I HAVE BEEN PART of DSMC from 2019 to 2021.

If I may illustrate my involvement in this apostolic group, I was a ‘cracked pot’ who committed a lot of mistakes. To my surprise, God used my brokenness in order to prepare me to become a better person. I believe that, in his hands, nothing goes to waste. I am not a good leader; I am a silent type of person; and besides, I am not into social media communication. However, God challenged me through this apostolate. “Do I want a breakthrough in my pastoral formation?’ If yes, I should not avoid shaking. I must not be afraid of showing my brokenness. Instead, I should go out of my comfort zone. I should do the things I have never done before and never stop learning. I should be willing to “die” for my ministry.

One of the most obvious challenges in DSMC (especially during the pandemic) is to livestream liturgical celebrations with good quality in terms of content, video, and audio. With this demand, we should therefore equip ourselves with skills and knowledge in order to produce quality livestreaming that meets the viewers’ expectations. Precisely, it was not easy for me. However, praise the Lord because He extended His invisible hands to prepare and guide me as the DSMC Coordinator. Through the help of the brothers in DSMC and in the Studentate, I knew I was in good hands. This brought joy and growth to my pastoral formation. Why?

Firstly, my involvement in DSMC taught me how to be humble and to be childlike who is willing to be formed. Twelve-year journey in formation made me realize that I am just a little part of the Order, and I am nothing without mercy of God and the community. The practice of the four pillars of Dominican life should be integrated faithfully. In this case, the main purpose of the apostolic group is to prepare us before we engage in the wider pastoral ministry. For this reason, the best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today.

Secondly, my involvement in DSMC helped me fix my brokenness. There would be no opening for His grace to come in and fill my life without this breakthrough in my pastoral formation. Indeed, when God calls us, He will prepare us as well.

Therefore, I would like to express my gratitude to God, the DSMC, and the community for the ministries entrusted to me. At the end of the day, its challenges and success have transformed into perseverance and a greater blessing to me more than ever.

Media apostolate group launches DSMC bootcamps

THE CATHOLIC CHURCH continuously adapts to new technology to preach the Gospel to everyone. In line with this impetus, She opens Her arms to train Catholics on how to responsibly use media by imparting relevant skills and knowledge in media literacy, media asset training, and creative content production for the sake of the proclamation of the Gospel to as many people as possible.

Dominican Students’ Media Center (DSMC) is an apostolic group of the student-brothers in Dominican Studentate which exists to help the Church in proclaiming the Gospel through various means of social communication. Since the pandemic, the need for preaching through new media in digital form has become essential to encourage and give hope to the faithful who were confronted by struggles brought about by the pandemic. The need for the people who produce quality creative content and to operate new media platforms is urgent. Therefore, DSMC deemed it necessary to provide relevant training to all student-brothers as livestreaming operators, cameramen, video editors, and drone operators.

This Formation Year 2022-2023, DSMC scheduled various training programs which were dubbed as DSMC Bootcamps. For the first

term, four of which were implemented. First, there was a continual skills updating program for livestreaming and camera operators. With the assistance of DSMC members, student-brothers were assigned per week at the DSMC livestream booth to have a first-hand experience in using the livestreaming software as well as in operating the cameras. The assigned brothers are in-charge of livestreaming the rosary, lauds, and conventual Mass in the morning. Later in the evening, they also livestream the Office of Readings and vespers.

Aside from the student-brothers, some altar servers of Santo Domingo Parish are also being tapped from time to time as volunteers in the DSMC booth. Some of the altar servers have already been assigned to livestream during novenas to the different Dominican saints

ShortCat: DSMC Continues Online Catechetical Program

“HI! WELCOME sa ShortCat ang inyong online companion for bite-sized catechesis!”, says the ShortCat intro which explains its nomenclature – it is a short catechism. It aims to provide catechetical inputs sourced from the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the Sacred Scriptures, and other Church documents through a three to five-minute video for Catholics online.

There is an adage that says, “You cannot love what you do not know”. For the faithful to appreciate and love the faith, they must first be instructed and be enlightened by what they believe. Because of this, the student-brothers thought of simple ways to explain the mysteries, dogmas, and doctrines of faith in short and simple terms for the people. Launched in 2019, ShortCat was spearheaded by now Rev. Mervin G. Lomague, OP as director and editor, and Br. Joenner Paulo L. Enriquez, OP as host. It began as a weekly program uploaded every Sunday through DSMC’s Facebook Page and DSMC Studio’s YouTube Channel. It premiered its first episode “Ano ang Credo?” on August 21, 2019, piloting its twenty-three-episode season, which

was followed by a series on the Articles of Faith, Sacraments and concluding with the Simbang Gabi special series on December 23, 2019. This formation year 2022-2023, the ShortCat videos delved into topics about the importance of physical attendance in holy mass, exemplary Filipino Dominicans, and notable events in the Catholic liturgical calendar such as the La Naval festivities.

