What Else is Happening This Summer?
As you plan your summer adventure, there's even more excitement at Porsche Centre Canberra. In December 2024, the much-anticipated new Macan will officially launch in Australia, taking Porsche’s SUV range into an all-electric future. The second generation of the Porsche Macan builds on the legacy of its predecessor—Porsche’s best-selling model since its introduction in 2013—while introducing cuttingedge technology and timeless design.
The new Macan models, the Macan, Macan 4, Macan 4S and Macan Turbo, will be the first-ever allelectric SUVs in Porsche’s lineup, bringing the power and performance of a sports car into the SUV market. The entry level Macan achieves 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and the range topping Macan Turbo achieving a breathtaking 3.3 seconds.
The launch of the new Macan marks a bold step forward for Porsche as they continue to innovate while staying true to their sportscar heritage. Michael Mauer, Vice President Style Porsche, explains the philosophy behind the design: “The new model has an even sportier and more dynamic vibe. And driving pleasure is definitely reflected in the design.” From the moment you see the new Macan, it’s clear that this is a vehicle that embodies everything a Porsche should be—sleek, powerful, and unmistakably iconic.
An Electrifying Future
The new Macan’s design isn’t just about aesthetics—it also represents the latest in electric mobility. Built on a newly developed 800-volt Premium Platform Electric architecture, the Macan delivers both efficiency and performance. Charging from 10% to 80% in just 21 minutes with a fast charger and offering a range of up to 613km in the Macan 4 and 591km in the Macan Turbo, this vehicle is designed to keep you on the road longer, with fewer stops. Inside, the new Macan redefines what luxury means for an SUV.
The interior offers more space and comfort than ever before, with increased legroom for rear passengers and a bright, spacious feel thanks to large windows and smart design. The front seats are positioned lower, giving the driver and passenger a more connected, sporty driving experience. The Macan also introduces Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus for improved stability and handling, making this SUV feel like a true sports car, even on challenging routes.
Its design and technology commands attention in every detail, with the new Macan meticulously engineered to reflect its performance pedigree. The muscular bonnet, sharply defined wings, and 22-inch wheels create an athletic stance, while the adaptive rear spoiler and active cooling flaps enhance its aerodynamics.
These elements contribute to the Macan’s sleek design and impressive drag coefficient of 0.25, ensuring that the car cuts through the air with minimal resistance.
Inside, the Macan is both practical and high-tech, blending digital interfaces with analogue controls for air vents and climate settings. The addition of the LED communication strip along the interior door trim and cockpit adds a touch of futuristic flair, lighting up to provide real-time information about charging or vehicle status. This attention to detail, coupled with a focus on ecological materials, ensures that the new Macan is as forward-thinking on the inside as it is on the outside.
This summer, let Porsche Centre Canberra be your gateway to unforgettable driving experiences. Whether you’re renting a sports car for a weekend getaway or anticipating the arrival of the all-electric Macan, Porsche is your ticket to luxury, performance, and style. Discover the excitement for yourself—visit Porsche Centre Canberra and make this summer one to remember.
TED & OLIVE BOUTIQUE
BEAUTIFUL STYLE FOR THE EVERYDAY WOMAN
The vibrant story of Ted & Olive Boutique starts with longtime friends Brenda and Alex, who had transformed their shared passion for fashion into a successful retail venture. Having worked together in the political arena, they spotted a unique opportunity in Wagga Wagga to create a boutique that showcased beautiful Australian fashion labels. Just six weeks after their idea was born, they proudly opened the doors to Ted & Olive, a space that quickly became a favourite among fashion enthusiasts.
In 2022, the boutique expanded with the addition of Alex’s mother, Peta, who joined the team to help open a new location in Kingston, ACT. Together, this trio is dedicated to creating a welcoming atmosphere and providing quality fashion options that cater to the everyday woman, blending elegance with practicality.
CURATING A THOUGHTFUL COLLECTION
At Ted & Olive, the selection of designers, both Australian and international, is approached with intention and care. Brenda, Alex, and Peta handpick each piece to offer a diverse range of styles and brands that resonate with their clientele. They focus on meeting the needs of women in Canberra and Wagga Wagga, ensuring their offerings promote confidence and comfort rather than merely following fleeting trends.
Quality is paramount in every garment they choose. Regular trips to Sydney allow the team to assess fabrics and craftsmanship firsthand, ensuring that each item meets their high standards. They also prioritise nurturing relationships with major Australian brands featured in their flagship stores. This exclusive selection process is designed with their customers in mind, taking into account factors such as production origin, fibre content, and sustainability practices.
Ted & Olive shoppers can feel confident that when they purchase from the boutique, every item is not only stylish but also thoughtfully and sustainably sourced, easing any concerns about their buying choices.
ACTIVATE YOUR CAPSULE WARDROBE
YOUR PERSONAL STYLING SERVICES AWAIT
The ethos of Ted & Olive centres on the belief in quality and longevity. Brenda, Alex and Peta are strong advocates against fast fashion, opting instead for pieces designed to be cherished and worn repeatedly. Their collection features handmade items crafted in Australia, luxurious linens, and timeless staples like silk slips and versatile jumpers. This commitment to offering sophisticated pieces enables customers to build a wardrobe that stands the test of time.
Understanding that shopping can be overwhelming, Ted & Olive offers personalised styling services for those seeking one-on-one guidance. Clients have the opportunity to define their personal style, discover flattering shapes and colours, and create a functional wardrobe that suits their lifestyle. The team explains, “When browsing at a boutique, shoppers are typically exposed to only about 20% of the available stock, as they may not be intentionally looking for a particular item.” This
surprising insight highlights the importance of a personal styling experience, not only to fit and create a capsule wardrobe but also to ensure that shoppers leave with items they will wear and style every day. This thoughtful approach enhances the shopping experience, allowing clients to focus on the joy of discovering pieces that make them feel beautiful.
As the Australian fashion scene continues to thrive, offering something special for every wardrobe, Ted & Olive exemplifies this commitment to aligning fashion choices with values. As consumers increasingly seek to make informed decisions, stores like Ted & Olive not only elevate personal style but also contribute to a more sustainable and ethical industry, paving the way for a brighter future in fashion.

