Horoscopes

By Ashley

Aries (Ryland Lynch): Events in your life should become easier to control. You should keep your focus on your family and attempt to build an emotionally comfortable and secure environment for this part of your life. Taurus (Sabrina Carpenter): This moment in your life may become significant with critical moments that test the relationships that you have with others. What’s of value will survive and will be strengthened. What isn’t will fall apart. Fight for someone or something that you care deeply about. Gemini (Cameron Boyce): You will have a lot of energy and cheerfulness during this time. Together, with solid optimism and confidence in your abilities, you will be able to make a change that was greatly desired. You should also be on the lookout for any healthy issues, because danger could come your way any second. Cancer (Raini Rodriguez): Your work environment is much calmer now than in previous months. You won’t have to stress about work and can focus on having fun. Do not be quick to make plans or decisions without much thought. Leo (Rydel Lynch): There may be tensions in your life that may need your help to resolve. Though you might experience disappointment during this time, do not become frustrated as this could lead to worse situations.

Virgo (Stormie Lynch): At this time in your life, life is giving you extra power and could cause success in relationships. Now is a favorable term for planning for the future. You will have major success this month.

Libra (Maddie Ziegler): Though there have been many complications during the past month, expect events to resolve themselves. Spend your time working on things that you need to get done so you may focus on other things in the future.

Scorpio (Riker Lynch): With new experiences, you must learn a lot. If something new is coming up in your life, learn as much as you can about it now so you don’t get flustered when it happens. This time could be very stressful for you so remember to push through.

Sagittarius (Laura Marano): Though this year has not been easy so far, keep being strong and optimistic and you will be fine. Be open to learning new things about yourself and others. Try to surround yourself with positive people and take good care of yourself. Capricorn (Ross Lynch): Both your physical and mental horizons will widen as you increase involvement with others. Take this time to discover things that you feel the need to. Be certain to stay away from possible dishonest people that could change your perspectives.

Aquarius (Allison Holker): It is important to fit into a group with which you have common long-term goals and interests. Try not to mix different friend groups as this could lead to toxic incidents. This is a pretty active and favorable year, but there won’t be and big surprises for you any time soon.

Pisces (Alexa Dowd): Your relationships will blossom at this time. You will meet a lot of people that could bring great things for you. Achieving your goals is affected by the way you prepare. Make sure to take all of the necessary preparations to ensure that you reach a desired goal.

Laura Marano. A name everyone now knows and loves because of her success in the entertainment industry. Laura was born on November 25, 1995 to Ellen and Damiano Marano. When she was born her parents didn't know that she was going to be one of the most talented people to come out of the entertainment industry. She started acting a very young age. Her mom, Ellen, was a former actress herself and Laura looked to her mom as a role model for her acting career. When Laura saw her mom participating in group theater performances, she wanted to follow in her footsteps. Her first acting experience was with her older sister Vanessa in the TV show "Without a Trace." The girls stayed together on the show for 3 years until it was cancelled in 2006, but that didn't stop Laura from acting. She continued her acting career for another 10 years until the hit Disney Channel show "Austin and Ally" was let go from

You can’t deny that R5’s music has changed a lot over the years, but just how much have they changed? In this feature, take a journey through time as each album brings in a new twist to the complex but fascinating musical style completely unique to R5.

Ready Set Rock Era (2009-11)

In the early days of R5, the band’s music had heavy influences from punk-pop bands such as Fall Out Boy, displayed in songs such as “Never”, “Ready Set Rock”, and “Look At Us Now”. These songs were recorded before Ross grew into his voice. As time wore on, more songs started to show signs of being more pop and less punk (but all rock), such as in “Can’t Get Enough Of You” or R5’s rock version of Justin Bieber’s “Love Me”. By the time R5 released “Say You’ll Stay”, most of the band’s punk influences had disappeared, and the band was starting to develop its own unique style.

