THE OFFICIAL FAREWELL From

the

R5

Magazine

Family Team

Hello everyone. Jennifer here. As you can infer from the title of this article, we are indeed discontinuing the magazine. We have come to this decision through much thought and conversation. The staff is getting older and have more responsibilities than in previous years, and the R5 members have new things happening for each of them, so re-branding would take a large effort, that we just don't have time for. We want to thank each and every one of our readers, our staff members, and everyone who has made this magazine possible! You all are amazing! We hope that you enjoy this last magazine and all the articles we worked hard on!

Now, here's to a few words from our Editor-InChief, Ashley, who has contributed so much to this magazine! R5 Family Mag has been a part of my life for five years and has been with me from when I was going into my sophomore year of high school, to now that I’m going into my junior year of college. I’m so happy to have had the wonderful opportunity to meet so many members of the R5 Family and to get to know them as we worked on this mag for this many years. Before joining the mag, I became a fan of R5 in 2013 when I was just in middle school, but hadn’t met any other fans of them. It was exciting to get to work with people that were all fans of the band, and were from different parts of the country, and some even from other countries! It has been an amazing journey watching the band while Ross was on Austin & Ally, to the band really taking off during their Sometime Last Night tour, then with their sound really changing with New Addictions, and finally with the transition into The Driver Era. One thing I love about them is that with each new album came a unique sound. I hope that they continue this in the future. It has also been great witnessing all of the members doing solo projects that they are passionate about because it highlights the fact that they are all different people. But when they come together, they make something great. After seeing them 3 times as R5, and even getting to meet them in 2015, I’m excited for the chance to see them as The Driver Era sometime soon!

I will miss being a part of the mag. I would like to thank everyone on the staff that continuously helped put it together. This isn’t something a single person could do. Finally, I would also like to thank everyone who stayed with us and kept reading the mag. Without you, there would have been no point in continuing the mag! Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to share our passion for this group of people with the rest of the R5 Family! -Ashley

With that, we truly do want to thank you guys for everything. We hope that you understand our decision and that you loved reading the magazine while it was actively being published. I'm so thankful for the 4 years I spent working on the magazine, and for everything that R5 did for me, and my fellow staff members. Thanks again! - Jennifer :)

Interview With Former Staff Member Lennon! By Jennifer J: Hi Lennon! I'm so glad that you agreed to be interviewed for the last magazine, and we're glad to have you back on for this article. This being the last magazine sure is mind-boggling to think about. Anyways, I'll start off with this first question. What is the most memorable moment/article you remember from your time working on the magazine? L: I used to write a lot of the recipe columns that you would see and a lot of random quizzes, but I think my favorite piece I ever wrote was neither of them. Fashion has always been one of my deep loves and in the October 2016 magazine I did a little dress like R5 Halloween edition. It was really fun challenging myself to go out and find pieces of clothing that would match what they wore. I ended up actually using Rydel’s breakfast club outfit that year for myself!

J: How has working on the magazine impacted your life during the years you were part of the staff? L: In the roughly 3 years I was apart of the magazine I learned so many skills for editing pages and good websites to use. I had started using just Google Word and adding pictures in at the start and let me tell you it wasn’t pretty. Then I found this website called Canva that I later would use even for my classes in high school which caused a lot of my teachers to even ask how I got such amazing PowerPoint slides completed!

J: How did you come to find the magazine and how long have you been a fan of R5? L: I was an avid Twitter user for a while and I happened to just find a tweet of someone mentioning how she wanted to start a fan magazine for R5 and how she was looking for people to help. I jumped right on board and was so thrilled to be helping out. I’ve been a fan since 2012, so it’s been 8 years, wow!

J: What's the biggest thing you think you've learned while being a part of the magazine staff, and what was the biggest challenge you had to overcome? L: The biggest thing I learned was don’t worry about perfection, it’s all about having fun. There were so many times I would stress over deadlines or a text box being perfectly straight, but in the end it was just about enjoying myself and putting out content that readers would enjoy. J: What was your favorite part about working on the magazine? L: The relationships! I met so many wonderful people working on the magazine and I still talk to some of them today. J: Thank you Lennon for letting me interview you, and the staff sure hopes that you've been doing well since you resigned. Thank you to our readers as well for everything you did to make Lennon feel special during her time as a staff member!

Riker and Savannah's Honeymoon Trip By Jennifer

After Riker and Vanni's memorable wedding in Montage Deer Valley, Utah, they headed off on their exciting honeymoon vacation! They first stopped in Doha, Qatar and visited the desert, before heading to the Maldives Islands in the Indian Ocean. Newlyweds Riker and Savannah Lynch in the desert of Qatar.

Two islands that Riker and Vanni traveled to and stayed at were Faarufushi and Dhigali. Both of them shared tons of photos to social media showcasing their beautiful honeymoon destinations, and it indeed looks like they had a wonderful time together. They spent their days swimming, eating romantic meals, and exploring. Riker and Savannah sharing a kiss in the waters of Photo credits to @savannahlynch on Instagram.

Rydel is Engaged?! By Jennifer

Yes, you read that right! Rydel is indeed engaged to her now fiance, Capron Funk. In a YouTube video that Rydel posted on her channel, he proposed to her during a family baseball game in front of their family and friends. Of course Rydel said yes, and the family was ecstatic as the secret was now out.

How it all went down was when Capron "ran" to home base, he got down on one knee with the ring while Rydel wasn't looking. When she turned towards him, she was totally shocked! Tons of people were recording, so there are plenty of different angles and videos to watch that cover the event! The proposal happened on February 9th, 2020, and shortly after, the couple made a joint YouTube channel to share their adventures! This news couldn't be more exciting, and I give all of my best wishes to future Mr. and Mrs. Funk!

Current Events By Jennifer

On behalf of the R5 Family Magazine staff, we want to let you know that we're all in this together. No matter how tough things get, you can always reach out to someone. Messages like these are needed now more than ever. Our world has changed drastically over these past months, and it's definitely been a big adjustment to get used to. The Coronavirus or COVID-19 global pandemic has changed many things for better and worse. Suddenly, we couldn't meet with friends and family, and we had to stay home, stay six feet apart from others, wear a face mask in public, and many places and events were closed and cancelled. Last year, no one could have thought this would happen. On top of all the uncertainty that has come with the virus, racial issues have been prominent in the United States. Many people across the country are protesting against these issues almost every day. No matter what your views are on these subjects, I think we all can agree that it's very important for the population to come together and be nice to each other. Treat others the way that you'd want to be treated. Despite these tough times, many people and businesses have been very generous and loving towards each other, and even though it's with face masks and from a distance, people seem to be illustrating a lot of kindness towards other families and individuals. To conclude, remember to stay positive and be thankful for the good in your life!
