SUPER SUPER FAST FAST INTERNET INTERNET TRICKS TRICKS As someone who does most of his work on the web, I’ve developed some habits to allow me to work quickly, without distraction, so that I can get my work done easily.

personal style of browsing, and I don’t think you should adopt every tip below. This is what works for me. You probably won’t like it as much.

When I see others browse the web, it sometimes surprises me how far behind they are, and when others see me browse the web they’re surprised at how quick I am.

Second, understand that my philosophy is one of minimalism: I don’t like a lot of bells, whistles or distractions, and I like fast, lightweight programs that aren’t bloated or slow. I also like to work quickly, using the keyboard mostly, so that I can get my work done without friction.

I’m not bragging — I know there are web monkeys faster than me. But I thought I’d share some of my tricks for the masses, in hopes that it’ll be of some use.

First, understand that everyone has their own

So here are my tips — some of these will be old hat for web veterans, but they bear repeating.

Use tabs, not windows.

Many people still open a new window each time they’re going to a new site. Instead, configure your browser to open new tabs instead of windows. Now you can switch between tabs without needing to find where each window went.

Learn keyboard shortcuts. Some common examples (on the PCs): Ctrl+T to open a new tab, Ctrl+W to close a window or tab, and so on.

Each browser and OS have different shortcuts, but you can easily learn them by looking at the shortcuts in the menus of the browser. It just takes a few minutes to learn them, and then you’re golden.

Block Flash.

Adobe’s Flash format is everywhere on the web these days — popular sites like YouTube depend on it for video, and you’ll find it in ads everywhere, and some entire sites are built on Flash. It’s annoying, frankly. Flash is slow, and I prefer to turn it off by default … but have the option to turn it on if I want to watch a YouTube video or something. In some browsers, you might need a plugin or extension to turn off Flash but give yourself the ability to turn on Flash elements with a click.

Turn off most extensions.

If you use a lot of them they can cause the browser to get slow and bloated, and often buggy.

Turn them off, it makes for much faster browsing.

Use a fast, minimal browser. If you’re using Internet Explorer 6.0, please do yourself a favour and switch right now. It’s bloated and slow, insecure, and doesn’t render the web correctly. On the Mac, try Opera or Camino. Both are great and do what I need. On the PC, use Google Chrome, as it’s the fastest I’ve tried.

Set up keyword bookmarks and speed dial.

For all of your common sites, you’ll want to create a bookmark, and then go to the bookmark and enter a keyword for quick access to that bookmark. To do this, go the the Properties of the bookmark and set the keyword.

Don’t have a million tabs open.

This is a common web-surfing mode for a lot of people, but it slows down the browser. I tend to open lots of tabs at times, but when things get too cluttered I bookmark them for later reading (using Pinboard) and then close the tabs, so I have only two or three open at any time.

7age defying beauty tips

1. Stay out of the sun

Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun between 10 am to 3pm, when UV rays are strongest. Apply sunscreen with SPF 30 or above on all exposed skin 20 minutes before going outdoors even if it is an overcast day, as UV rays can penetrate clouds and harm unprotected skin.

2. Don’t smoke!

When you smoke, the chemicals in the cigarette constrict the blood vessels in the delicate tissues of the face – this means less oxygen to your skin, with awful results. Blood vessel constriction lasts at least an hour after a cigarette has been extinguished.

3. Nourish your skin from the inside Hydrate yourself adequately throughout the day. Eat a balanced healthy diet. Take antioxidants and vitamins such as green tea, soy, vitamins A, B, C and E, which are great for your skin.

4. Use an antioxidant and vitamin enriched moisturiser before going to bed

Research has confirmed that our skin’s ability to absorb active ingredients from skin care products is greatest at night. This makes bed time the best time to topical nourish your skin with antioxidants and vitamins.

5. Don’t over exfoliate

Exfoliation is one of the best renewal processes for your skin. It helps to shed the top layer of dead skin cells, unclog pores, makes skin more receptive to moisturizer and improves the look and feel of your skin. However dermatologists’ caution that the over use of exfoliating products can leave the skin dry, red, irritated and more vulnerable to sun damage. You should not use exfoliating products such as AHA products, micro-dermabrasion treatments or facial scrubs more then twice a week.

6. Go natural

It makes little sense to slap chemical products on your skin, when nature knows best. Use natural cosmetics if you can, or natural products that contain essential oils such as Marula, Rosehip or Avocado oil, that act as natural antioxidants – found to have therapeutic benefits for your skin and to aid in the promotion healthier skin. Many items found in the fridge can also help: cucumber for rosacea, yogurt for smoother skin texture (due to lactic acid) and apple cider vinegar to tone the skin.

7. Laugh!

This is the top tip: if you are going to get lines – make them laugh lines! Studies show that laughing is beneficial to health and canhelp to keep you young at heart. There is something very attractive about a face that is well lived-in!

