Riker's Engaged!!

By Leanne

It’s not a rumor, Riker’s engaged! On August 25th, Riker popped the big question to his lovely girlfriend, now fiancé, Savannah (Vanni). The two had been dating for awhile and are eager to finally move to the next stage.

A fairytale engagement. One can only dream of being proposed to as Savannah was. While on a beautiful beach, Riker lead Vanni through a trail flowers and candles to a giant heart formed from sea shells. This is where Riker got on one knee to ask his girlfriend the big question. Both the Latimers and the Lynchs jumped in to help Riker make the day perfect for Vanni.

Sharing the news. The next day Savannah went to social media to share the big news. She wrote: “I have a fiance!! Yesterday, Riker and I got engaged!!” “I’m so overwhelmed with all the love I’ve been showered with. My heart is so full! Every second it keeps sinking in a little more. I’m going to be misty eyed all week! I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you, Riker Lynch. You make me so happy and I’m excited for the next chapter in our lives together!” Riker also shared the experience on social media.

Celebrating! The two quickly got started on planning the perfect engagement party. They shared a little bit of it with fans on social media. There were hoards of family pictures taken, multiple bottles of champagne popped, and lots of loved shared between the happy couple.

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina By Leanne S On Friday, October 26th, Netflix premiered a show titled Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. This show is based off a popular comic book series with the same title, published by Archie Comics, and features a very familiar face for the R5 Family! Ross plays Sabrina’s very mortal boyfriend, who she has to choose to stay with or give up to follow her family of witches. Sabrina’s dilemma all arises around her sweet 16. A few things that fans would like to see in this series include Sabrina's furry friend (Salem Saberhagen), Sabrina’s classmates and teachers from Sabrina, The Teenage Witch (ABC), and some evil acts from Sabrina. I think I would personally fall in love with the Salem character, and would find the differences of how she handles her evil classmates and her evil abilities quite interesting. Forbes Magazine recently reviewed the start of the series and dubbed it “One of the best supernatural dramas of the year.” The magazine states the the show is “a perfect streaming series for the October season. It gets the horror. It gets the supernatural. It gets the precise lack of subtlety needed to pull of such a series. It gets is all.”

Real or Rumor!!? By Jennifer

R e a l

Riker and Vanni are Engaged! On August 31st, 2018, Riker posted on his Instagram, photos revealing that he had proposed to his girlfriend Savannah Latimer. Rydel even helped set the whole thing up! Rikvannah is definitely goals, and I'm extremely happy for them! They even had an engagement party with extended family. Stormie (the Lynch's mom) posted photos of the family by the pool with big blue and gold letter balloons that spelled out Riker & Vanni.

R5 Is Back Together?!

R u m o r ?

If you didn't know, you're getting the news now; R5 is no longer R5. They now go by the name of The Driver Era. It has been marketed that this "new project" they're working on, only consists of Ross and Rocky, although recently there's been a few clips that prove otherwise. If you search 'the driver era live' on YouTube, you'll currently find a video titled "Can't Take My Eyes Off You -The Driver Era (Live at MIAFestival 2018) (Letra en Español)" uploaded by Alejandra González. The video shows the whole band performing together, like they normally would, as The Driver Era at the Made In America festival of 2018. This is confusing since it's pretty clear through interviews, their website, and social media that The Driver Era only consists of Ross and Rocky. I'm not sure if they're (Ross and Rocky) just having the rest of R5 be The Driver Era's band, or if this was just a one-time thing or not. In a recent YouTube video on her self-titled channel called "Spilling ALL the tea | Rydel Lynch", Rydel cleared up a few things as well. She said to the fans "Don't think of it as R5 'broke up'...think of it more as a hiatus." It sounds like she's saying that the whole band is The Driver Era, which implies that they never really broke up in the first place, but that maybe Ross and Rocky are just the main guys for the "new project". Due to these facts, I'm going to say that this is a rumor. It's still not entirely clear as to how this "new project" is really working, as there has been too little information put out about it to provide a clear consensus about R5 breaking up or being back together. Still shot from video by Alejandra González mentioned above. All credit goes to video owner.

Rydellington Broke Up!?

