2.3.3 Pulp and paper industry 2.3.3.1 Background The pulp and paper industry accounts for 29% of the total volume of harvested logs in 2018-2019 (6 million cubic metres) [24]. According to ANZSIC, the pulp and paper industry is categorised under group 15 of the manufacturing subdivision. Figure 14 provides the locations of Australia’s pulp and paper mills [2].The primary heat users in this sector are across 44 sites, which mostly use up to 0.5 PJ per year [2, 6] although several large pulp/paper factories use more than 0.5 PJ. The pulp and paper industry produces a wide range of products, including various types of pulp, photocopier papers, packaging papers, newsprint, and tissue. In 2018-2019, 4 million cubic metres of wood logs were used in domestic pulp and paper, and industry sales were more than 10.5 billion AUD,