We spoke to Ashwin, of PunkANation, to learn about his musical journey towards his dream.

Things haven’t been smooth for him during his music journey over the past two years, considering he is currently residing alone in Singapore, out of the safe familiarity of his homeland India.

Apart from working in his day job in a multinational company here, this 21 year old dude spends his free time crafting his dream in his bedroom - as a self-taught musician.

He would spend countless sleepless nights preparing and recording his music, without any promise of being profitable, but he’s not complaining.

Why work so hard? Where did his passion come from? Let’s find out from him: QR Mart: Tell us about PunkANation. What is it?

Ashwin: The name itself is 'Punk'-'a'-'nation'.

Punk is a music genre. But to me, it also represents freedom; Freedom of what you want to do in life.

You'd just want to express yourself through music.

There're almost no boundaries. It started out when I first wrote a song. I figured that I needed a name and *snap*, the name just came to my mind naturally.

Just like that. Haha!

Q: Did you consider other names?

A: This name sounded so right to me! when it came I was like

'THIS IS IT!' A lot of punk bands have names starting with 'the'. 'The something', 'the this', 'the that'.

I’m not only into punk. I'm open to exploring other genres like acoustic, metal, rock. The basic idea of punk is freedom. It’s about being yourself, y’know?

Q: Why is freedom so important to you?

A: Of course it is important.

Every person needs a way to express himself, especially the creative types.

It's suffocating to get stuck in a society where it's always about performing your day job.

Instead of just doing something that you don't feel happy doing.. you could be doing what you love while keeping your day job.

At the end of the day the money you earn in your day job serves to support your dream, be it design, music, arts.. eventually when you’ll get better at it, it could take over your day job.

When I do my music I want it to be an extension of me; Something fully done by me, instead of being told what to do by someone else. When it's honest music that you do with your heart and soul, it's very pure in the way you express it.

Even in the vocals, if someone tells me what to do in it.. I'd feel very uneasy.

Scruffy looking but hardworking with passion was my first impression of him when I met Ashwin a few months ago, when he was still recording for his debut album This Pun Is Intended.

If you talk to me about music, you'd see my face light up.

You'd be able to feel my passion flowing through my body, judging from the enthusiaism in my body language. That's probably why I started PunkANation. If everybody can do what they love, then the nation will rise to a super powerful level of fulfilment, something even greater than just having a great economy. everyone should just do what they love.

Q: What's your music learning journey like?

A: In the beginning as i started producing songs i was using free trial softwares to help me out. Eventually i did more research, and earned more money to allow me to get better equipment and softwares for production. Skills improved along the way as I practised. Soon I was invited to compose music for a Korean short film, and that was when I felt like my skills were ready. i also listen to a lot of other music to learn how to attain the kind of quality they already have. The last thing I want is for my music to sound like they were recorded at home.

A: You have probably heard of the overused term 'pun unintended'. I just thought, for this album.. the music produced are inspired by my life experiences. Many of the characters and scenarios presented in the music are based on my own life.

Q: What are your future plans for PunkANation?

A: Well i'd definitely hope that it becomes something that can feed me? Haha! Right now, I have close to nothing. If it could eventually sustain and pay my rent, and that a lot more people actually enjoy my music, I could see myself playing in many shows in the future, getting

Q: You started doing music 2 years ago when you were 19. I know it's a really short time in between, but if you can travel back in time and were to give your 19-year old self some advice, what would you give?

What are some of the important lessons you have learnt?

A: I'd say 'you’re doing a great

I’m not the world’s most seasoned traveler, but I have made a number of trips lately and have learned a few things that work well.

This year I’ve traveled to Guam for a month, to Portland, New York City, Las Vegas, London, Paris, Southern California. They’ve all been beautiful trips, and I’ve never taken more than a small backpack.

Travel lightly, with no set agenda, and you’ll have an amazing, stress-free trip.

Traveling doesn’t have to be stressful. It can be simple, if you keep it so.

Pack little.

I take a small backpack, and don’t pack it too heavy either. I’ve found through experience that I just need a few pieces of clothing. I wash things in the shower if they get dirty and hang them to dry overnight. I bring my laptop, a paperback novel, maybe a small notebook. Have no agenda.

I often ask for recommendations from locals, and get a list of incredible things. I’ll also put everything on a Google Map, so I can see where everything is. Then I toss all that out and let the day lead me where it will. Having no set agenda means you aren’t pressured to get anything done each day, which means you can enjoy yourself fully.

The best way to explore any place is to walk. Walk all over, with no set directions. Get lost.

Eat anything you want, but don’t eat a lot. I like to mix fruits and veggies in with the heavier stuff, so I don’t feel so heavy.

Most people try to do too much, and rush around all day. Stroll casually, find good coffee shops or tea shops to relax in, or a good sidewalk cafe with good wine.

Find parks and enjoy them. If it rains, walk in the rain. Read a lot.