A VACATION NOT SO FAR FROM HOME
Imagine stepping into a world that feels both impossibly far away and yet profoundly close to home. At Jamala Wildlife Lodge, you're not just a guest—you’re an explorer transported to the heart of adventure, where the rhythm of life beats in harmony with the pulse of the wild.
In 1998, Richard and Maureen Tindale purchased what was then a small aquarium and native wildlife park that had gone into liquidation for the second time. With a shared vision, they set about building the iconic ‘National Zoo and Aquarium’ that houses animals in the most comfortable surroundings possible, keeping the animals wellbeing and species conservation at the height of their priorities. On top of the Zoo, the uniquely spectacular Jamala Wildlife Lodge was created and has now become a bucket list destination that not only provides visitors with a once-in-a-lifetime experience but is also a major contributor to funding the Zoo.
Visiting Jamala isn’t just a getaway—it’s an all-encompassing emotional journey. From the moment you embark on your first wildlife encounter, you realise this is no ordinary escape. You feel an electric excitement coursing through your veins as you come faceto-face with animals in their element, tempered by a deep sense of appreciation for their beauty and natural connection to life that surrounds us. This is more than a hotel stay; it’s a soulful reconnection with Mother Nature, an experience that touches your mind, body, and spirit in ways you never expected.
Every sense is awakened here. The abundant wildlife captivates with its grace and grandeur, while the vibrant African-inspired décor, the melodies of nature, and the flavors of a world-class dining experience immerse you fully in the magic of this place. Each moment is a reminder of the wonder and delicate balance of life—whether it’s the peaceful gaze of a giraffe from your balcony, the rumble of a lion in the distance, or the camaraderie of newfound friends sharing stories in the dining room.
JAMALA
WILDLIFE
LODGE: AN UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE
Last Month, the Q Living team had the unique opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the Jamala Wildlife Lodge experience. For a few days, we lived out our childhood dreams, stepping into the pages of The Lion King, Bambi, and Madagascar, surrounded by majestic creatures that seemed almost too magical to be real. At no surprise, we were greeted with a very warm welcome upon arrival by the friendly staff and the wonderful Jamala representatives, Will and Chara. We also had the honourable privilege of meeting the owner of Jamala, Richard Tindale.
We were given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to stay in the Giraffe Treehouse at Jamala Wildlife Lodge. From the moment we arrived, it felt like we had left our usual life behind. A few steps down the winding path, and we were transported to another world. Who knew it was possible to feel so far removed from Canberra, while staying right in the heart of it?
Upon entering the reception, we instantly felt a sense of relaxation as we were promptly greeted with warm, sincere hellos and genuine smiles from the Jamala staff. Standing in the reception alone was something special; the walls and spaces are adorned with unique and intricate African artifacts, making it feel as though you’ve stepped into an art museum with something new to gaze at around every corner. The owners travel to Africa several times a year, sourcing unique pieces directly from local artisans. These elements not only enhance the atmosphere of the lodge but also support local communities in Africa, making each stay feel meaningful.
Shortly after arrival, we enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea in the foyer, complete with an extravagant array of pastries, mini sandwiches, sweets, cheeses, charcuterie and fresh fruit. Here, we checked into the lodge, completing our paperwork which included selecting our dinner menu for later that night.
With eager minds and excited spirits, we embarked on our Jamala adventure, accompanied by our new friend Will. We hopped into the caddie, ready for our first adventure. It was inspiring to hear not just Will, but all of the staff speak with such passion about the zoo and the animals that make the experience unforgettable. Their stories of the animals' behaviours, personalities, and individual quirks highlighted the deep bond between the Jamala representatives and the wildlife they care for.
After a quick tour of the zoo, we had the opportunity to experience two fantastic animal encounters: meeting a Cheetah and a Rhinoceros. These encounters were unforgettable. During these interactions, the animals choose to engage with the guests, making it essential to listen to the zookeepers and follow their guidance to ensure the experience is enjoyable and comfortable for both the animals and the visitors.
Meeting a Cheetah up close is exhilarating. We could hear their unique and gentle purrs while sitting beside them, taking in their magnificent features and giving them gentle pats as they accepted them. Being in an environment with three roaming Cheetahs was an incredibly special experience which left our team quite speechless as we savoured each moment with these beautiful animals.
The second experience with the Rhinoceros was remarkable. Though impressive in size, our huge but humble friend only sought a soothing pat on his tough, yet soft skin. Watching the Jamala team interact with these animals, truly demonstrated the trust that had been built between one another. It was amazing to witness how, with the right education and care, animals could form strong, meaningful bonds with humans.
Learning about the conservation initiatives in place to protect these animals was an enriching experience. The goal behind these animal encounters isn’t just to create memorable moments; it is also about fostering a deeper connection between guests and the animals.
As Chara emphasises, “When people feel comfortable with animals, they’re more likely to support conservation efforts.” One of the most appealing aspects of Jamala is the opportunity for hands-on interaction with animals that have been raised to trust humans.
The staff’s warmth extends to guests, colleagues, and animals alike. Sue, a dedicated volunteer contributes her time by collecting recyclables throughout the zoo as part of her personal initiative to support both the animals and the zoo. Over the past eight years, her efforts have removed approximately 750,000 containers from landfills, with all funds raised going back into conservation projects. Meanwhile, the zoo’s Green Team has raised over $75,000 for conservation by minimising waste, including through a container deposit scheme.
For those eager to explore the world of wildlife more deeply, Jamala offers over 30 unique animal encounters. Visitors can meet a wide variety of species, from majestic Rhinos to playful Hyenas, while enjoying educational tours that emphasize the importance of wildlife conservation. All funds generated by the National Zoo and Jamala Wildlife Lodge are reinvested to support the animals and ensure the zoo’s ongoing success, helping it maintain its reputation as one of the best in Australia.
JAMALA WILDLIFE
LODGE: AN UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE
There’s nothing quite like returning to the Giraffe Lodge to unwind in quieter moments. After two exhilarating encounters we were transported to our treehouse by Will. As we arrived, we were greeted by several Deer and Alpacas that wander near the entrance, which separates the zoo from the Giraffe Treehouses. These animals contentedly graze just outside your door, adding to the tranquil atmosphere.
From the moment we stepped inside, the lodge felt like home. We were greeted with a gentle breeze circulating around us and soothing African music which played through the room speakers. A surprise welcome pack also awaited us, filled with an itinerary, details of exclusive encounters available at a discounted rate, zoo coupons, and a beautiful coffee table book to take home as a treasured keepsake.
Upon entering the Giraffe Treehouse, we had the delightful opportunity to meet our neighbours, Skye and Khamisi; two tall, friendly giraffes. These gentle giants welcomed us by walking over to the balcony to enjoy an afternoon carrot snack. Their heads peeked over the balcony, giving us a chance to hand-feed them with the guidance of a friendly Jamala representative. Their long tongues curled around each carrot stick as they gently pulled them away. Its’ quite surreal once the feeding experience ends, to turn around and step back into your treehouse to enjoy more down time, as your new neighbours roam freely outside your windows.
After meeting the gorgeous Giraffes, we wasted no time slipping into our fluffy white bathrobes and cozy giraffe-print slippers and savouring these pre-dinner moments of relaxation by sipping a glass of wine on the balcony as we gazed at the majestic Giraffes in front of us and stunning views.
JAMALA WILDLIFE LODGE: AN UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE
As evening fell, a culinary journey unlike any other awaited us. At Jamala, a four-course gourmet feast is included with your stay, complemented by perfectly paired drinks including premium champagne. All of the food at Jamala is sustainably sourced, meeting all certification standards. Jamala is committed to communicating these ecofriendly efforts to guests, especially as eco-tourism continues to gain importance.
As dinner time arrived, we were safely transported to the rainforest dining room with a minibus alongside other guests. Upon arrival we had the opportunity to wander through the aquarium on our way to a stunning private balcony where we were greeted with a glass of champagne to enjoy some pre-dinner treats. This included watching the gorgeous Hyenas as they were fed their meal and meeting the zoo’s celebrity residents; two magnificent white lions.
After our pre-dinner experience we were escorted to our tables where an incredible feast awaited us. With relaxed minds and full stomachs, we were re-joined in the dining room by the zoo’s white lions Jake and Mischka. The pair roamed around their outdoor enclosure before deciding to join the second encloser in the dining area, located among the restaurant visitors. It was an unforgettable experience to enjoy fine wine in the company of such beautiful animals.
Returning to the Giraffe Treehouse after a magical evening felt like stepping into another world, a sanctuary where time slowed down. The treehouse, with its warm, welcoming embrace, invited us to sink into crisp, soft linens as a cool breeze whispered through the open windows. Outside, we observed the majestic giraffes feeding under the moonlight, moving gracefully across, letting every moment wash over us as we unwound completely and reflected on the special day we had experienced.
JAMALA WILDLIFE LODGE: AN UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE
The next morning, we awoke feeling refreshed and excited for our guided tour of the zoo, where we learned more about the wonderful animals that it has become home to and the conservation initiatives in place. Prior to the tour, we were treated to an exquisite breakfast, rounding up our experience in the best way possible, leaving us completely immersed in the luxury of this unforgettable retreat.
In the midst of all the extraordinary moments, it becomes clear that a stay at Jamala is far from a typical getaway. CONTENTIOUS CHARACTER WINERY
DAIRY ROAD, FYSHWICK
Contentious Character Winery stands as a refreshing departure from the traditional, multi-generational vineyards that dot the Canberra wine scene. Formerly Lambert Vineyards, the estate took on new life in 2016 when Ben and Jeremy purchased it, breathing fresh energy into the space and making it their own. With a passion for food, wine, and community, they transformed the property by overhauling the kitchen, rejuvenating the grounds, and giving the restaurant a modern facelift. In 2024, Ben and Jeremy left the countryside to become 'city slickers', relocating to a vibrant new home in Dairy Road, Fyshwick. The move marks an exciting new chapter for the winery, which has always been about redefining the traditional vineyard experience.
Over the past eight years, Contentious Character has carved out a reputation for its bold, fun-loving approach, making friends with locals and becoming known for their eyebrow-raising events that deliver a healthy dose of fun and irreverence. But what really sets them apart is their commitment to doing things differently, with a spirit of adventure that is evident in both their wine and their brand.
Unlike many of the family-run wineries passed down through generations, Ben and Jeremy entered the world of winemaking out of pure passion for food and wine. With no deep family legacy to uphold, they had the freedom to forge their own path, and that’s exactly what they did. They wanted their brand to be fun, approachable, and not take itself too seriously — a reflection of their belief that wine should be enjoyed by everyone, not just connoisseurs.
The winery's name, Contentious Character, encapsulates its playful spirit. The word "contentious" nods to the debates that helped shape Canberra, and "character" speaks to both the personality of the wine and the land it comes from. The labels are quirky, often inspiring lively debate among drinkers, while the wines themselves resonate with a sense of individuality and lightheartedness. Wines like the popular "Chardy Party" break from traditional naming conventions, offering a fun twist while delivering high-quality wine that pairs well with any occasion.
Winemaker Jeremy, who is self-taught, takes a traditionalist approach but with a modern flair, crafting wines as he likes to drink them. He believes in the importance of using only high-quality fruit and making each wine with the same dedication to excellence. Statement wines, the backbone of their range, are fermented in stainless steel, giving them a crisp, clean profile. The "Chardy Party," for example, is a fresh take on Chardonnay with Granny Smith apple notes, making it a bright and refreshing choice.
For those looking for something more complex, the premium Chardonnay offers a deeper experience. This wine spends 18 months fermenting in French oak barrels, undergoing malolactic fermentation, which imparts a creamy texture and adds layers of complexity. Toasted notes from the oak barrel bring subtlety to the wine, making it perfect for special occasions or simply indulging in something a little more luxurious. The meticulous process behind this wine takes nearly two years, showcasing the careful craftsmanship that goes into each bottle.
Contentious Character isn’t just about wine — it’s about creating memorable experiences. Their events are designed to bring people together, spark conversation, and, of course, enjoy some excellent wine. Whether it's a Bridgerton-themed ball or their lively debate series with the Canberra Comedy Festival (launching this November), they’ve mastered the art of mixing highbrow and lowbrow fun in ways that delight and surprise guests.
Looking ahead to the festive season, Contentious Character has a calendar full of exciting events, including Christmas and corporate functions, and the upcoming Grapes of Mirth festival during Australia Day weekend. Their ability to blend culture, humour, and wine makes their events a must-visit for both locals and tourists alike.
On top of their calendar of exciting events, Contentious Character also offers a series of fun, indulgent experiences designed to bring people together. From Monday to Wednesday at 5 PM, you can enjoy tapas with bottomless wine, offering a perfect mid-week escape with friends.
On Thursdays through to Sundays at 10 AM, the winery hosts a lively brunch with bottomless mimosas, a bubbly way to kickstart your weekend. For a more relaxed afternoon, Sunday at 4 PM brings high tea paired with bottomless gin and tonics, offering a refreshing twist on a classic tradition.
These events add a playful layer to the winery’s offering, ensuring there’s something for everyone throughout the week.
At Contentious Character, food is just as important as the wine. Their café opens early for breakfast and offers all-day dining with a modern, global twist, thanks to the Head Chef. With a background in fine dining and a love for experimentation, their renowned chef brings a fusion of Japanese spices and Western flavors to the table.
Some of the standout dishes include a beautifully presented beetroot puree salmon with gin aromatics, offering a refreshing balance of flavours, and the chili corn rib, deep-fried with chilli butter, which packs a punch of flavor. For mains, diners can enjoy dishes like the succulent duck with pickled mushrooms and pumpkin, served with a decadent Contentious Character wine jus, or the Mediterranean-style marlin steak, complemented by olives and anchovies for a zesty, savoury experience. Each dish is thoughtfully paired with the winery's eclectic range of wines, ensuring a dining experience that is both innovative and indulgent.
Ultimately, Contentious Character Winery is a place where wine, food, and community come together in an atmosphere of playful sophistication. Whether you're there for a quirky event, an impromptu wine tasting, or a delicious meal paired with Jeremy’s carefully crafted wines, you'll leave with a story to tell. True to its name, this is a winery that encourages debate — not just about the wine, but about what a winery should be.
So, next time you’re near Canberra, don’t miss the chance to visit this one-of-a-kind winery that’s redefining what it means to enjoy a glass of wine — with a bit of fun on the side.
Dearest gentle readers,
On the eve of the 28th of September, Contentious Character hosted an enchanting Bridgerton-themed spring ball, an event that transported guests straight into the world of regency-era romance and elegance. The winery, known for its creative approach to events, transformed its space into a scene that could have been lifted directly from the Bridgerton family estate. The décor was nothing short of spectacular. A sea of purple blooms—lavender and wisteria—draped the entrance and outdoor area and a gorgeous array of flowers and wreaths adorned the ballroom, creating a spectacular scene. The setting was illuminated by the soft, flickering glow of countless candles, adding to the sense of timeless romance. Wine barrels, adorned with famous Bridgerton quotes, were found at the entrance, providing a charming backdrop for conversation and photo opportunities.
The evening's entertainment was sublime. A string quartet, positioned perfectly amongst the floral arrangements, played classical versions of popular songs from the iconic Bridgerton series adding a sophisticated yet familiar touch to the night. The iconic melodies allowed guests to truly lose themselves in the elegant ambiance and take to the dance floor as if they were attending one of Lady Danbury’s great Balls. The culinary offerings matched the high standard set by the décor. Guests were treated to an array of expertly crafted cocktails, each as beautiful as it was delicious. The accompanying canapés were equally impressive—artfully presented and packed with flavor, they were the perfect complement to the evening’s drinks.
Of course, no Bridgerton-themed ball would be complete without ballroom dancing, and the guests fully embraced the opportunity. Dressed in regencyinspired attire, they twirled across the dance floor, bringing the spirit of the period to life.
Ladies in flowing gowns and gentlemen in waistcoats moved gracefully to the music, the room buzzing with the excitement of the occasion as guests allowed themselves to be transported back to the elegance and intrigue of the early 19th century.
The event was a resounding success, with every detail meticulously designed to capture the elegance and whim of the Bridgerton world.
From the floral arrangements and candlelit ambiance to the expertly curated food and music, Contentious Character Winery proved themselves as a premier destination for memorable, immersive events. It was a night to remember, blending the charm of the past with the modern luxury the winery is known for.
Until the next ball, my dear readers, keep your dance cards full and your glasses of Contentious Character wine even fuller.
Yours truly, The Q Living Team
LERIDA ESTATE WINERY
LAKE GEORGE
LERIDA ESTATE
Lerida began as a vision and dream to produce exceptional, award-winning cool climate wines by the original owners, Jim Lumbers and Anne Caine. The vineyard was planted in 1997 with 20 acres under vine.
The vineyard was planted predominantly with Pinot Noir, a grape that thrives in the region’s unique terroir. Alongside this flagship varietal, they also cultivated other grapes such as Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet Franc, Riesling, Shiraz and Viognier.
The vineyard’s evolution was not just about the grapes, it was also a story of architectural vision. The award-winning Australian architect Glenn Murcutt designed Lerida Estate's striking Cellar Door and Winery. In 2005, the building was completed and Lerida Estate began its journey.
Between 2005 and 2016, Anne and Jim ran Lerida Estate and grew the brand within the Canberra District. The Cellar Door operated 7 days a week and Café Lerida on weekends. growing the brand and solidifying its presence within the Canberra District. The Cellar Door was open daily, and the estate’s restaurant, Café Lerida, operated on weekends.
LERIDA ESTATE
In March 2017, Lerida Estate was sold and changed ownership to the McRoberts Family from Canberra. The business quickly took on a new direction with a very clear plan to not only increase sales, growth and brand awareness but to also assert themselves as the ‘ultimate winery experience’, cementing their position in wine tourism within the Canberra region and beyond.
Under their ownership, it was not long before the Cellar Door and Café Lerida were operating 7 days a week, welcoming a steady stream of visitors eager to enjoy the estate’s renowned wines and elevated dining experience.
The focus was on creating a Cellar Door experience that would drive traffic to the region. This meant a complete overhaul of the dining experience on offer and meant more Chefs were hired and menus were created in line with the McRobert’s vision for premium offerings.
Over the years Lerida Estate has continued to cement itself as one of the finest producers of wine in the Canberra District. Their commitment to excellence has certainly paid off, with the winery continually recognized for its fine wines across national wine shows and by industry reviewers alike.
The estate’s ambition, craftsmanship, and dedication have firmly established it as one of the Canberra District’s premier wine producers.
Among Lerida Estate’s exceptional portfolio of wines, their most popular and most awarded wine is the Cullerin Riesling. What makes this wine truly special is the unique fermentation technique employed by Lerida’s Chief Winemaker, Jacob Law.
To achieve a perfect balance of freshness and complexity, Jacob uses two different fermentation techniques when making this wine. Half of the Riesling is cold fermented in stainless steel, which helps to retain its fresh fruit and floral aromas.
The other half is barrel-fermented to build texture and add layers of complexity to the flavors. The two ferments are then blended together, resulting in a Riesling that showcases the best of both fermentation processes, offering a refreshing yet intricately layered wine.
LERIDA ESTATE
At Lerida Estate, the experience goes beyond just wine tasting. The estate plays host to a variety of engaging events, each designed to draw guests into the world of winemaking and the beauty of the vineyard. From wine blending workshops and life drawing sessions and ‘Wines in the Vines’ to their unique winemaker lunches, there is always something happening at Lerida.
The winemaker lunches are a particularly special event, offering guests a chance to enjoy a curated multicourse meal paired with wines selected by their winemaker. Following lunch, guests can take a tour of the vineyard and winery, getting a behind-the-scenes look at the craft of winemaking.
As spring and summer approach, Lerida Estate is bringing back one of its most popular attractions: Sunday Sounds, where live music will fill the courtyard during lunch service. Local musicians will take the stage, providing the perfect backdrop for a relaxing afternoon of great food, wine, and music.
No visit to Lerida Estate is complete without indulging in the delights of Café Lerida. The Cellar Door and Café Lerida are open 7 days a week with lunch served 11am – 3pm. The café offers a seasonal menu that showcases premium, locally sourced ingredients where possible. From cheese and charcuterie boards and smoked olives to their decadent baked brie with locally sourced black garlic and honey, there are delicious options to suit everyone.
For those after something more substantial, there is the option to have 2 or 3 courses and wine matched by our Sommelier. A highly recommended must-try for any visitor is the Pappardelle with courgette ribbons and pan-seared scallops in a saffron cream sauce, a dish that pairs beautifully with a glass of the estate’s 2024 Cullerin Riesling.
Another highlight is the Atlantic salmon with crispy Szechuan green beans, broccolini and lime aioli served alongside the estate’s 2023 Shiraz Viognier. Whether you’re enjoying a casual lunch or indulging in a multi-course wine pairing experience, the combination of fine food and wine at Café Lerida is sure to leave a lasting impression.
From its early days as a dream on the shores of Lake George to its current status as one of Canberra’s most celebrated wineries, Lerida Estate has always been about more than just wine. As it continues to grow and evolve, one thing remains constant: Lerida Estate’s commitment to excellence. Whether you come for the wine, the food, or the stunning views, a visit to Lerida Estate is an experience not to be missed.