After Ross was signed on Austin & Ally, R5’s sound adapted to better suit the Disney image. Songs such as “Christmas Is Coming”, “What Do I Have To Do”, and “Crazy 4 U” employ strong bubblegum pop elements and more melodic hooks. On the DL, however, R5 continued to honor the rock and punk-based styles it had started from. These roots are best displayed through unofficial songs such as “DNA” or “Keep Away From This Girl”, which were performed during live shows. They also continued to cover songs such as the controversial “Pour Some Sugar On Me”.

Loud Era (2012)

After R5’s talent was recognized, they were signed to Hollywood Records, where they continued to produce the bubblegummy, feel-good pop music that drew influences from other artists from Disney and Hollywood Records. But instead of settling for following trends, R5 created powerful songs backed by strong instrumentation. Each song on the Loud EP had its own influence, whether it was the retro-styled “I Want U Bad” or the anthemic “Loud”. Each song had infectious melodies and killer lyrics. In short: while the punk had sizzled out of R5’s music, it was replaced by smoother harmonies, a cleaner sound, and heavier influences from popular artists.

Louder Era (2013)

R5’s first full-length album really expanded on the band’s newly-developed sound. Songs like “Ain’t No Way We’re Goin’ Home” were even more powerful than “Loud”, “Pass Me By” builds off the cheerfulness of “Here Comes Forever”, and “Forget About You” borrowed many stylistic elements from “I Want U Bad”. This album perfectly embodies the spirit of pop-rock, the genre that really lifted R5 into fame.

However, there are some important elements that set this album apart from Loud: there was more experimentation, and as a result, there was greater diversity between songs and a heck of a lot of ornamentation. Guitar solos (like those of “Wishin I Was 23” and “Ain’t No Way We’re Goin Home”) were more frequent, influences from ballads could be found in “One Last Dance”, and techniques were played with, like the unorthodox vocal performance of the bridge in “Forget About You”.

Nothing shows the development of R5’s music up to this point better than the studio versions of two previously unpublished songs: “Wishin I Was 23” and “Cali Girls”. Both songs had usually been performed with strong rock elements, but the new versions were more pop and electronic.

Heart Made Up On You Era (2014)

When R5 dropped their next big EP, it brought with them a completely new sound. Their music was less rock than ever and instead drew heavily from popular genres. “Heart Made Up On You” is undeniably inspired by EDM music, “Stay With Me” really brings out the power pop and anthemic styles, “Easy Love” is draws from decade music, and “Things Are Looking Up” resembles upbeat popular songs like “Top Of The World” by Imagine Dragons or “Best Day Of My Life” by American Authors. This EP is the most eclectic collection of songs R5 has put out to date.

Sometime Last Night Era (2015-now)

R5’s most recent album is unlike any of their albums yet. Springboarding from the success and styles of Heart Made Up On You but still adopting a fresh new sound, this album is innovative and new. Many of R5’s signature pop-rock elements and storytelling techniques are still present, but the lyrics are more edgy and artistic, and the inspiration for the instrumentation combines the classic style of oldies (both rock and pop) with the modern twist found in EDM music. The vocals are as powerful as ever (if not even more so), and this album is filled with more passion than any of its predecessors. The melodies are less infectious than downright consuming, and each song has its own original flavor that is so deliciously R5.

Even though Austin and Ally has been over for quite some time, the cast now has time to do many other great opportunities for their careers!

ROSS

Once Austin and Ally filming was over last year, Ross and the whole family went on tour with R5 on their Sometime Last Night tour that lasted for 9 months. In January, Ross announced that he would be the voice of Piers in a new animated movie, Snowtime. After returning from tour, he took some time off with the rest of the band, and relaxed before his life got crazy again. During this whole time, Ross became even closer to his girlfriend, Courtney Eaton, a model from Australia. Ross, along with Courtney and Olivia Holt, announced that they would be filming for a movie called Status Update. This movie follows a teenager (played by Ross) who, after being uprooted by his parents’ separation and forced to move, stumbles upon a magical app that causes his social media updates to come true. Production is set to begin in June in Vancouver.

