Managers’ Welcome

On behalf of the board and team here at Naas Racecourse, you are welcome to our final flat fixture of the summer season, the Tally-Ho Stud Irish EBF Ballyogan Stakes Summer race day. We have had high-quality racing throughout the season and today is no different with several exciting prospects heading a competitive eight-racecard.

Tally-Ho Stud and the Irish EBF have been wonderful supporters of Naas Racecourse over the years and we are delighted to welcome both back today. Their support for today’s feature race has been rewarded with a top-class renewal, including several British raiders. A big thank you to the O’Callaghan Family who own and manage Tally-Ho Stud, one of Ireland’s leading stallion farms whose roster is headed by the likes of Kodiac and Mehmas.

We are also thrilled to welcome back the team from the Hartes Group today, owners of three of Kildare’s leading gastropubs: The Ballymore Inn, Dewdrop Inn & Brewhouse, and Hartes in Kildare Town. All three are multi-award-winning gastropubs and are perfect locations to round off your day at the races and make sure to avail of the 15% discount voucher they offer in the racecard. Thanks to all at the Hartes Group and we hope they enjoy their day with us today.

Last but not least, a warm welcome to TRM who sponsor our final race of the day. One of Europe’s leading manufacturers and distributors of nutritional feed supplements and general healthcare products for horses, their continued sponsorship here at Naas Racecourse is much appreciated.

Along with today’s quality race card, we also have some activities in our parade ring marquee. Firstly, a big welcome to the teams from AIRO and HRI Ownership who are hosting a syndicates and racing club day that includes lots of panel discussions on all things ownership. Anyone involved or interested in getting involved should make sure to pop in. We are also delighted to welcome retired members of the Irish Stable Staff Association to the Panoramic Restaurant. Our thanks to them for all their hard work over the years and we hope they have an enjoyable day watching the racing from a different angle.

We have lots of free family fun activities including face painting, magic shows and bouncy castles. As ever our super caterers, Lily & Wild, have lots of tasty options for racegoers to enjoy in the Post Restaurant and in the Coffee Shop in the grandstand, BBQ in the enclosure while we have full bar options in the Circle Lounge.

Our next race day is on September 19th and don’t forget Taste Of Kildare takes place on September 20th-22nd so be sure to check out www.tasteofkildare.ie for more details on what should be a lovely weekend of food and fun. Best Wishes

RACE VERDICT

Likely an informative fillies’ maiden. Celtic Motif holds leading form claims on her recent Curragh debut third behind barrier trial winner Falling Snow, whose stablemate FITZROY GARDENS won a trial on that same day and gets the vote on racecourse debut. Ger Lyons has a strong team of juvenile fillies so his debutante Study The Lady has to be worth a look. Of those to have already run Shelbiana and Twolatebabydoll appeal, while Garden Of Eden is surely capable of much better than she showed on debut. [Alan Hewison]

RACE RESULT

A Grand Day Out!

We had the Naas Racecourse Annual Members trip on Wednesday 14th August. Our thank you to members Liam O’Keefe who wrote a wonderful write-up on the day and Mike Smith took some brilliant pictures.

Oh! What a beautiful morning, 22 degrees, a clear blue sky and all set for a great day's outing for our annual members trip. Over 80 people of all ages boarded two buses at the course at 9:30am. And anyone lucky enough to be on the bigger one was treated to a morning tipple of "sauvignon blanc" (courtesy of the author) before we departed. We arrived at Willie Mullins's yard in Closutton at 10:30 and were greeted by Willie and Patrick who gave us a full and comprehensive insight into the daily workings of their fine establishment.

They have 210 horses, many of them bought in France and were put through their paces by their work riders from various countries and some learning experience for the Summer including Ian Balding’s grandson from Great Britain. We saw Vauban, Fun Fun Fun, Galopin Des Champs and many more equine greats. A sculpture of Al Boum Photo who won two Gold Cup’s was also visible. Willie was great to spend nearly 2 hours of his valuable time with us before we departed for lunch.

The Lord Bagenal was our dining venue, well organised and with quick service. We had a wonderful dinner with fantastic company and we departed for Gowran Park races "STUFFED" at 3:30pm.

There wasn't that big of a crowd there, the skies darkened at 6:00pm and it got a bit cool. Aiden O’Brien one runner, Wingspan won the big race. Smooth Tom, 2nd in the race last year, went 1 better this time at odds of 6/1. Sakti, and The World’s Astage which I backed both fell out of the stalls. On departure our bus was delayed 20 minutes while waiting on 1 passenger who was collecting after the last race. A day out like this costs €55 and I strongly recommend more people buy the annual membership badge with the senior rate of €115. Well done Milly, Niamh and Brian looking forward to 2025 already!

RACE VERDICT

The well-bred newcomers Dramatic and Revoke represent powerful yards who have strong teams of juvenile fillies and a win for either would come as no surprise. The Harrington runner COLD HEARTED showed plenty of promise over C&D in April and had an excuse when a disappointing favourite at the Curragh the following month. She’s been given plenty of time to mature and may be able to make her experience count. [Mark Nunan] Source: Racing Post

RACE VERDICT

Unpenalised for her decisive C&D Listed success last month, Nighteyes is the obvious one here but she may have been a little flattered by coming up the golden highway under the stands’ rail. By contrast, DANCE NIGHT ANDDAY had to be switched and finished towards the less-favoured far side, unlucky not to be second. Ross O’Sullivan’s filly has again run well at Listed level since and may be capable of further improvement. Firebird has had two soft touches and this will show what she’s made of while first-time blinkers are an interesting addition to You Send Me. [Mark Nunan]

At every meeting there are specially qualified equine veterinary surgeons on duty to look after the well-being of all the horses racing. There is a vet in attendance at the start of each race who follows the horses throughout the race and is quickly on hand if a casualty occurs. It is normal procedure to erect screens around any horse receiving veterinary treatment. This allows the veterinary surgeon some privacy to fully assess the horses’ injuries and racegoers should not assume the worst if screens are erected around an injured horse. The Blue Cross ambulance is always present to transport the horse back to the stable yard for further treatment if necessary. A secondary veterinary surgeon is in attendance in the stable yard to assess and treat any horse requiring such attention post race. The horses’ welfare is always our priority

The Racing Post Predictor is a ‘Computer Generated’ predicted outcome of the race in visual form, generated by an algorithm of key factors (including eg current form, ratings and going.)

RACE VERDICT

He hasn’t won for ages but old boy ART OF UNITY hit form around this time last year when going close a couple of times. He’ll be better for last month’s fifth at Bellewstown and the softer the ground, the better his chance. Cork winner Ginormous wouldn’t like it to get too testing while Mymomentintime is on a very appealing mark but tends to finish tamely. Woohoo ran well behind the former at Cork and has a life while Lady Daar will be coming home well if the gaps open for her. [Mark Nunan] Source: Racing Post

RACE VERDICT

Johnny Murtagh has a strong hand with in-form top-weight Shayzann and, at the other end of the scale, THOR’S HAMMER (nap) who has been gelded since running moderately at Galway. The booking of Declan McDonogh for the selection is intriguing and his premier handicap third at the Curragh is strong form. The consistent Slieve Binnian and See Me Through, who is back at a more suitable trip, are greatly repected while Fiver Friday is very useful on her day. [Mark Nunan]
