in the centre. In this Centre, the experts from DAIPL will impart training to the faculty and students on the advanced technologies in Heating Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) System using air-conditioning units supplied by DAIPL.
YMCA University accredited with ‘A’ grade by NAAC The YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad has been accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with ‘A’ Grade and a CGPA of 3.08 in the First Cycle of Accreditation. The result of the assessment was declared in the 18th meeting of the Standing Committee of NAAC held on November 5, 2016 and shall remain valid for the next five years. The University was assessed and evaluated on teaching and co-curricular activities, research work and extension & infrastructure facilities by the seven-member peer NAAC led by Prof. (Dr.) Avinash C. Pandey (former Vice-Chancellor, Bundelkhand University) from October 13—15, 2016.
Newsletter Special interactive session between the alumni and academicians of the University
The YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad organised a special interactive session between the alumni and academicians of the University on August 7,2016. The objective of the discussion was to promote the practical skill based quality education among students and to bridge the gap between the Industry and Academia courses. The interactive session was attended by all deans, chairpersons and senior faculty of the University. A number of alumnus between 1975 and 1979 passing out batches participated in the discussion. The alumni, who are well settled in their entrepreneurship and holding respectable positions in the corporate sector, shared their experiences. They stressed on the need to further improvement in academic programmes of the University to enhance the capabilities of the students.
Independence Day Celebration The University celebrated 70th Independence Day with patriotic fervour and gaiety. The Vice Chancellor of University, Prof. Dinesh Kumar hoisted the Tri -colour at the University premises. In his address, Prof. Dr. Kumar highlighted the importance of the day. He recalled the contributions of the national leaders in the early post-independence contributions like Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and Lala Lajpat Rai.
Ambulance Service at the University
In order to provide round the clock medical accessibility to the students of YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar launched Ambulance Service at the University premise on 1st Sep,2016. The Vice-Chancellor flagged off the newly procured ambulance and handed over to the Proctor Dr. Munish Vashistha and hoped that the new ambulance facilities will enable students to get medical facility at the earliest. Registrar Dr. Sanjay Kumar Sharma, Dean Institutions Prof. Sandeep Grover and Chief Hostel Warden Dr. Vikas Turk were also present on this occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dinesh Kumar said that the ambulance facility will be available free of cost to all students residing in hostels and studying in various departments of the University.
Gym at University Hostel With a view to promote fitness activities among students, the YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad has set up a Gym with modern facilities in the University premises on 6th October,2016. The Gym located in the boyâ€™s hostel was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dinesh Kumar. Appreciating the initiative taken by the Chief Hostel Warden Office, the Vice-Chancellor said that the gym, fully equipped with modern equipments will help to improve the fitness of the students.
Newsletter Lecture on ‘Vishwa Paridrishya Me Ubharata Bharat’
The YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad organised a lecture on ‘Vishwa Paridrishya Me Ubharata Bharat’on 12 August,2016. Prominent expert Sh. Ravi Ayyar who has authored many books and an expert in Vedic Mathematics delivered the Lecture. The programme was organised by the Vivekanand Manch of the University in association with Initiative for Moral Cultural Training (IMAT), Gurgaon. Sh. Ravi Ayyar has conducted more than 200 Yoga camps and 200 youth motivational camps in 40 countries and has conducted over 500 workshops on Vedic Mathematics at many prestigious universities in 20 countries. At present, he is associated with Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh as Saha Samyojak and Advisor of Centre for International Studies, Mumbai. The programme started with the lighting of the lamp. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dinesh Kumar welcomed Sh. Ayyar and said that the objective of such lectures is to inculcate moral values and assist students in overall growth of their personality. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Pradeep Kumar, Coordinator of Vivekanand Manch.
Vigilance Awareness Week Celebration The YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad in collaboration with NHPC Limited organised a debate competition as a part of its Vigilance Awareness Week Celebration which was celebrated from 31st October to 5th November-2016. The theme for the Vigilance Awareness this year is “Public Participation in promoting integrity and eradicating Corruption”.
Newsletter Road Safety Talk and Mega Blood Donation Camp
The YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad in association with Rotary Club of Faridabad East and Marg Darshan – an NGO on Road Safety Awareness organised a Road Safety Talk and Mega Blood Donation Camp in the University premises on 11 August, 2016. More than 250 volunteers, most of them students, donated blood in the camp. The programme was started with tree plantation followed by blood donation camp which was formally inaugurated by Mr. Alok Kumar, Inspector General, National Investigation Agency, New Delhi and Prof. Dinesh Kumar, Vice Chancellor of the University. Sh. Virender Vij, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Faridabad Headquarter) was guest of honour of the programme. Mr. Alok Kumar and Prof. Dinesh Kumar also donated blood and encouraged the donors to donate blood. During the programme, Students were also made aware of the various traffic rules and safety measures to be used while on road. On this occasion a pledge was also taken by the students on road safety. In his welcome note, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar appreciated the activities carried out by Rotary Club of Faridabad East and Marg Darshan for social cause. He said that donating blood is a noble cause and inculcates the feeling ‘Joy of Giving’ in youth.