LAURA

After Austin and Ally ended, Laura has had one thing on her mind: music. With her new record deal with Big Machine Records (the same label as Taylor Swift), she has been working on her music career and finally, in March, released her first single, Boombox. In the music video for the song, she starred with Ken Jeong to create a unique video. Later this year, Laura will release her first album. Laura has also attended many music awards shows such as the Billboard Music Awards and the MTV Video Music Awards.

RAINI

Raini has taken a nice break from acting since Austin and Ally ended. She has spent a lot of time visiting with her family in Bryan, Texas. While back home, she has been supporting many of the Houston sports teams by attending the Astros baseball games and Rockets basketball games. Raini also has visited New York City and saw many Broadway shows.

CALUM

After the ending of Austin and Ally, Calum has been helping out with the Climate Reality Project. This project focuses on helping to bring the world together to stop climate change and create a healthy and prosperous future powered by clean energy. Throughout the past year and a half that Austin and Ally hasn’t been filming, Calum has been supporting his cast mates in their new ventures. He has gone to a few R5 concerts and helped celebrate the launch of Laura’s song, Boombox. He has also gone back home to Canada to visit his family.

Jessie Game Reviews! By: Jennifer

Since Ross from R5 (duh!) was on Austin and Ally, and A&A has done a collaboration episode with Jessie, I thought I’d give you some Jessie Game Reviews from the official Disney Channel Website! __________________________________________________________

Rating System: 5 stars means "It was the best game ever!" 4 stars means "It was a good game." 3 stars means "It was an okay game." 2 stars means "I didn't like the game." 1 star means "It was the most horrible game ever!"

Jessie: Smarte Couture

The game itself can get pretty challenging, along the way. The goal of the game is to create a certain amount of outfits for Jessie for each level, without filling the entire game board. Each level starts out with a few clothing items already on the board. Each outfit you create earns you score points, and the score earns you credit points. The credit points are used to buy items in the game store. For the whole game you get 3 times to use 2 different power ups. The powerups are, switch or donate. Each level gets harder and harder because spaces become blocked. The game is fun, but I wish they featured more characters, like Luke, Emma, Zuri or Ravi, instead of just Jessie.

4 Stars

The Ross Wrangle

This game is pretty basic. The goal of the game is to score points by finding the Ross kids in less than 1 minute. So, all you really have to do, is as soon as a picture of the kids (either Emma, Luke, Ravi, or Zuri) pops up behind a piece of furniture, click on them. But you have to be careful and watch out for the other things/people that pop up, like Bertram, Tony, or Mrs. Kipling. For each Ross kid you click on, you gain one point, and for all the wrong things you click on, you lose one point. The game can get a bit fast when everyone starts popping up everywhere very quickly, but there is currently only 1 level, and it's not really an exciting game, to be honest.

dawnfarer - Repeating Days

top fan covers

“Repeating Days” was always a sweet, calming song, but Dawn’s interpretation of the piece brings a new layer of authenticity and simplicity that makes you feel good (pun intended) inside. This performance features soft and smooth vocals accompanied by an evertheclassic acoustic guitar. To further complement the tone, the video is in grayscale, reminiscent to R5’s very own “One Last Dance”. The overall effect? A pleasing performance achieved with sweet simplicity. There are some small imperfections: a squeak of the guitar, or a barelyoffkey note, and the prechorus could have used a little more work to make it flow smoother, but all of these can be ignored in the grand scheme of things. Her interpretation of the song is touching, and her vocal talent suits the piece perfectly. The most striking part of the piece is how unarguably real it feels. Whether it’s the fact that she figured out the chords by ear, the faint white noise in the background, or the way her voice sounds almost like a lullaby, this is definitely the type of video that makes you want to turn everything else off so you can simply melt into the music and enjoy.