R e a l

As sad as it is, the Rydellington couple of Rydel Lynch and Ellington Ratliff is no longer. Some fans have been speculating about it for a bit, and Rydel officially announced the breakup also in her 'Spilling Tea' YouTube video. She says "Yes, Rydellington is over, I'm sorry. I know that most of you probably already figured it out. Here is your confirmation. It is not still a thing." She also explains that she and Ellington remain great friends and that they broke up because they both wanted different things. She says that there really wasn't anything wrong with their relationship, but it was time to end that almost 5-year chapter of her life. She also said that she didn't want to get into super intense detail about the breakup because some reasons are personal, and that's completely understandable. She explains the whole thing with a smile on her face, and she seems excited about seeing what the next chapter of life brings her. Are you sad about the Rydellington break-up? Do you wish they were still a couple, or are you excited about this new journey they're going on? Tweet us @r5familymag with your thoughts!

Riker Returns to Dancing With The Stars! By Jennifer

Riker Lynch returned to the show that he previously competed on, called Dancing with the Stars, on Monday, October 15th for trio night. Riker competed on Season 20 of the ABC show and he placed runner-up with his professional partner, Allison Holker. Photo from the official DWTS Instagram @dancingabc.

He's returned for trio night on the current season - Season 27, and he was paired with competitors Milo Manheim (star from Disney Channel's Zombies) and pro Witney Carson (American professional dancer). The whole point of trio night is to test each couples' ability to still create a dance that flows together and works with three people. These three did not fail to accomplish that at all. They were given a samba and it had plenty of high energy, twists and turns, tricks and hip action! The judges definitely loved the routine. They got a 10 from judge Carrie Ann Inaba, a 9 from judge Len Goodman, and a 10 from judge Bruno Tonioli, giving them an overall score of 29 out of 30. Needless to say, they were not disappointed with their score.

Riker, Rydel, and Vanni were also spotted in the crowd the following week of competition for Disney Night, where couples danced to hits from movies such as "The Little Mermaid" and "Pocahontas", among others.

Rydellynch.com Review By: Geca This has been one busy month for Rydel.com, surprising us all with multiple new arrivals. Some personal favorites were the “field of dreams”, “cranberry crush” and “the SASS is real”. Every Rydel addition is fun and different, ranging from a glittery “little pony purse” to the “RED hot jacket.” Not only does Rydel come up with the coolest and most brilliant names for each of her new items, but she never fails to include a little bit of everything. If your style is tomboy, sweetheart, or rocker girl, you’ll be sure to find something you’ll love. Let’s talk about the “serena skirt” for a second. Simple and practical, but also gorgeous. With eight buttons in total trailing down the front, this caramel colored skirt will go with practically anything.

Another unique piece that arrived recently was the “on the prairie” dress. The soft blue dress looked stunning on Rydel, bringing back a whole lot of Little House on the Prairie feels with it. And to top it all off, the ever “dapper choker.” A simple black velvet ribbon with a simple black velvet bow, a small pearl tangling from a tiny, short gold chain. Delicate, dainty, and elegant.

Host a costume contest. If your guests are also R5 fans, host an R5 themed costume contest! Your guests can use the ideas in this magazine or come up with their own. They could dress up as one of the members of the band or come up with something clever. Consider having a few different categories so more than one person can win. It will be fun to see what your friends come up with!!

Give out prizes that are to DIE for. Play lots of games with your guests and give out great prizes. Consider having a grand prize winner with 2 or 3 runner ups. The runner ups would win something smaller like a candy bar while the grand prize winner would win something bigger like cash or maybe even an R5 CD. The list of the most popular candy in years past include Skittles, M&Ms, Snickers, Reese's Cups, and Starbursts.

DIY Fall Decor By Leanne You will need:

Paint the ends of wine corks purple, pink, yellow, green, and blue... try to keep the number of each color as even as possible. Glue the corks in the shape of a pumpkin and add twine and felt leaves for a cute touch. Set the pumpkin on your mantel or use it as a center piece during Thanksgiving dinner.

You will need:

Remove the handle from a plastic pumpkin bucket then spray paint it yellow, green, pink, purple, or blue. Repeat with the remaining four colors. When your pumpkins are dry, you can plant fall flowers to create a cute halloween decoration for your porch.