DIONYSUS WINERY & WOO CHOCOLATES
Inspired by the great wines being produced in the Canberra District and a love of wine Wendy and Michael O’Dea made the decision to purchase a property in Murrumbateman in 1996 and commence a Vineyard and Winery. With the dream of producing wines that capture both the vibrancy of the region and the artistry of fine winemaking, they planted the first vines in 1998 and produced their inaugural wines in 2001. A few years later, in 2003, Dionysus opened its cellar door, inviting guests to experience firsthand the magic of their wines and the unique flavors of the region. Today, Dionysus Winery is not only a celebrated stop for wine lovers but also a place where artisanal chocolate makes an appearance, expertly crafted by Wendy to complement her love for wine.
Among Dionysus Winery’s signature offerings is one of their most interesting and popular wines, Gamay. Originating in France’s Beaujeu region, situated between Burgundy and the Rhône, this grape variety makes a distinct, lighter red wine known for its fruitiness and low tannin content.
Dionysus’ Gamay undergoes a unique dual fermentation process combining Carbonic Maceration with open fermentation to achieve its nuanced character. The Carbonic Maceration process allows whole grapes to ferment without losing any juice, capturing intense, heady fruit flavors and The open fermentation that follows introduces tannin and structure to the wine. This unique process results in a beautifully balanced wine that delights the senses with its smooth, layered profile.
As the seasons change, Dionysus Winery comes alive with celebrations and tastings. Spring is an especially vibrant time, as Murrumbateman hosts the much-loved Murrumbateman Moving Feast over the October long weekend. This unique event pairs an entrée-sized meal with a glass of local wine, and guests move from venue to venue, sampling regional flavors and discovering new favorites.
For Dionysus, the Moving Feast offers a perfect chance to share their wines in the festive atmosphere of Murrumbateman’s most delicious weekend, as well as to connect with both loyal customers and new visitors drawn by the appeal of wine country.
DIONYSUS WINERY & WOO CHOCOLATES
The winery’s passion extends beyond the vineyard to the creation of Woo Chocolates, an exquisite collection of artisan chocolates, handcrafted by Wendy herself. Woo Chocolates is the result of tapping into creativity, colour, texture and a quest to find unique and interesting flavours.
Each chocolate is truly handmade using high-quality Belgian chocolate crafted from West African cocoa beans. Wendy’s commitment to using the finest ingredients shines through in each handmade chocolate, creating a sensory experience that complements the wines, introducing an element of luxury and artistry to Dionysus Winery.
Woo Chocolates features three main collections: Australian bush herb truffles, traditional bon bons, and a wine selection crafted specifically to highlight
the characteristics of Dionysus’ wines. They also have a large range of chocolate bars, different flavours of rocky road and treats for the kids.
Each wine in their portfolio has its own corresponding chocolate, designed with that wine as a primary ingredient. These wine chocolates are made to highlight the characteristics of their corresponding wine and when paired, make for a unique taste sensation.
For instance, higher-acid wines are paired with creamy white chocolate, barrel-fermented whites find their match in milk chocolate, and tannic red wines are beautifully offset by rich, dark chocolate.
DIONYSUS WINERY & WOO CHOCOLATES
Choosing a favourite among the Woo Chocolates creations is no easy feat, but Wendy’s top picks are the lemon meringue bon bon and the Shiraz and Raspberry bon bon, each with multiple layers of decadent filling that burst with flavor at first bite. These chocolates are designed to provide a perfect pairing experience with Dionysus wines, elevating each sip and each bite.
From the vineyard to the chocolate-making workshop, Dionysus Winery offers an experience that is as authentic as it is indulgent. With a history rooted in the love of wine and an everexpanding vision for what they can create, Wendy and Michael O'Dea have made Dionysus a must-visit destination in Murrumbateman. Whether you’re sipping their delightful Gamay, or savouring the decadence of Woo Chocolates, a visit to Dionysus Winery promises a journey through flavor and culinary craftsmanship.
In the heart of Murrumbateman, Four Winds Vineyard is a testament to the passion, dedication, and vision of the Lunney family. What began as a fine-wool sheep farm in 1998 has transformed into a 33-acre vineyard and cellar door. When Graeme and Suzanne Lunney transitioned from sheep farming to viticulture, planting the first vines that would set this property on a new path the Four Winds story began. Today, their daughter, Sarah Collingwood, along with her husband John, carries on the family legacy, operating the 33acre vineyard and the inviting cellar door that has become a Murrumbateman destination.
In 2013, a grant aimed at boosting rural tourism helped to partially fund the opening of the Four Winds cellar door. Now open seven days a week, it has blossomed into a favorite lunch spot, drawing both locals and visitors alike. The wood-fired pizza are made on site fresh daily. In addition to pizzas there is a deli fridge offering meats and cheeses allowing guests to build their own grazing boards from local and Australian made produce. The cellar door is open seven days a week, catering to both locals and tourists looking for a scenic lunch spot and a taste of Four Winds’ acclaimed wines.
FOUR WINDS VINEYARD
The vineyard’s focus on quality is reflected in its numerous awards. In 2023, Four Winds’ 2022 Shiraz was recognized at the Australian Single Vineyard Wine Show with Top Gold, as well as trophies for Best Shiraz and Best Table Red. To top that off, COO and vineyard manager, John Collingwood, was presented with the Best Viticulturist Trophy. Adding to these honors, Four Winds Vineyard has earned a 5-Star Winery rating from the Halliday Wine Companion and a Top Winery ranking from the Real Review. The name ‘Four Winds’ harks back to the property’s original owners, a miner and his wife, Scheherazade, named after the story telling character in The Arabian Nights. In one of her favourite tales, a magic carpet is carried forward by the four winds of good fortune. She named this small farm in Murrumbateman ‘Four Winds’ in the hope it would carry their good fortunes.—A name which the Lunneys have carried forward into the winery’s brand.
Four Winds Vineyard has developed a strong reputation for its Shiraz and Riesling grapes, which flourish in Murrumbateman’s climate. These varieties are their primary focus, allowing them to create a vast array of wines from these foundations.
Their commitment to quality and creativity is evident in their varietal range: the Shiraz grape, for example, finds its way into fortified wine, a Shiraz Viognier blend, a rosé, and even a sparkling rosé. Meanwhile, the Riesling grape is crafted into both a sparkling Riesling and a still white wine, with occasional off-dry riesling releases.
Each year, Four Winds hosts a variety of events for the changing seasons in the vineyard, adding to the vibrant community atmosphere. This year, the vineyard held a Rosé Dinner to debut their sparkling rosé and a Shiraz Dinner in celebration of International Shiraz Day. Live music is a staple at the cellar door and can be enjoyed each weekend from noon to 3pm throughout the warmer months.
Early this November, Four Winds hosted their wonderful event ‘Vineyard Vibes’: a spring celebration featuring award-winning wines, fresh wood-fired pizzas, live music, and frosé. From November 29, the cellar door will open on Friday evenings in the lead up to Christmas.
An opportunity to enjoy a relaxed dinner overlooking the vineyard between 5-8pm. On December 6, Four Winds will hold its annual Carols by Barrels event, featuring singer Amelie Thomas, ringing in the festive spirit with Christmas carols in an unforgettable setting.
FOUR WINDS VINEYARD
The Four Winds cellar door offers a charmingly simple menu of wood-fired pizzas made with freshly prepared dough each day. Vegetarian, gluten-free, and vegan options are available to cater to various dietary preferences. Popular choices include the salami and black olive pizza, and the potato and Gorgonzola pizza, both crowd favorites among guests.
These delicious bites pair effortlessly with Four Winds’ tasting flights—a paddle of four wines ideal for savoring the breadth of the vineyard’s offerings. If you are looking for a glass of wine to pair with your meal, the newly released 2023 Sparkling Riesling is a standout choice, pairing well with both pizza and grazing boards; offering a crisp, vibrant complement to the dining experience.
At Four Winds Vineyard, every visit offers a journey into the Lunney family’s rich heritage and the fruits of their labor. Welcoming visitors to enjoy its award-winning wines, inviting cellar door, and thoughtfully curated events, Four Winds Vineyard is truly a destination to savour.
MURRUMBATEMAN WINERY
Officially established in 1973, Murrumbateman Winery is one of the oldest wineries in the Murrumbateman region. Geoff and Trish Middleton started work on the block in the 1960s and owned the winery up until 1990. The current owner, winemaker and vigneron is Bobbie Makin and he has been at the winery for the past 14 years. Bobbie’s focus is on small batch, hand crafted wines made using cool climate fruit from the region. Murrumbateman is known for producing excellent cool climate Riesling and Shiraz and in addition to these, Bobbie has a passion for working with alternate varieties such as Fiano, Malbec, Sangiovese, Nebbiolo and Tempranillo to name just a few.
Mollie (the owners' Husky/Kelpie cross) can usually be found wagging her tail at the cellar door as she greets visitors and supervises the staff. Mollie also has her own wine label so if she’s not at cellar door, she may be in the winery supervising the next vintage of her Sauvignon Blanc. Being a recuse dog herself, Mollie is proud that the dog labelled wines produced support the ACT RSPCA. The cellar door terrace and lawn are dog friendly and well-behaved dogs are always welcome.
MURRUMBATEMAN
In addition to Mollie’s signature Sauvignon Blanc, one of the winery’s most beloved offerings is their off-dry pinot gris. This wine is one of their RSPCA fundraisers so naturally, they have continued with a doggy theme and called it the Pinot Grrr-is Off-Dry (The Gris must be said with a growl).
This off-dry Pinot Gris is a crowd favourite, with a delicate sweetness and a signature pink hue that comes from fermenting with the grape skins. To make this wine, Bobbie starts the fermentation process with crushed grapes and their skins. Using the skins in fermentation adds that pink hue and provides textural tannins. By carefully cooling the wine during fermentation, Bobbie slows down
yeast activity, as less active yeasts don’t use up all of the natural sugars in the grape juice which leaves more sweetness in the finished wine. The result is a refreshingly sweet yet balanced pink hued wine with only 9.6% alcohol, ideal for a relaxing afternoon cheese board.
The winery is as much a community gathering place as it is a destination for wine lovers. Visitors to Murrumbateman can enjoy a wide range of activities, from art classes and live music to exclusive behind-the-scenes tours, grape stomping and bottling your own wine. These activities are usually offered in conjunction with other festivals or can be quite ad-hoc when circumstances allow. The best way to see keep in touch with what’s on offer is to check our social media: @murrumbatemanwiney .
This October, Murrumbateman Winery hosted the Murrumbateman Moving Feast, a vibrant event where guests experienced a roving degustation through the region’s wineries, enjoying delightful pairings of local wines and seasonal dishes. For a holiday event with a difference, Mollie’s Christmas Party will be happening on the first weekend of December. This festive occasion sees their iconic dog Mollie invite friendly dogs and their humans to an RSPCA fundraising Christmas party complete with doggy treats, games, and a special appearance from Mrs. Claws.