Cleanliness Campaign The University launched an intensive week-long cleanliness campaign in the campus on 30 September to mark the celebrations of 147th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi. The objective of the campaign was to increase awareness among students to keep the University premises and its surroundings clean and to facilitate the development of positive attitude towards cleanliness.
Newsletter Activities in Management Studies Department 1. The Department celebrated 70th Independence day, Azadi 70: A journey of 70 glorious years of Independence on 22/08/2016. The activities conducted were Card making, Slogan writing and Dramatics and singing competition. 2. The department organized an essay writing competition in collaboration with Syndicate bank officials, under Vigilance awareness week on 2nd November 2016. 3. MBA 2nd year students Anuj Lohia, Prayag Rana, Parag Nikhare obtained first position at Quiz whiz 2016, An inter university quiz competition at DAV Centenary College, Faridabad on 28/09/2016. 4. MBA 1st year students Jyoti Raghav, Avinash Kaur obtained 3rd position at 2016, Art Fest 2016 (PPT presentation) at DAV Centenary College, Faridabad on 7/10/2016. 5. Newsletter Conference on ‘Sustainable Development through Research in Engineering and Management’
National Level Competition by Electronics Sector Skills Council of India
An International Conference on ‘Sustainable Development through Research in Engineering and Management’ (SDREM 2016) was organized on 26 December,2016 by the YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad in association with International Society for Productive Enhancement, USA was inaugurated under the Haryana Golden Jubilee Celebrations. The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp and Sarasvati Vandana. Dr. R.K Sharma, Director of Solid State Physics Laboratory, New Delhi, Defence Research and Development Organisation was the Chief Guest of the Conference and Dr. Dinakar Kanjilal, Director, Inter-University Accelerator Centre, New Delhi was the Guest of the Honour. ViceChancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar presided over the programme. Registrar Dr. Sanjay Kumar Sharma along with Conference Chair Dr. Arvind Gupta and Dr. Munish Vashistha were also present.
The YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad in collaboration with Electronics Sector Skills Council of India (ESSCI) under aegis of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship conducted two days National Level Competition to select the contestants for the skill of Electronics to participate in 44th WorldSkills2017 International Competitions. The WorldSkills Competitions, widely known as the ‘Skills Olympics’, are held in different countries every two years and brings together over 1,000 participants from all over the world to compete in about 50 skills. This time, the WorldSkills Competitions are scheduled in October 2017 at Abu Dhabi where India Skill contingent is participating in over 26 skills.
Academician from USA, Mr. Brian Prasad, Dr. M. K. Jain from Kenyatta University, Nairobi, Kenya and Dr. Subhash Sharma, Central Queensland University, Melbourne, Australia were the keynote speakers of the inaugural session of the Conference and presented their views on role of Engineering, Science and Management in Sustainable Development. 7
Newsletter Faculty Development Programme (FDP) organised by the Computer Engineering Department
The week-long Faculty Development Programme (FDP) organised by the Computer Engineering Department of YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad in collaboration with SPSS South Asia Private Limited on ‘Big Data Analytic and Data/Text Mining using SPSS’. More than 40 faculty members and Ph.D. scholars from reputed organizations participated in the programme. During week long programme, the experts from IITs, Delhi University, Thapar University and various Industries answered the various queries raised by the participants. The Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar was the Chief Guest of the valedictory function and said that attending such faculty development programs help the faculty to enhance their skills of teaching concepts practically. During the programme, the participants were awarded certificates by the Vice-Chancellor. Dean and Chairperson, Computer Engineering Department Prof. C.K. Nagpal relieved the keynote address in which he described Big Data analytics as an important driver for research. Prof. Arvind Gupta, Prof. Naresh Chauhan, Registrar Dr. S.K. Sharma were also present on the occasion. Dr. Neelam Duhan, who was the coordinator of the programme delivered the vote of thanks. Dr. Duhan informed that the programme was focused on the recent research areas including text mining, context mining, deep learning, big data and map values, machine learning and other such advance research topics. In addition to expert’s lectures by eminent academicians, the programme also included a three day training programme by the company professionals.