For Old Times' Sake A fanfic by: Geca I sighed, turning the last page of the worn-out photo album. There he was, his green converse frozen forever in time, one on his skate board, the other waving wildly in the air. I missed that. The way he would smirk at me before turning to perform some amazing stunt on his skateboard only to end up on his face on the ground. We used to be so close, but then he’d gone and become famous, touring the world with his band, R5. My life just kept going, farther and farther down the spiral fate had etched in stone the night my mother never came home. I’d learned to move on, but, like any young adult book, nothing was ever really the same. I studied the picture once more, letting the memories wash over my brain, allowing a few seconds of bittersweet bliss. Then, saying one final goodbye to the memories from what seemed like so long ago, I closed the cover, determined to move on and let go. The door bell rang and, grumbling under my breath, I ran to open it, passing my father who was sound asleep in his favorite armchair “watching” a football game. I chuckled at the sight, turning the doorknob and opening the door, the slight smile still on my lips. It faded away quickly at the face that greeted mine. “Hey.” His hazel brown eyes were slightly duller than the last time I saw him. “Um... hi.” I shook my head slightly, trying to break the daze that had settled on my brain. “Uh…” He scratched his head. “Wanna go for a walk? You know, for old times’ sake?” A slow grin crept over my face. “Sure” I replied. “For old times’ sake.”

High School Advice Are you scared about your future high school adventures? If so, then this article is for you! Scan through these questions that our staff had asked and answered and see if we can help you. Good luck!

What is the most important thing I should know walking in on my first day of school? The most important thing that you should know when you walk into high school for the first time is that it may seem scary, but it will be okay if you go with the flow. You may make mistakes that seem like a big deal at the moment, but you will eventually laugh at it and realize that it wasn’t as bad as you thought (I’ve walked into my fair amount of wrong classrooms and caused a few traffic jams in the halls). Your teachers will be used to confused freshmen and should be a pro at helping you figure out the ins and outs of the school by now.

Any suggestions for making friends in a new school? Making friends in high school won’t be as difficult as you would think. You might still have most of your friends from middle school, and even if you don’t, you probably still know people from years prior. If you want to start fresh with your friend group, my number one suggestion would be to join groups and activities. These don’t have to be school related groups of activities. I’m very active in my church youth group and that’s where I made most of my friends that I have now. Another tip that I have to make new friends is that conversation starters (such as band tees and pictures on your folders and notebooks) work! How cool would it be to make a best friend that also loves R5?! The best way to make friends, though, is to just be nice. Just be a friendly face in your classes and the halls and people will come up to say hello.

How to deal with homework if it all adds up? If you find that homework keeps piling up, time management will be your best friend. Determine the order of due dates and complete the assignments that are due the soonest first. If you need to get help, do so as soon as you can. And if you need more time on assignments, work with your teachers to figure that out. High school homework will not be easy, but you will get through it. When you get home from school (or work, play practice, athletics, etc) start on your homework right away. It will be tempting to watch one episode of R5 TV, but one video will end up turning into more and you won’t start homework before you’re already fighting to stay awake. You’ll thank yourself later.

Any suggestions for studying? What are your personal methods for studying? A few suggestions that I have for studying is to get help if you need it. Your teachers will be more than happy to help you. You can also easily find online sources to help you. There are many great resources out there such as online instructors and extra practice worksheets. Another suggestion that I have for studying is to not save it all for one night, practice different questions on the review (if your teacher doesn’t provide one for you, make your own!) each night then practice them all the night before the test. You also don’t have to wait for the test to be announced to start studying, go over your notes from the day each night. Personally, I get all of my reviews from my teachers (I am lucky enough that all of my teachers offer them). First off, I complete the entire review and check it. I see what I am struggling on and study those problems/questions the most. Then on the night before the test I study the entire review again. I always study notes regardless if there is a test soon or not… it helps a ton in the long run. Ps: If you have never used Quizlet, check it out right now!!

Is school cafeteria food as bad as all the books say? The answer to this question varies greatly on where you live. At my school, cafeteria food is not great by any means, but it is also not terrible. Some lunches, of course, are better than others, but all of it is indeed edible. My school also offers a cheeseburger or pizza in place of the main course everyday, as well as an extra set of options (ice cream, taco salad, different beverages, etc) called á la carte, which is very nice.

What should I look forward to most? (What is your favorite part of high school?) My favorite part of high school is all of the freedom, you get more and more each year. This year, being my senior year, is the most freedom I have ever been allowed by my school. For example, the normal school day for my city is 7 hours, I was able to shave mine down to 5. A lot of schools allow students to leave for lunch, I love that because it gives the students a chance to escape the building for a little bit in the middle of their day. Make sure you take advantage of the freedom that you’re allowed (responsibly) while you can, because it won’t always be there.