BLACKWATTLE ALPACA FARM
MURRUMBATEMAN
Twelve years ago, Blackwattle Alpaca Farm began as a family endeavour with a small herd of pet alpacas. The founders began their business venture simply by dyeing fibre and yarn at home from their small herd. As the popularity of their products started to grow within the community, the founders realised there was something special in what they were creating and their shed quickly became their new workshop. Soon, people were visiting not only for the yarn but also to meet the friendly alpacas up close.
As the popularity of these products grew, the business quickly expanded, eventually requiring a larger space for production. For the first five years, the farm operated from a shed next to the family home. In 2022, they opened a dedicated tourism building, known as “Blackwattle HQ,” which houses the dye studio, a crafting workshop space, a cozy café, office space, and an inviting farm shop stocked with locally made alpaca products. This facility offers visitors a scenic view of the farm, allowing them to enjoy refreshments while watching the alpacas and llamas in the fields.
Here, guests can enjoy a warm slice of cake, sip coffee, and take in panoramic views of the farm. From students on curriculum-based tours to disability groups, Blackwattle welcomes everyone with open arms, providing tailored educational tours that foster a deeper appreciation for alpacas and their unique qualities. The farm has grown significantly over the years, going from a single employee to a team of over fifteen, all of whom are local residents from Murrumbateman, Yass, and Canberra. The farm is open to the public from Friday to Sunday, offering a full weekend experience of alpaca interactions, shopping, and relaxation.
For those seeking a one-of-a-kind experience, Blackwattle offers several interactive tours. A standout favourite is “Brunch with the Bunch,” held most Sunday mornings. Visitors begin by meeting a handsome llama and then proceed to a pasture brimming with alpacas, where they can hand-feed these gentle animals.
Brunch is served overlooking the fields, where guests can savour a freshly cooked meal in the company of their new furry friends. Other popular options include walking tours and boho-style picnics, each one designed to showcase the beauty and serenity of Blackwattle’s alpaca haven. Ask the owners what they love most about their work, and the answer is simple: the joy that Blackwattle’s alpacas and llamas bring to visitors.
Watching people connect with the herd, feeding and interacting with them, brings a unique, contagious happiness that visitors carry with them long after they leave. The farm’s atmosphere is designed to be uplifting, and every bit of laughter and enjoyment reflects the true heart of the Blackwattle experience.
Blackwattle Alpaca Farm offers more than just a visit; it’s an opportunity to step into a world of artisanal craft, peaceful farmland, and the soft, curious gaze of alpacas. Whether you’re feeding a herd or exploring the farm’s fibre craft, a day at Blackwattle is one of discovery and connection. So, gather your loved ones, and come experience the magic of the Farm, where you’ll find joy, creativity, and plenty of alpaca cuddles.
BLACKWATTLE ALPACA FARM
Beyond the joy they bring, alpacas and llamas are fascinating creatures with some truly remarkable qualities. Here are a few fun facts about these charming animals:
Daytime Births: Alpacas and llamas most commonly give birth between 10 am and 3 pm. This adaptation, developed in their native South American highlands, ensures that the crias (baby alpacas) can start moving up and around before nightfall, when predators are more active.
Camelid Family Ties: Alpacas and llamas are related to camels. There are 5 family members in the ‘Camelid’ family tree. These include Camels (both Bactrian and Dromedary), llamas, alpaca, vicuñas, and guanacos. While alpacas are closely related to vicuñas, llamas share ancestry with guanacos.
Unique Birth Patterns: Alpacas typically give birth to a single cria following an 11.5-month gestational period, with twins being a rare occurrence from time to time.
QUEANBEYAN-PALERANG ARTS TRAIL
HIGHLIGHTING WHEELBARROW ROAD ART
The Queanbeyan-Palerang Arts Trail is an annual celebration of local artists held over three consecutive weekends in October. The event is spread across the key localities; Braidwood, Bungendore & Queanbeyan. Art Galleries, Artist Studios and Creative Practitioners are invited to participate in the Arts Trail by throwing open their doors or activating spaces to engage the visiting public to experience the wealth of talent that resides in the Queanbeyan-Palerang region. Local artist Kahli McLeod will be proudly showcasing her work on the Gallery Wall of the Braidwood Library over the course of this year’s Arts Trail event.
INTRODUCING KAHLI WHEELBARROW ROAD
Kahli is a Braidwood based artist who primarily paints in watercolour or acrylic. Kahli’s artistic journey began in 2017, after creating pieces of watercolour nursery art for her son’s room whilst on maternity leave. Unexpectedly, after sharing photos of the art on social media, requests for commissions soon followed and her art journey began. Kahli is a self-taught artist and works predominately in watercolour and gouache, and more recently, acrylic on canvas.
She is inspired by her coastal/rural upbringing and love of Australian wildlife. Her exhibition for the Arts Trail features the busts of Australian birds which are acyclic on canvas with simple bright backgrounds allowing the bird to be the focal point.
Kahli has included a number of iconic birds in her works so far, these include; Rainbow Lorikeets, Eastern Rosellas, Gang Gang, Magpie, Blue Wren, Kookaburra, Pelican, Cockatiel, Cockatoo, Kingfisher, Pale faced Rosella and Barn Owl.
The principal theme in Kahli’s work is Australian wildlife and rural Australia which is inspired by her upbringing on her family's farm near Milton on the South Coast of NSW. The name of her studio, 'Wheelbarrow Road Art' is inspired by a local backroad near her parents’ farm, where she spent much of her youth riding horses and enjoying nature and wildlife.
There are two distinct styles to Kahli's work; pieces of art directed towards children in the form of nursery art, and the other to adults featuring more realistic pieces. The nursery art features Australian wildlife and poses the question “What Australian animals might I see?”, offering different
locations such as ‘in my backyard’, ‘in the city’, ‘in the outback’ etc.
It’s Kahli’s hope that children will recognise native wildlife from the art in their room, sparking joy and curious conversations about native wildlife they see in the real world. The second style features detailed wildlife or rural animals on simple backgrounds, mostly completed with acrylic on canvas.
QUEANBEYAN-PALERANG ARTS TRAIL WHEELBARROW ROAD
Kahli has sold her watercolour and gouache artwork locally, nationally and internationally, and is hopeful that the new medium of acrylic will share a similar success. Kahli’s art journey is focused on creating larger scale paintings in acrylic, continuing with watercolour/gouache and dreams of collaborating with an author to one day illustrate a children’s book.
The current exhibition for the Arts Trail in Braidwood will feature Kahli’s signature style, with the busts of a number of popular and well-loved Australian birds. The pieces can be viewed at the Braidwood Library, starting from the 5th and 6th October, through to the Christmas period.
All of the exhibited artwork is also available for purchase - these are original pieces and not intended to be replicated. They are available for purchase through the Braidwood Library, or via Kahli's website at www.wheelbarrowroadart.com.
IN QUEANBEYAN
A LEGEND STEEPED IN COMMUNITY AND TRADITION
The story of the Canberra Raiders is one deeply rooted in community, tradition, and the town of Queanbeyan, where the team found its first supporters and home. Formed in the early 1980s, the Raiders were born out of an era when the New South Wales Rugby Football League (NSWRFL) sought to expand beyond Sydney, introducing regional teams into the state’s rugby league competition. The Queanbeyan Blues, coached by Colin O’Rourke at the time, were tapped to form the Canberra franchise, setting the stage for the Raiders’ beginnings.
EARLY RUGBY LEAGUE IN QUEANBEYAN
Queanbeyan’s relationship with rugby league dates back even further, to 1921. That year, the Queanbeyan Warrigals Rugby Club held a preseason meeting at the Triumph Theatre's supper room, where it was decided to reorganize the club and adopt the rugby league game.
History was made on May 22, 1921, when the Warrigals played their opening game against Bungendore. The match marked the first time Queanbeyan competed in rugby league, as documented by the Queanbeyan Age.
The groundwork for rugby in the region was laid even earlier. Records indicate that as far back as 1878, inter-town rugby games between
Queanbeyan and Yass had taken place. Rugby’s presence in the area grew significantly, with community figures like Frederick Campbell and Edward O’Sullivan supporting the local clubs.
Nathan Moses Lazarus, a Queanbeyan resident, donated a sundial to the town square in 1860, where it remains today. His family was deeply involved in the development of rugby, adding to the sport’s popularity in Queanbeyan in the decades leading up to the Great War.

