On behalf of the O’Gorman family, we would like to welcome everyone to Ballybrit for the Joe O’Gorman Memorial Flat Race
Our world was completely shattered on Easter Sunday this year when our beloved Dad died suddenly However, we have been hugely comforted by the outpouring of love and affection shown towards him. He was a remarkable man with a kind word for everyone and who took great delight in seeing others do well.
As a family, we wanted to pay tribute to him in some small way as Dad would not like a big fuss. He was never fond of the limelight. Councillor Shane Forde came up with the idea of sponsoring a race at his beloved racecourse here in Ballybrit. With the very kind assistance of Michael Moloney and his brilliant staff (particular thanks to Olivia Lynch Ward and Gerry Broderick), sponsoring a race today has become possible
Dad hardly missed a day’s racing in Ballybrit since he moved to Ballybrit over 50 years ago We went with Dad and Mam to the races practically every day of the summer festival Indeed, you were looked at strangely in our house if, for some reason, you did not want to go! Dad is buried over the wall from the racecourse in the Lisheen cemetery which is a great source of comfort to us as a family.
We are being joined by our extended family and friends in the Champagne Bar today and hope everyone has an enjoyable day.
Dad, we hope you enjoy your race as you hear the horses galloping past your resting place in the Lisheen and, more importantly you enjoy looking down on it from the great betting

A very interesting four-year-old contest to finish off. Colcannon is one of the standard setters after finishing second at Punchestown and having been so unludkily disqualified after a very impressive success at the same venue in February. Heads Up should improve for a good run in a Listowel winners contest, while O’ Bon Pardon caught the eye in the Goffs Defender Bumper. However, it is almost a fool’s errand to oppose anything from Eric McNamara’s yard at the moment, and GAOITHE GLORY(nap) can make up for an unlucky Listowel defeat here.