College Advice from a College Freshman

By: Leanne & Ashley

L: What is the scariest part of applying to college? A: One of the scariest parts of applying to college would have to be the wait period after you've already applied. I had a wait period of about three months between when I applied to colleges and when I received my last decision (and it ended up being to the school in which I applied to). The whole first half of February was spent refreshing the website where my admissions decision would be and I would do this 10-20 times a day.

L: What are 2 pros and 2 cons of going to a college closer to home? What about further away from home? A: I go to a college that is very close to home (it only takes me an hour to drive there). It's nice to be able to go home if something comes up and go pretty often when it’s not such an agonizing drive. It's also nice being able to drive there for the day if I needed. For example, I'm going to a concert on a Monday night soon close to where I live and that's only because it's such a short distance to drive compared to most other colleges. The benefits of going to college further from home would have to be getting to experience a completely new city, or most of the time state. If you're like me, you've lived in the same place for your entire life and college is a great opportunity to explore somewhere new and exciting. Also, if you don't know anybody that is going to the school, you will be forced to make some friends, which is a good thing. At my school, I came in with three of my best friends from my hometown and while it's nice to have a comfortable group of friends, it's also very good to make new friends when you are living in a new place.

L: What should you bring to college? What should you leave at home? A: Some things that you should bring to college are pictures of your friends and family to hang on the wall, string lights or lamps so you don't have to use the fluorescent lighting, and some of your favorite keepsakes that will remind you of home. You should leave your high school yearbooks, stuffed animals, and excessive amounts of clothes at home. You won't look in your yearbooks more than once and they are very heavy to have in a box on move-in day. Stuffed animals will just crowd your bed and they will only end up on the floor when you are sleeping. The only clothes you will probably wearing, if you are like me, is t-shirts, leggings, and shorts, so you should only bring a few nicer outfits to college.

L: What are the easiest and hardest parts about applying to college? A: I think the easiest parts of applying to college is choosing which colleges to apply to. I had those narrowed down since June after my junior year and I knew that I really liked the three schools that I decided to apply to. The hardest parts of applying to college is just filling out the application and writing the required essays. You want to make sure that your application displays as much as you can about yourself to ensure the college knows everything that you did.

L: How many colleges do you recommend applying to? A: I would recommend applying to a minimum of three schools. I only applied to three and I felt that those were enough options to make a final decision. Originally, I was planning to apply to eight schools, but after realizing I would probably only consider three, I cut the other five out. I would say to apply to no more than ten schools, unless you are looking at Ivy League universities. I applied to Texas A&M University, Texas Christian University, and Sam Houston State University. To me, this showed a lot of variance in the types of schools. While I don't know about a lot of schools outside of the state of Texas, I know that you should apply to schools that are very different in character and difficulty. Texas A&M was a very large public state university that had higher average test scores than Sam Houston State, another large public university in Texas. Texas Christian University was a medium sized private university that had a Christian-affiliation. Originally, I had also planned to apply to small private universities as well, but personally, I did not like the small school size that would be smaller than my high school. Also choose colleges that are a mixture of close and far distances from home. Two of the universities were close to home, while the other was a fourhour drive. Applying to a mixture of college types is key to figuring out what kind of school you want to go to. Eventually, I decided on Texas A&M University because of its large size and its proximity to home.

L: What is the best way to introduce yourself to your roommate? A: When I met my roommate the summer before college, we decided to both drive to the college and meet at a restaurant close to campus, before we move in. I think this was a great idea because we both lived very far apart but were able to come together to meet before we live together. I would suggest getting to know your roommate a little before you meet them in person, just to see if you have any commonalities. If you can’t meet up before you move-in, that's okay! You can FaceTime or Skype each other so you can talk face-to-face before move-in day.

L: What is your #1 piece of advice for going to college (settling in)? A: My #1 piece of advice about going into college is to make as many friends as possible and talk to as many people as possible. On your first day of class, talk to the person next to you in class. The three main questions you can ask everyone in college are "What's your name?" "What's your major?" "Where are you from?" By those questions, you will probably be able to start a conversation with someone, and maybe even make a new friend!

L: What is your #1 piece of advice for applying to college? A: My #1 piece of advice for applying to college is to apply early and set deadlines for yourself. If you need to write a few essays, make deadlines for when you want to get them done by, a day that is way before the application deadline. Start on your application during the summer after your junior year as soon as you can. If you get most of the application done in the summer, you will be able to spend more time enjoying your senior year. But if you do wait on getting the application done, don't forget that it's your last year of high school because you need to enjoy every second of it!