Formative Years and First Achievements
The Canberra Raiders’ first seasons were played out on the hallowed turf of Queanbeyan’s Seiffert Oval, which became the team's official home. The Queanbeyan Leagues Club hosted the official luncheon marking the Raiders’ entry into the NSWRFL premiership, with former Australian international Don Furner as coach and David Grant as inaugural captain. In their early years, the Raiders faced their share of challenges, with notorious late-game losses earning them the nickname "Canberra Faders."
Despite the ups and downs, the Raiders secured their first win in a nail-biting 12-11 victory over Newtown in their eighth game, and later pulled off a remarkable upset against then-league leaders South Sydney. Although their debut season ended with the Raiders claiming the wooden spoon, it marked the last time they finished in that position, laying the groundwork for a brighter future.
Memorable games followed, such as the 1984 match against the Bulldogs at Seiffert Oval, which the Raiders narrowly won in a thrilling display.
Growth and Legacy
From these humble beginnings, the Raiders grew into an internationally recognized club. The connection to Queanbeyan remained a crucial part of the Raiders' identity.
In 2023, the Raiders launched their inaugural NRLW team, supported by the Raiders Foundation, which established an NRLW academy and scholarship program to strengthen women’s participation in the sport. Equipment, coaching staff, and other resources were put in place, and the team made its debut in the Telstra Women’s Premiership. The inaugural NRLW team will be forever honored on the new NRLW honor roll, symbolizing the club’s commitment to inclusivity and growth.