Caitlin McCormick - Let's Not Be Alone Tonight Caitlin McCormick’s cover of Let’s Not Be Alone Together is spunky, fun, and a little bold. The video features four different screens, each with her performing a different instrument (she also plays instruments that don’t appear in the video, like the drums). Despite the obvious challenges with this technique, Caitlin pulls it off anyway. Furthermore, the different tint of each screen mimics the style of the original music video without ripping it off. Video editing aside, Caitlin manages to set aside from the crowd musically. While most other singers would switch to a falsetto voice for the high notes (or even perform the entire song in falsetto), Caitlin isn’t afraid to switch pitch at a moment’s notice, even at the risk of coming off a little flat. Her guitarplaying is on point, her harmonies melt together perfectly, her voice is clear and powerful, and the completed sound is satisfying. Her video has earned her positive reception; One commenter, Jackie, said, “You are very talented (it runs in the family)!! I loved all the guitar parts you played and your crisp, clear vocal. Great job!” Other comments describe the performance as awesome, brilliant, and amazing. Overall, the video is very entertaining, strong, and well worth the watch.

Do's and Dont's at an R5 Meet and Greet By: Jennifer

I have personally have never been to an R5 M&G, but I have heard of good and bad things that have happened, at them and with these few tips and tricks you're sure to have the best R5 M&G experience! Do! Be yourself! How ever much you might want to try and be perfect for when, you meet them, its okay to be yourself. I've heard that the band is super sweet and they definitely will not care what you look like, or what your're wearing. Just go to the M&G and Don't! have a good time, being yourself. I know that you may not be able to control your emotions when you meet your favorite band, but I would suggest trying not to cry. I have heard that if you start bawling on the spot, to the point where you can't even talk, the security guards, may have to escort you out, and then you "They're amazing to their fans. They give back so much. I love all the charity work that they wouldn't get to meet R5, and your do. They're very inspiring people." - Black money would be wasted. haired fan with brown hat. |

Do! Take risks! Now by that I don't mean do something totally crazy, or something that may get you in trouble. What I mean is, if you want a photo where you're hugging, Riker, ask him, go for it! Or if you want one standing in between Rydellington, ask them, and they will most likely always say yes! Or if you want a photo totally different than what I said, just ask them and go for it!

"They're super like family oriented. It's so cool to see like their bond and, there's just so much fun." Brown haired fan with black Pink Floyd shirt on.

"An R5 Live Show, is an experience. You don't really understand them until you see them live." - Anonymous fan.

Don't! Don't ask for a selfie with them. How ever much you want a selfie with them on your phone or other device, don't ask them for one. Being as nice as they are they'd probably say yes if you asked, but the photographers and security guards probably, wouldn't be very pleased. You're already getting multilpe professional photos done, so just stick with those for now.

Do!

"They're, they love their music, and they love what their doing, and it's so refreshing to see artists do that now a days." - Anonymous fan.

Bring essentials in line! This may not have to do with the actual meet and greet part, but still. Remember to bring water or snacks while you are waiting in line for the M&G. Chances are you could be waiting in line for a few hours or more, and you will get thirsty and hungry. Now this may not work depending if the venue you are going to allows food or drinks, but try bringing a water bottle to stay hydrated.

"They just rock out, you know. They can be, they can just go loose, and go crazy, and they can do whatever they want. And so I'm just like, that's what music's about." - Black haired fan with black and white striped shirt on.

Don't! Don't try to tell them your social media account usernames, or try to show them your social media accounts on your phone. It's going to feel very rushed if you try to do that, and again the security guards won't be very pleased. And chances are that after the big night they won't even remember what your username is. So even though you want them to follow you so bad, just don't try to tell/show them your social media accounts. It's safer that way.

Do! Have fun! I know that this is basically a no brainer, but it's nice to be reminded to have fun! It can be a very stressful night having to wait in line, and stand for most of the concert, but just remember that you're meeting your favorite band, and all should be good.

"R5 really knows how to put on a great show. I love going to their concerts, the vibe is just really, really awesome" Anonymous fan.

"Their music just like brings people together, and you can like meet people, like make friends at concerts that you wouldn't really have been friends with otherwise." Anonymous fan.
