On behalf of the board and team here at Naas Racecourse, you are very welcome to the final of our Summer Season Days featuring the Yeomanstown Stud Irish EBF Stakes (Listed) and the ARQANA Irish EBF Marwell Stakes (Listed). Racegoers have enjoyed some brilliant racing and live music over the last few weeks and today looks no different with Rake The Ashes set to wrap up another very successful summer season.
It is great to welcome back the team from Yeomanstown Stud and a big thank you to the O’Callaghan family for their continued partnership. One of the leading stallion farms and producers of racehorses in Europe, 2024 looks set to be another wonderful year for the team with Dark Angel again excelling with his progeny at the sales and on the track.
We are also delighted to welcome Arqana back to Naas Racecourse for the Arqana Irish EBF Marwell Stakes. One of the premier sales companies in Europe and their sponsorship has been rewarded with a quality field of speedy two-yearolds that has been assembled for today’s renewal. Sean Barrett Bloodstock Insurances has joined NFP and continues to cater for some of the largest names in the thoroughbred industry providing advice and assistance. We welcome NFP and their guests today and hope an enjoyable day is had by all.
Another sponsor on today’s card, O’Neill & Co, is an independent practice of Chartered Surveyors & Auctioneers with extensive experience in the valuation and appraisal of commercial, residential, agricultural and development land and property. We are thrilled to have the team join us for another year. Racing today is wrapped up with the support of Bert House Stud. Located in Athy, the team there provide a range of services to the industry from boarding, foaling and sales prep. A big thank you to Bert House Stud, and indeed to all of today’s sponsors including our long-time supporters at the Irish EBF, thank you to Nessa Joyce and all the team there.
A special mention goes to Hurling For Cancer, a wonderful event that takes place at Carlow GAA Netwatch Cullen Park on Monday 12th August at 7pm. Featuring some of the biggest names in racing and hurling for a great cause, tickets and further information are available on www.hurlingforcancer.ie.
We wish the very best of luck to all of this evening’s runners, owners, trainers, riders and stable staff. Thank you for your support and we hope to see you in the winner’s enclosure today.
Our BBQ Marquee is fully sold out today but we still have lots of options for racegoers so make sure to check out our racecourse map to see all your options. Should you have any queries or need any assistance, feel free to call into the Race Day office located next to the turnstiles where a member of the team will be happy to assist.
Our next raceday is our richest raceday of the year, with the feature being the €300,000 Irish EBF Ballyhane Stakes on August 5th on the bank holiday Monday. The Melbourne Cup will also be on display so make sure to visit naasracecourse. com for some great value hospitality and admission packages. Best Wishes

The Chairman, Directors and Management of Naas Racecourse would like to thank today’s sponsors:
Monday 5th August, 2024
At every meeting there are specially qualified equine veterinary surgeons on duty to look after the well-being of all the horses racing. There is a vet in attendance at the start of each race who follows the horses throughout the race and is quickly on hand if a casualty occurs. It is normal procedure to erect screens around any horse receiving veterinary treatment. This allows the veterinary surgeon some privacy to fully assess the horses’ injuries and racegoers should not assume the worst if screens are erected around an injured horse. The Blue Cross ambulance is always present to transport the horse back to the stable yard for further treatment if necessary. A secondary veterinary surgeon is in attendance in the stable yard to assess and treat any horse requiring such attention post race. The horses’ welfare is always our priority

Selection PEARLS AND RUBIES
Very competitive but perhaps AMAZON LADY can complete the hat-trick stepping back up to stakes company from what looks a good draw. Pearls And Rubies would be a huge player if able to repoduce her Cheveley Park form of last year but the signs this year haven’t been good. The main threats could well come from the British challengers Nighteyes and Pinafore, the former with trip/ground to suit. [Alan Hewison]

This summer Naas Racecourse will celebrate the 100th anniversary of its first fixture, which took place on June 19, 1924.
To mark this momentous occasion, writer, historian and podcaster Turtle Bunbury has produced a fittingly celebratory volume, The Centenary of Naas Racecourse, with the subtitle Nursery Of Champions.
With individual chapters devoted to each decade, and lavishly illustrated by a superb range of historic and contemporary photographs, this splendid large-format work conveys the rich history of the venue in an entertaining and instructive manner.
Bunbury is a prolific researcher and has unearthed a wealth of archival material dealing with the origins of the racecourse and the personalities and horses associated with it.
The text is laid out in a reader-friendly way, comprising chunks of fascinating detail about individual horses, people and races. Some are bite-sized, others more extensive, but uniformly digestible. It’s a format that allows the reader to dip in and out of the book, skipping from one decade to another, always assured of finding an interesting anecdote or nugget of information.
In that respect, the book goes far beyond its brief as a history of a single racecourse. One of the author’s strengths is a reservoir of knowledge of well-known Irish families and public figures, enabling him to provide expansive detail about prominent owners or leading riders and trainers.
The book describes the contribution of local families who have been involved through the 100 years of the track’s existence and embraces the twin themes of continuity and progress in charting a story from modest origins to the vibrant and ambitious racecourse of today.
Almost every significant Irish racing personality of the past 100 years has had a connection with Naas Racecourse. Many great Irish horses have competed there. Bunbury’s words and an array of wonderfully atmospheric photographs do admirable justice to a proud 100-year tradition.

The Bog Bank is an obvious starting point in this grade and comes here in fine form so has to be a major player. However, PERFECT CURVES, beaten 3l by The Bog Bank at Bellewstown, now enjoys a considerable turnaround in the weights and with a talented claimer booked is taken to reverse that form. Ayr second Haalim, along with Kinda Tiny and Cannes Do are others to consider. Queen Mab could go well at a price. [Alan Hewison]