A Return to Seiffert Oval
Fast forward to 2024, the Raiders returned to their spiritual home at Seiffert Oval in Queanbeyan, as part of the NRL’s 2024 Pre-Season Challenge. The Challenge ran over two weeks in February, with the Raiders facing the North Queensland Cowboys in Queanbeyan on Sunday, February 25. Seiffert Oval holds a proud place in Raiders history, as it had served as the club’s inaugural home ground from 1982 until the end of the 1989 season, before the team relocated their home matches to Bruce Stadium (now known as GIO Stadium Canberra).
Mayor of Queanbeyan–Palerang Regional Council, Kenrick Winchester, expressed confidence that locals would embrace the match and anticipated the Raiders’ return to their roots in Queanbeyan.“As a massive Raiders fan and a proud Queanbeyan local, I couldn’t wait to welcome the Raiders back to their spiritual home at Seiffert Oval,” Mr. Winchester said. “I was there and looked forward to seeing a big crowd supporting the Mighty Green Machine.”
Raiders CEO Don Furner noted that the return to Seiffert Oval gave Raiders members and fans from the region an early opportunity to see the team in 2024, and it provided the new crop of Raiders NRL players with a connection to their roots. “The Raiders have a long and proud association with Queanbeyan. For our young NRL players to play on the hallowed turf at Seiffert Oval, as the club’s pioneer players once did, was a great experience,” Furner said. “I was sure Raiders members and fans would be thrilled to see the team play a match locally ahead of the start of the regular season. With it being our final game before the season, I was certain Ricky would select his strongest available side for the match.”
This event symbolized more than just a game; it was a tribute to the Raiders’ enduring bond with Queanbeyan and a reminder of how the community’s early support helped shape the team. From the local support at Seiffert Oval to their growth on the national stage, the Raiders have always represented the values and pride of Queanbeyan.
The Canberra Raiders’ journey from a small-town club to a powerhouse in rugby league is a testament to community spirit, resilience, and the sport's unifying power. This legacy, built in Queanbeyan, continues to thrive with every game and inspires the next generation of Raiders fans.
The Global Stage Awaits
In 2025, The Canberra Raiders will be ‘Raiding Las Vegas’, kicking off the NRL season in a headline match at the Rugby League Las Vegas festival. Scheduled for Saturday, March 1, the Raiders will face off against the New Zealand Warriors at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, launching the season in a venue known for its iconic sporting events. The 2025 Las Vegas festival promises to be even more spectacular than its debut, with more games, additional teams, and expanded international representation. The festival will unite eight teams from both the NRL and the Super League, alongside an international women’s Test match, creating a thrilling showcase of rugby league for a global audience. With more opportunities for fans to immerse themselves in this once-in-a-lifetime event, the 2025 Rugby League Las Vegas festival aims to elevate the sport’s presence on the world stage, celebrating the action, camaraderie, and spirit of rugby league.
The Canberra Raiders’ journey from their humble beginnings at Seiffert Oval in Queanbeyan to their upcoming debut in Las Vegas is a testament to their remarkable growth and resilience. What started as a local team with deep community roots has evolved into a powerhouse that now represents Australia on the global stage. With decades of memorable wins, iconic players, and a dedicated fan base, the Raiders have become not only a strong force in the NRL but a symbol of Canberra’s spirit and pride.

NIUGINI ADVENTURE TOURS
LIVE WITH SPIRIT AND LEAVE A LEGACY
The Kokoda Track, nestled in the rugged terrain of Papua New Guinea, stands as a symbol of resilience and bravery in Australian military history. Known for its challenging path through dense jungles, the Kokoda Track is most notably linked to the Kokoda Campaign of 1942, a defining moment during World War II that shaped the identity of a nation. Trekking the Kokoda Trail is more than just a physical challenge; it is a spiritually enriching journey that profoundly transforms adventurers. Many who undertake this trek find themselves astonished by the ways in which their lives change after navigating the iconic trail. Local Jerrabomberra resident, Ken Selu and his family have long been deeply rooted in the land, as guardians of the people traversing the Kokoda Track corridor for generations. Ken and his brother Lawrence Selu; family’s involvement with the Kokoda Track began with their great-great-grandfather, a respected clan elder and warrior Kekeve Selu. His leadership and bravery established the family as prominent figures in the area, laying a foundation of respect and authority that would be carried through subsequent generations. Today, Ken and Lawrence Selu, sons of the esteemed Hon Vovovi J. Selu, own and run Niugini Adventure Tours. Kekeve Selu, em-
braced Christianity and played a crucial role during World War II. As a carrier, he supported the Allied forces in the Kokoda Campaign, a contribution that extended beyond the war itself. After the conflict, Kekeve established a trade store that became a central hub for the community and played a pivotal role in constructing the Kagi Air Strip, enhancing connectivity and economic opportunities for the region. Kekeve’s son, the late Vovovi James Selu, would then later continue the family’s tradition of service and leadership. The Selu family’s vision aligns with a common goal: to maintain one Kokoda Track and one Papua New Guinea. Their commitment to this vision highlights the importance of unity and shared objectives in preserving the track’s legacy while fostering development and opportunity. Their story is a testament to their enduring guardianship of the Kokoda Track, blending tradition with modern stewardship. Their efforts ensure that the track remains a vital part of Papua New Guinea’s heritage, honouring the past while looking forward to a promising future for the region and its people.
HISTORY OF KOKODA
In July 1942, as the threat of Japanese invasion loomed over Port Moresby, the Kokoda Track became the focal point of the Kokoda Campaign, crucial for defending Australian territory.
The Japanese invasion began on July 21, leading to intense battles primarily fought by the 39th Australian Infantry Battalion against the challenging jungle terrain. A pivotal moment came in August when Australian forces recaptured Kokoda, marking the start of a pushback against the Japanese, which concluded the campaign by November 1942.
The Kokoda Campaign is a significant chapter in Australian military history, symbolizing resilience and determination. It has left a legacy in the national consciousness, transforming the Kokoda Track into a symbol of Australian identity. Today, trekking the trail offers adventurers a chance to connect with this history, making their journey a profound historical pilgrimage.
"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them."

Searching for an extreme challenge to take her mind off the cancer, she decided to walk the Kokoda Track with friends and family. Turning to Ken and his team at Niugini Adventure Tours, she began to work toward this seemingly impossible goal.
“At that point, I had barely even been bushwalking, so this was a very challenging task! After five months of training, I completed the trek in eight days in May of 2008, one year after diagnosis. What an amazing trip and what amazing people we had along with us. When people ask me how it was, I say incredible – incredibly hard, incredibly rewarding and incredibly beautiful.” Her story has inspired many and is a testament to the strength, courage, and determination that can emerge when
embarking on a curated Kokoda journey.
Groups have walked the trail to raise awareness and funds for numerous charities and foundations, with some reaching their goals and raising around $50,000.

VIA DOLCE PASTICCERIA
A slice of Italy in the heart of Canberra City
CHI MANGIA BENE, VIVE BENE
THOSE WHO EAT WELL, LIVE WELL
Walking into Via Dolce Pasticcaria feels like stepping into a small corner of Europe, right in the heart of Canberra. The charming marble tables and the soothing melodies of Italian classical music set the scene, offering more than just a café—it’s an experience. It's easy to forget you're in Canberra as you're transported to the warmth and authenticity of Italy.
One of the many unique aspects of Via Dolce is its deeply rooted family tradition. On any given weekend, you're likely to see three generations of the family working together, which is a testament to their commitment to this family-run business, now celebrating 11 years of success this November.
The operation is not only a reflection of their passion but also of their consistency—two elements that have defined their brand, always providing great value for money.
A TAVOLA NON SI INVECCHIA MAI
AT THE TABLE, ONE NEVER GROWS OLD
We had the pleasure of sitting down with Joe, who shared the incredible story behind Via Dolce. It all started with his father, Domenic, who ventured into Canberra’s hospitality scene in 1972, opening a supermarket as a 24-year-old. This lifelong dedication has now evolved into Via Dolce, with a team of talented pastry chefs creating mouthwatering treats and a range of Italian delights. From the moment you walk in, the warm, homely energy envelops you, drawing you in for a unique culinary experience.
The striking pink and purple floral designs on Via Dolce's iconic cups have become a staple on Instagram stories, instantly recognisable without the need for tagging. This attention to detail is carried through in every aspect of the café, from the oldfashioned, classic service—complete with waiters and waitresses in traditional Italian attire—to the range of offerings available throughout the day, from breakfast to late-night desserts.
Via Dolce offers far more than just the delicious gelato you might see through the windows on
Bunda Street. Step inside, and you'll be greeted by an extensive, luxurious patisserie display that tempts with a variety of indulgent treats.
As you venture further, you might catch a glimpse of the staff twirling dough as they prepare pizza— a mesmerising sight that makes you feel part of something special. The pizza dough recipe, a cherished family secret dating back to 1998, remains unchanged. If you're inspired, you can even take some dough home to create your own Via Dolce pizza experience.
Whether you're there for a casual date night or simply to soak up the atmosphere, Via Dolce is the place to be. As Canberra's nights grow longer, this hotspot offers everything from authentic Italian dinners to decadent desserts and a refreshing Aperol Spritz. The Nonna's biscuits at the front counter are a musttry—a beautifully balanced blend of lemon, perfectly paired with their famous hot chocolate.
For dessert lovers, Via Dolce has plenty to offer, including the option to create your own crepes and waffles, and the unique affogato coffee poured over a scoop of gelato in a cocktail glass, served with the option of a shot of Frangelico, Baileys or Amaretto. You can even take your treats to go, packed into their iconic boxes, perfect for sharing a slice of Italy with friends and family.
Joe explains that the true test of any gelato shop is its pistachio gelato—the most expensive to make, and one that should contain real pistachio pieces for that authentic crunch. It's these small but important details that set Via Dolce apart from the rest. Another crowd favorite is their Pizza Bread Bowl, where a rich, savory sauce seeps into a dough shell, creating a modern twist on the Italian scarpetta tradition— the act of scooping up the last bits of sauce with bread.

