Aidan McGarry Racecourse Manager
On behalf of the board and team at Naas Racecourse, we are delighted to welcome you today to our first jumps fixture of the new season. The Return Of The Jumps is always an exciting time of year and with a card featuring the Barberstown Castle Chase (Grade 3) and the Brown Lad Handicap Hurdle (Listed), we look set for a high-class day of jumps racing to kick start the season.
Eddie Moran Owner Liaison
As ever, the support from our sponsors is always appreciated and we are thrilled to welcome Amanda Torrens and the team from Barberstown Castle as the feature sponsor of the day. Amanda is a huge supporter of racing in Ireland and particularly Co Kildare via her ‘hidden gem’ of a hotel just 20 minutes down the road in Straffan. A beautiful place with delicious food and fantastic service, make sure to get down there if you haven’t already.
Overlander Horseboxes are back sponsoring the novice chase today and you will see one of their boxes parked in the enclosure. The perfect combination of style and safety, the latter being incredibly important when transporting thoroughbreds across the country and the world. As a local company it is brilliant to have them, and the national hunt horses, back ‘on board’!
Today’s sponsors are all based in Co Kildare, we also have local support from David Mongey’s Mongey Communications, whose work you will know well by the great big screens around the course and at other big sporting events throughout Europe, along with Oliver McKiernan’s Cavan Developments in their support of St Mary’s GAA who are holding their fundraiser in the Panoramic Restaurant today. Oliver is a family businessman building many houses in the area, he is also a trainer and his horses have a habit of running very well in his sponsored races, so keep an eye on his runners today.
The Irish European Breeders’ Fund continues to provide a vital boost to prizemoney all year round for owners across both codes and we have two strong races on the card for them today. Nessa Joyce is brilliant to work with and we are delighted to welcome her back for the National Hunt season here at Naas.
A big thank you to the owners, trainers, and stable staff of today’s runners, we wish everyone the best, both on and off the track. This weekend, Naas Racecourse collected the Racecourse of the Year Award at the Association of Irish Racehorse Owners Awards for the third year in a row. This is a huge honour for Naas Racecourse, as owners across the country vote for the winner. We thank everyone who voted for us, as well as those who work to make the owner and customer experience here at Naas so special.
Today’s race meeting is our penultimate of the year and we are already looking forward to our Christmas Party Race Day on December 16th. There are many hospitality options available to kick-start the festive season, so be sure to visit www.naasracecourse.com for all ticket options, as well as to view our Christmas gifts, ranging from gift vouchers to racecourse memberships.
Aidan McGarry Manager amcgarry@naasracecourse.com
The Chairman, Directors and Management of Naas Racecourse would like to thank today’s sponsors:
Monday 16th December 2024
At every meeting there are specially qualified equine veterinary surgeons on duty to look after the well-being of all the horses racing. There is a vet in attendance at the start of each race who follows the horses throughout the race and is quickly on hand if a casualty occurs. It is normal procedure to erect screens around any horse receiving veterinary treatment. This allows the veterinary surgeon some privacy to fully assess the horses’ injuries and racegoers should not assume the worst if screens are erected around an injured horse. The Blue Cross ambulance is always present to transport the horse back to the stable yard for further treatment if necessary. A secondary veterinary surgeon is in attendance in the stable yard to assess and treat any horse requiring such attention post race. The horses’ welfare is always our priority.
The Association of Irish Racecourse Veterinary Surgeons (AIRCVS)
Please note that it is a condition of admission to the racecourse that Naas Race Company Plc. or in the possession of, any person or persons using the racecourse lands and premises owned by Naas Racecourse
In the event of today’s meeting being abandoned before the start of the 2nd Race customers will be issued with a voucher which will gain them free admission to any one of the next three meetings. Should there will be no cash

It is a condition of entry to Naas Racecourse that patrons accept that Naas Racecourse or its agents, press or other photographers may capture photographic or moving images of Naas Racecourse’s patrons and that such patrons are aware than any such images may be utilised by Naas Racecourse, its parent or associated companies, together with its sponsors, for promotional and other purposes.
Dear All,
As Chairman I would like to welcome you all here today to our annual Corporate Race Day. The day is always an extremely enjoyable day providing an ideal opportunity for our members and friends to socialise and mingle in the comforting surroundings of Naas Racecourse.
I am particularly looking forward to the second race of the day, Cavan Developments Home Builders Supporting St Marys GAA Maiden Hurdle. A special thanks to Oliver Mc Kiernan and family who are great friends and have been loyal supporters of St Marys for many years. Oliver and Carmel, your ongoing support is very much appreciated and valued.
St Mary’s GAA Club is one of the oldest GAA clubs in Dublin, founded in 1906, we promote Gaelic Football in the areas of Saggart, Rathcoole, Citywest and Brittas. These areas have had massive surges in population recently which has been mirrored by our increase in new juvenile members. However, our increasing membership numbers place a demand on already stretched resources which means fundraising days like today are vital to the Club.
I want to express our sincere thanks to our Members and friends who supported today’s event, without your generosity we could not operate. A special word of thanks to the organising Committee for arranging every aspect of this event … Thanks Bren, Dave and Sharon, not an easy task and again you went over and above to make sure it would be a success, much appreciated.
Lastly Thanks to Niamh & Milly and Naas Racecourse for their warm welcome and hospitality, always a superb service here. I hope you all have a fantastic day and look forward to chatting to you all throughout the day.
Conor Lehane Chairman

Small enough field but ultra competitive and a case can be made for all of them. Top-weight Happy Jacky should be a leadiung contender. Last year’s runner-up Gaoth Chuil had a nice warm-up effort at the Curragh last month, while Win Some Lose Some is progressive and looks the first choice of the McManus duo. Preference is for bottom-weight MISSUS BEETON, a progressive mare that went desperately close at Punchestown last month. Calum Hogan’s 7lb claim might just be the difference. [Justin O’Hanlon]

Ho My Lord is respected on his first run for Padraig Roche but this looks a decent opprtunity for Grade 1-winning novice hurdler FARREN GLORY after a good first effort at Wexford against top novice Inthepocket. [Justin O’Hanlon] Source: Racing Post
