CARTA AUSTRAL

Teresa Aninat toma la disposición de los planetas en el estrecho de Magallanes el día 20 de octubre de 1520, momento del encuentro de dos mundos. Se dice que Fernando de Magallanes viajó con un astrólogo y le encargó consultar a los astros a modo de guía. Para analizar aquel paisaje celeste Aninat recurrió al astrólogo Javier Ibacache, realizando lecturas de cuatro cartas astrales. Tras esto viajó al estrecho llevando consigo unas piezas en hierro que reproducían los aspectos –distancias angulares que existen entre dos o más planetas– de las cartas astrales consultadas. Estas piezas las sumergió en las aguas del lugar, llevando a lo profundo lo que alguna vez estuvo sobre el cielo. Cae la noche y la artista deja una pieza que recuerda un antiguo instrumento astronómico, homenaje a los esfuerzos de los navegantes del estrecho.

AUSTRAL CHART

Teresa Aninat takes the disposition of the planets in the Strait of Magellan on October 20, 1520, moment of the meeting of two worlds. It is said that Ferdinand Magellan traveled with an astrologer and commissioned him to consult the stars as a guide. To analyze that celestial landscape, Aninat appealed to the astrologer Javier Ibacache, reading four astral charts. After this she traveled to the strait taking with her some iron pieces that reproduced the aspects –angular distances that exist between two or more planets– of the astral charts consulted. These pieces were submerged in the waters of the place, taking deep what was once above the sky. Night falls and the artist leaves a piece that recalls an ancient astronomical instrument, a tribute to the efforts of the navigators of the strait.