3 QUEANBEYAN OUTDOOR DINING HOTSPOTS
Did you know—the tradition of al fresco dining dates back to ancient times? People used to enjoy communal meals outdoors, often as part of celebrations. Today, we don’t need a special occasion to dine in the open air—especially in Queanbeyan, where we have some amazing family-friendly options with beautiful scenery and diverse, delicious food.
Best Tacos Around at Cartel
Introducing Cartel Tacos, nestled under a sprawling pepper tree with a serene view of the river—truly a haven for those seeking an outdoor dining experience in Queanbeyan.
Cartel is owned by Anna Petridis from Patissez café, which became renowned for freak shakes and loaded tacos. It comes as no surprise then, that the tacos at Cartel are bigger than usual.
The tortillas are also cooked the traditional way; by dipping in oil and then grilling—and word on the street is that the tacos here are the most comparable to those in Mexico!
The fiery flavours will warm you right up; the chilli and garlic butter king prawn taco packs a punch, while the Birria and pork shoulder tacos are pure comfort eats. End on a sweet note with fresh, hot churros tossed in cinnamon sugar.
With an army of gas heaters on standby, you can be sure that the fiesta continues even on cooler days! There are also Cartel Oodies on hand for both adults and kids to rug up in.
Open Thursday-Sunday.

A Taste of Italy at PRONTO by Trecento
No al fresco dining list would be complete without an Italian addition. After all, the term “al fresco” originates from Italian and literally translates to “in the fresh air” or “outdoors.”
Owned and operated by the Kosteski family, including brothers Josh and Jon Kosteski, and Melinda Kosteski who is married to Josh, PRONTO is the sister restaurant to Trecento Manuka.
Housed in a 1930s building and with a simple ethos of good food made for sharing with loved ones, PRONTO offers a warm and inviting atmosphere that feels just like home. Their al fresco hideaway is sheltered enough to protect you from the elements, while still allowing you to enjoy the fresh air while tucking into some classic Italian pasta dishes.
PRONTO offers gnocchi three ways; della terra with mushrooms and a chilli-burnt-butter sauce, napoletana and al tartufo with truffle cream.
Of course, who could ever go past a ragu? At PRONTO, the slow-cooked lamb ragu absolutely shines with rigatoni, a robust pasta made to hold onto rich, flavourful sauces.
PRONTO also boasts a 300-year-old Neapolitan wood-fired pizza recipe that was actually learned in Naples with the AVPN, an association that regulates and protects authentic Neapolitan pizza globally!
Finish the night off with a classic tiramisu, made in-house from a generations-old recipe.

Casual dining at historic Campbell & George
Well before 2019, when Campbell & George first opened, this venue already had a firm place in the hearts of locals. The site was home to the historic Queanbeyan Bowls Club, which had been active since 1934. What is now the beer garden was once what the police horses called home.
Today, Campbell & George still has a strong local flavour that centres around this outdoor space, nicknamed ‘The Paddock’. It is a lovely and vibrant open-air setting that’s suitable for families, friends and work colleagues.
On those pleasant spring evenings, settle in with
some comfort food from the bistro. The Campbell & George team recommend a chargrilled rump steak with a glass of red wine—or something from their classic pizza or pasta offerings.
For those who run on the cold side, don’t worry— you’ll feel downright cosy indoors when the fire is alight, especially on Thursday and Saturday nights when there is live music.

CAFFE AL LAGO
GUNGAHLIN'S LITTLE SLICE OF TUSCANY
Nestled by the picturesque Yerrabi Pond in Gungahlin, Caffe al Lago is not just another café; it’s a vibrant homage to the flavours of Italy, beautifully intertwined with the warm essence of local community life. The brainchild of Dragan Bektesh and his wife, Natalija, this charming establishment brings a little slice of Tuscany to Canberra, promising an experience that delights the senses.
Dragan and Natalija’s journey began during their honeymoon in Italy, where they spent the majority of their time immersed in the country’s culinary delights. As Dragan wandered the enchanting streets of Florence, sandwich in hand, he marvelled at the distinctive quality of food that Italy had to offer. Inspired by the iconic All’Antico Vinaio establishment, where long lines of up to 1 hour wait times form daily for a taste of their legendary panini, he pondered why similar offerings were scarce in Canberra.
Dragan thought how he could improve this concept and realised he could bake each sandwich individually from scratch from a small lot of dough, as opposed to working from large slabs of pre-made bread as they did in Florence. Thus, the idea for Caffe al Lago was born. This point of difference is what makes Al Lago a truly unique culinary experience not to be missed!
The café’s name translates to “coffee by the lake,” a nod to the couple's years living above what is now their vibrant sandwich shop. Each summer, they gazed out at the scenic view from their apartment, dreaming of a cozy spot to enjoy quality coffee and delightful bites. While the initial vision was for a quaint coffee shop, their Italian adventures ignited a passion for creating freshly baked sandwiches, setting the stage for a unique culinary experience.
At Caffe al Lago, every sandwich is a work of art, baked individually from scratch using a special slow-fermented dough. This method not only enhances flavour but also makes it more accessible for those with mild gluten intolerances. The standout sandwich is the Pistachio Mortadella, a sumptuous
CAFFE AL LAGO
blend of pistachio, thinly sliced mortadella, pesto, and stracciatella, each bite delivering a heavenly experience.
Another crowd favourite is the special sandwich, featuring fresh mozzarella, prosciutto, tomato, and basil, finished with an aged balsamic glaze. For those feeling adventurous, the café encourages customization, allowing guests to curate their perfect sandwich. Other crowd favorites on offer include an array of pastries and cakes, such as their bestseller Ferrero Rocher Raffaello cakes, as well as premium coffee.
Dragan is a third-generation baker who honed his skills watching his father and grandfather craft baked goods such as their well-renowned Burek in their family bakery. This upbringing ignited his love for baking, which has found a new expression at Caffe al Lago. Throughout his baking and early hospitality career, Dragan has successfully brought his freshly made burek to nearly 36 IGAs and coffee shops across Australia, all while his father continues to operate their family bakery in Europe. Alongside the café’s delicious sandwiches, Dragan also offers a selection of his famous Burek, a homage to his heritage. Available fresh every morning, these flaky delights come in a variety of flavours that stray from the classic cheese, spinach, and meat combinations, offering unique made-to-order varieties like cherry and ricotta, apple and cinnamon, pizza, and even ham and cheese.
Dragan fondly recalls the reaction of his father when he first introduced Nutella burek—his father didn't speak to him for a month!—but the kids absolutely love it. With over 15 years in the hospitality industry and a growing presence in local markets and supermarkets, Dragan has transformed his dream into reality.
CAFFE AL LAGO
Beyond the tantalizing food offerings, Caffe al Lago is a community hub. Dragan fondly recalls a touching moment when a loyal customer who had bought a sandwich ten days in a row returned after a brief absence, revealing his wife had given birth and he was back for more sandwiches, this time for both of them. This heartwarming exchange solidified Dragan's belief in the café’s role within the community.
The ambiance at Caffe al Lago is enhanced by the harmonious partnership between Dragan and Natalija, who manages the café’s social media presence and administrative duties, all while operating a hair studio in their apartment above the café. It’s the perfect retreat for those seeking a coffee break and a fresh hairstyle.
As the seasons change, Dragan plans to extend opening hours to accommodate the rising popularity of the café and its delicious offerings. With aspirations to venture into catering and provide mini sandwiches and grazing platters, Caffe al Lago is poised for growth while maintaining its commitment to quality.
For those eager to live the hype, a visit to Caffe al Lago promises an unforgettable experience by the lake. Follow them on Instagram @caffeallago to stay updated on their latest creations and community events. With its authentic flavours and heartfelt service, Caffe al Lago is a testament to the beauty of bringing a little slice of Italy to Gungahlin.

In the world of interior design, few names resonate with the warmth and creativity found in Corabe, the brainchild of mother-daughter duo Robyn and Abbey. Their brand is more than just a name; it represents a heartfelt collaboration that reflects their family’s essence and shared passion for transforming spaces.
THE CORABE JOURNEY
The pair began their journey in Queanbeyan, bonding over their similarities and passions in all things interior, travel and fashion.
The name Corabe is a beautiful amalgamation of both Robyn and Abbey’s identities, symbolizing their unique partnership. “We were inspired to create a name that reflects our family collaboration,” Abbey explains. “While it holds personal meaning, it has no official definition, allowing Corabe to grow and evolve with our vision.”
Robyn’s love for interiors began with home renovations, each project a canvas for her artistry. She has completed numerous home renovations, transforming, and stylings for the Queanbeyan and wider regions. Naturally Abbey, growing up in this vibrant environment, would soon follow in her mother’s footsteps, cultivating her own passion for design. Together, their experiences have fostered a
lifestyle where curating and collecting furniture and décor is second nature. This common desire, has further empowered the pair to curate their shared visions and bring them to life for not only their business, but for their customers. “Our journey has shaped Corabe into a platform for expressing our creativity,” Robyn adds.
The journey of Corabe has only strengthened Robyn and Abbey’s bond as mother and daughter. “It’s been a continuous learning experience,” Robyn reflects. “We bring different perspectives and experiences to the table, which complement each other beautifully.” Through their collaboration, they’ve learned to embrace each other’s strengths, creating something that genuinely reflects their combined talents.
Since launching Corabe, Robyn and Abbey have experienced several proud moments. From their first warehouse launch in Queanbeyan to the grand opening of their physical store in Batemans Bay, each milestone has been a highlight. “Opening our Batemans Bay store was particularly significant,” Abbey reflects, “as it allowed us to share our vision with the community and expand our reach.” Though one of the most
exhilarating aspects of their business is the process of sourcing unique pieces from Northern India. “We hand-select treasures from warehouses and yards, often reclaimed from historic homes,” Abbey shares. Each piece is chosen in its original state, with a clear vision of transformation that aligns with Corabe’s aesthetic. The anticipation of envisioning potential, followed by the rewarding transformation, brings new life to each item rich with history and character.
“Every corner is thoughtfully curated to connect visitors with pieces that tell a story. We want our customers to unwind and escape the everyday hustle".

