On behalf of the board and team here at Naas Racecourse, you are very welcome to the Naas Town Goes Racing & Summer BBQ Raceday today. This is the first of our weekend summer season racedays and as well as some great racing in store, we also have our summer BBQ and live music after racing by No Limits!
Moran Owner Liaison
A special welcome and thanks to our sponsors today; Lily & Wild, TRM, Care At Home Services and Irish Stallions Farms EBF. This marks the 3rd of 6 races sponsored by local and leading equine nutrition company TRM. They also sponsor our Trainers League and BTO League with over €10,000 worth of TRM products up for grabs this season for trainers, breeders and stable staff. They are also having their summer party here today so we wish them all a great day. You will see lots of signage around the racecourse of our fantastic supporters Care At Home Services, thank you to Liam Tedford for his continued support.
We look forward to welcoming Kevin and Davina Walsh onto the winner’s podium from Lily & Wild, our fantastic racecourse caterers, for their sponsored race. They recently opened a restaurant in Newbridge and I would highly recommend making the trip over, the food is fantastic as you would expect from the amazing standard they set at the racecourse.
We are also delighted to welcome back Naas GAA and all their guests to our restaurant today for their annual fundraiser. The team at Naas Racecourse loves working with local clubs and businesses and we hope everyone at Naas GAA enjoys their day and we wish them best luck in this years championship as they go for four in a row!
We also are delighted to welcome back Brian Kennedy for his annual charity mascot race in aid of Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland and the Waterford Marine Search & Rescue. Make sure to be out on the track at 3pm to see it and if you can please support the bucket collections.
On the track, we have some fiercely competitive fields and we wish the very best of luck to all of today’s owners, trainers, riders and stable staff who have a runner here. Thank you for your support and we hope to see you in the winner’s enclosure today.
We have lots of options for racegoers today so make sure to check out our BBQ station located next to the grandstand along with the usual selection on the ground floor of the Grandstand Café and in The Post self-service restaurant. Meanwhile, our public bars are located in The Circle next to the parade ring and in the Grandstand itself. Should you have any queries on any of the above, feel free to call into the Race Day office located next to the turnstiles where a member of the team will be happy to assist.
Our next raceday, the Yeomanstown Stud Irish EBF Stakes Raceday, takes place on Wednesday evening July 24th and we look set for another super evening of racing, BBQ and live music from Rake The Ashes. Visit naasracecourse.com for some great value hospitality packages.
Best Wishes

The Chairman, Directors and Management of Naas Racecourse would like to thank today’s sponsors:
Wednesday 24th July, 2024 (e)
At every meeting there are specially qualified equine veterinary surgeons on duty to look after the well-being of all the horses racing. There is a vet in attendance at the start of each race who follows the horses throughout the race and is quickly on hand if a casualty occurs. It is normal procedure to erect screens around any horse receiving veterinary treatment. This allows the veterinary surgeon some privacy to fully assess the horses’ injuries and racegoers should not assume the worst if screens are erected around an injured horse. The Blue Cross ambulance is always present to transport the horse back to the stable yard for further treatment if necessary. A secondary veterinary surgeon is in attendance in the stable yard to assess and treat any horse requiring such attention post race. The horses’ welfare is always our priority.

I am looking forward to participating in the 2024 Corinthian Challenge race at The Curragh Racecourse to raise awareness and vital funds for the Irish Injured Jockeys Fund.
Working here at Naas Racecourse, I witness daily the dedication and sacrifices jockeys make for our sport. My aim is to raise €3,000, with all proceeds going directly to the Irish Injured Jockeys Fund to support their incredible work.

Selection FLASH THE CASH
An interesting maiden. Of the newcomers, Tempest Star comes from a stable in tremendous form, while Skillman Ave is a well-bred and speedily-bred sort for whom the market may guide. Origami picked up well to win a barrier trial here and should go well, as should Flash The Cash after a decent Queen Mary run. Moyglare entry Sweet Chariot should improve for her Cork debut, but there should also be improvement to come from the runner-up that evening LUNIGIANA who pulled well clear of the remainder and can go one better. At first glance NOUVEL ESPOIR’s latest run when ninth at Navan was disappointing but he came home well despite not being helped by his track position and that was in much better company. Back in the basement level, he may have a class edge over these. Tuesday’s Roscommon winner Scarlet Dancer is 3lb well in under his penalty and won’t mind this shorter trip and Lady Daar showed promise on handicap debut at Down Royal. American In Paris threw it away at the start when third to Turn Up The Beat here over 5f and her chance depends on how she gets away from the gates this time. [Mark Nunan]

A case can be made for almost all of these. Shandy is interesting in handicap company having been highly tried. Scorchio was middivision at Ascot but the form of her previous Cork win puts her right in the mix. National Lady has to redeem herself after a disappointing effort at Fairyhouse. Magical Vision is very interesting if she handles the ground, while Ostraka will be thereabouts on her Cork effort. The selection is TAI TAM BAY(nap) who ran a fine race off her highest mark at the Curragh last week and should go very close. [Justin O’Hanlon]

This summer Naas Racecourse will celebrate the 100th anniversary of its first fixture, which took place on June 19, 1924.
To mark this momentous occasion, writer, historian and podcaster Turtle Bunbury has produced a fittingly celebratory volume, The Centenary of Naas Racecourse, with the subtitle Nursery Of Champions.
With individual chapters devoted to each decade, and lavishly illustrated by a superb range of historic and contemporary photographs, this splendid large-format work conveys the rich history of the venue in an entertaining and instructive manner.
Bunbury is a prolific researcher and has unearthed a wealth of archival material dealing with the origins of the racecourse and the personalities and horses associated with it.
The text is laid out in a reader-friendly way, comprising chunks of fascinating detail about individual horses, people and races. Some are bite-sized, others more extensive, but uniformly digestible. It’s a format that allows the reader to dip in and out of the book, skipping from one decade to another, always assured of finding an interesting anecdote or nugget of information.
In that respect, the book goes far beyond its brief as a history of a single racecourse. One of the author’s strengths is a reservoir of knowledge of well-known Irish families and public figures, enabling him to provide expansive detail about prominent owners or leading riders and trainers.
The book describes the contribution of local families who have been involved through the 100 years of the track’s existence and embraces the twin themes of continuity and progress in charting a story from modest origins to the vibrant and ambitious racecourse of today.
Almost every significant Irish racing personality of the past 100 years has had a connection with Naas Racecourse. Many great Irish horses have competed there. Bunbury’s words and an array of wonderfully atmospheric photographs do admirable justice to a proud 100-year tradition.

Last month’s Gowran handicap winner Elinor Dashwood is effectively 10lb higher now so she will need to have improved again in the interim but that is possible. Front-running has worked for Chicago Fireball the last twice so it would be a surprise if Ben Coen deviates from those tactics while the lure of the unlucky loser will tempt plenty into siding with Democracy but supporting these types is usually a costly exercise.