They incorporate this philosophy into their products by using calming colours and thoughtful finishes that evoke a serene atmosphere. Focusing their product line on this concept fosters emotional connections with your living space, leading to increased satisfaction and dopamine regulation by simply existing in your own home.
Thoughtful home design featuring calming colors and finishes, not only enhances the perceived value of your interior but also encourages cross-styling opportunities. As wellness and self-care become less of a “trend” and gain prominence as a lifestyle, Corabe invites their community to enhance this serene lifestyle that will remain a timeless theme for customers to enjoy.

QUEANBEYAN'S HOUSE PRICES ARE THE TALK OF THE TOWN
JIL HOGAN
| ALLHOMES
After two consecutive quarters of growth, Canberra’s brief house price recovery has stumbled, with median house prices once again going down.
The Domain House Price Report for the September quarter shows an almost $14,000, or 1.2 per cent, decrease, bringing the median Canberra house price down to $1.08 million –$92,000 below its peak in mid-2022.
“Canberra’s house prices are the furthest from their peak among all capital cities, and have only recovered a third of their previous losses,” said Domain chief of research and economics, Dr Nicola Powell. And the news is worse for units.
Canberra’s median unit price has now recorded
its fourth quarterly decline, marking the longest stretch of consecutive falls on record and the sharpest drop since December 2022. The sustained weakness over the past four quarters has erased the recovery seen in 2023, pushing the median unit price to a new low this cycle of $565,288.
The median unit price is now $65,000, or 10.3 per cent, below the September 2023 record.
“This recent decline has caused Canberra to lose its position as the second-most expensive capital city for units, slipping to fourth place behind Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne,” said Powell.
“Despite the quarterly decline, the median house price has still managed a marginal annual gain
Queanbeyan house prices rose by nearly 10 per cent over the past year, while Canberra overall saw a marginal gain of 0.8 per cent. Photo: Jamila Toderas season.
of 0.8 per cent.” While Canberra’s house price growth is low, it’s a very different story just over the border. Queanbeyan has recorded an impressive annual median house price growth rate of 9.8 percent, significantly outpacing the capital.
Queanbeyan East sits not far behind at 9.2 per cent. Agent Darren Bennett from Ian McNamee and Partners said that Queanbeyan historically mirrored Canberra’s market movements, so the figures were quite surprising. He said affordability and the cost of living, combined with high interest rates, might have driven some buyers towards Queanbeyan.
“You can still find one-bedroom homes under $300,000 and two-bedders under $400,000 in
Queanbeyan, but living here, you can still easily access the ACT from a work perspective,” he said.
Homes near the Queanbeyan Town Centre come with much higher price tags, with the walkability factor appealing to many buyers.
“For the inner-city properties, we can get pretty high numbers through [at open homes],” said Bennett. “So, if you want to live around the town park, you could be paying $1 million to $1.5 million for a fairly conservative home.
“But you can park the car, walk to town, grab a beer or something to eat, and then be able to walk back home.”
On top of the “country living with city benefits” factor, which attracts many, Bennett said more people saw the lifestyle advantages that Queanbeyan offered, including the transformed restaurant scene and more local events.
And while it was typically Canberrans residing in southern suburbs who were more likely to dip their toe into living across the border, according to Bennett, Queanbeyan’s property market has also seen a noticeable increase in interest from buyers previously based in Canberra’s north.
He’s also noted more buyers who moved to the south coast, and are downsizing and relocating back to Queanbeyan, and favouring single-level properties where they can age in place.
The Domain report shows that Queanbeyan as a region recorded an annual median house price increase of 6 per cent, outperforming every region in the ACT. In comparison, Belconnen saw an annual increase of just 1.7 per cent, while Gungahlin experienced a decline of 1 per cent.
Woden Valley performed better, with an increase of 4.6 per cent, while other Canberra regions, such as Molonglo and South Canberra, saw declines of 11.8 per cent and 1.4 per cent, respectively.
On a national level, combined capital city house prices have risen for the seventh consecutive quarter, while unit prices have experienced their
sixth consecutive increase, both reaching new record highs. But the pace of these gains is slowing significantly.
The latest figures indicate house price increases occurred at a rate roughly three times slower than in the previous quarter, marking the weakest growth since March 2023.
In contrast, the slowdown in unit price gains is more gradual, showing only a marginal decrease in growth compared to the previous quarter. But it still marks the weakest outcome of the growth cycle to date.
“This deceleration can be attributed to affordability constraints, primarily stemming from wages not keeping pace with rising property prices, compounded by the ongoing cost of living crisis,” said Powell.
“As prices continue to climb, the buyer pool becomes increasingly limited. Consequently, as purchasing power diminishes, buyers find it more challenging to remain competitive, leading to a further slowdown in activity. This combination of factors has left households feeling significant financial pressure, and we’re seeing this play out in subdued house price growth.”

NOMA DESIGNER HOMEWARES
INSPIRED BY MOVEMENT, DEFINED BY LUXURY
A CONVERSATION WITH FOUNDER LIDIA MADAFFARI
In 2021, Lidia Madaffari turned her passion for interiors and natural materials into a vision for timeless design. With a background in joinery design and a fascination with marble, Lidia founded Noma Co., a luxury brand creating enduring pieces that elevate spaces with sophistication. Here, Lidia shares her journey, inspiration, and vision for the future of Noma Co.
When asked about the name Noma, Lidia reflects on its roots in the word "nomadic," meaning to wander. “Our designs are inspired by living spaces all around the world,” she explains. This global influence is woven into the DNA of Noma Co., creating pieces that speak to diverse styles while maintaining a universal appeal.
CRAFTING LUXURY THROUGH EXPERIENCE
Lidia’s background in joinery design plays a pivotal role in her approach to furniture. “We’ve worked with countless clients and interior designers, giving us the privilege of seeing a wide variety of homes. This inspires us to design pieces that customers would love to invest in,” she says. For Lidia, design is a balance between innovation and functionality, crafting pieces that are as practical as they are luxurious.
Every Noma Co. piece is meticulously selected for its design and materiality. “I look for design elements that are on-trend while considering how
colors and shapes will complement spaces,” Lidia shares. At the heart of the collection is natural marble, chosen for its unique veining and ability to make a statement in any setting. “The luxury and individuality of each slab speak for themselves.”
Opulent furniture design is central to Noma Co.’s ethos. “To me, it’s about creating pieces that transform a space and feel timeless,” Lidia explains. Her philosophy combines traditional craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics, producing designs that feel both personal and enduring.
COLLABORATION & CREATIVITY
One standout partnership for Noma Co. was with The Cordony Kitchen for their Italian Summer Cooking Classes. Lidia recalls, “When I launched our plates, I thought of Amanda Cordony, a food editor for Australian House and Garden Magazine. Her response was amazing, and when she planned her masterclasses, she reached out to see if Noma would sponsor the event.”
Noma provided a range of marble plates, bowls, and dishes, which Amanda styled to perfection. “Her brother, Steve Cordony, the style editor for Belle Magazine, brought it all together on the day,” Lidia says, highlighting how collaboration and presentation enhance the experience of Noma Co.’s pieces.
CUSTOM CREATIONS & ACCESSABLE LUXURY
Custom design is another cornerstone of Noma Co.’s offerings. “We love the process of creating something unique for a client’s space,” Lidia says. From sketches to marble selection and production, each project is a journey. Most custom orders come from interior designers who seek to bring their visions to life. “It’s a long process, but it’s worth it to create that special piece.” While Noma Co. is known for its statement furni-
ture, Lidia emphasises that the brand is not intimidating. “We launched smaller homeware pieces to engage customers who may not have the space for larger pieces or are just beginning to explore luxury design,” she says. This thoughtful approach ensures that Noma Co. appeals to a broad audience while maintaining its high standards of quality.
ADVICE FOR DESIGN ENTHUSIASTS
For those looking to incorporate distinctive pieces into their home décor, Lidia offers simple advice: “Choose pieces that speak to you and complement your space. A well-crafted item can transform a room and become a lasting part of your story.”
From opulent marble tables to curated homewares, Noma Co. embodies the perfect blend of luxury, craftsmanship, and accessibility. With an eye on global inspiration and a heart rooted in timeless design, Lidia
LOOKING AHEAD
Madaffari is redefining how we interact with furniture and homewares.
As for the future, Lidia is excited to expand Noma Co.’s material palette. “We’re exploring the use of glass, metals, and timbers to create even more exciting pieces,” she reveals. A new collection, launching early next year, will push creative boundaries by reimagining furniture pieces typically not crafted in marble.