ShortCat was well-received by its viewers, especially catechists, religious teachers, and even catechetical commissions of different dioceses throughout the country. Selected episodes were used by the different parishes and schools such as the University of Santo Tomas. Currently, ShortCat has uploaded fifty-three episodes in over four different seasons, fifteen of which are from the current season. The project remains and continues to be one of the student-brothers’ avenues for preaching and evangelization in the digital age, through social media engagements, collaborations, and exposure. BR. The said program was facilitated by Br. John Rheed M. Caturza, OP, whose “Peregrino” video received a Special Citation from the 41st Catholic Mass Media Awards last 2019. He trained the brothers in using Adobe Photoshop photo editing software, Adobe Premiere Pro video editing software, and FL Studio 20 music software applications. A day-long bootcamp on Publication Management and Layout was led by Br. Eugene Dominic V. Aboy, OP, the previous Editor-in-chief of The Varsitarian, the official student publication of the University of Santo Tomas.

DAMAYAN 2022 reaches out to 321 families

FOR THE SECOND time, the Dominican student-brothers conducted the annual Damayan Christmas outreach on December 23, 2022, at the UST Angelicum College Gym. A total of 321 families coming from the less-privileged sector living in barangays around the vicinity of Santo Domingo Church were each given a gift package in a pail containing noche buena goods as well as rice and other commodities, which came through the generosity of various donors and gracious benefactors who showed their support to this noble endeavour.

One of the noteworthy highlights of the program was the cooperation of the Dominican student-brothers, the lay partners and collaborators coming from KADAUPAN and MUKHA AD, and the Basic Ecclesial Community (BEC) leaders of Santo Domingo Parish, who generously gave their time and effort in helping the student-brothers in various capacities: from visiting the barangays and giving of claim stubs, to the preparation of the gift packs and finally, in assisting in their distribution on the day of the event.

The program started with a prayer led by Br. Denver Marx B. Colegado, OP, KADAUPAN

Coordinator and the Overall Head of Damayan 2022. This was followed by a short opening remarks given by the Director of Pastoral Formation and Parochial Vicar, Rev. Fr. Lauro G. De Dios, OP. In his address, he highlighted the true essence of Christmas that, more than the giving of gifts, it is the coming here on Earth of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the God with us.

To ensure an orderly distribution of gift packs as well as in observance of protocols, the families from Barangay Santo Domingo were the first to be accommodated from 8:30 AM. This was immediately followed by the families from Barangay Tatalon from 9:00 AM. The shrine personnel, parking attendants and vendors around Santo Domingo Church were given the gift packs in the afternoon of the same day.

The DAMAYAN 2022 is a project of the whole Dominican Studentate, with the members of KADAUPAN and their lay affiliates at the helm. The said program envisions to reach out to those at the margins of society and through the charitable act of gift giving, showing solidarity with them which is indeed the true essence of Christmas. KADAUPAN gathers for face-to-face General Assembly

THE KADAUPAN General Assembly was held last December 3, 2022 at KADAUPAN office at the Dominican Studentate. In attendance were the KADAUPAN student-brothers and lay affiliates.

The gathering had a simple aim of having a get-together with the lay affiliates and informing them of the plans for the second semester, which were the faith sharing, Damayan 2022 and possible medical mission.

The Story of a Scholar Turned Lay Volunteer

ucation, I certainly would not graduate from college if not for the help of that scholarship given by generous benefactors through KADAUPAN.

I have always thought before that being chosen as a scholar of KADAUPAN was just a “lucky” part of my life. But looking back, I now realize that there is no such thing as a coincidence. Apart from the scholarship, I believe God placed me in this group so that I would be spiritually nourished. It was the will of God that my spiritual foundation would be built through the preaching of the sons and daughters of St. Dominic.

The general assembly also elected Ms. Razzel Columbres as the new lay coordinator and Ms. Mercy Colitz as lay secretary.

After the assembly, the KADAUPAN members all joined the Lakbay Buhay Advent Recolletion 2022 at the shrine. They were also in-charge of distributing the food for the simple agape held after the said recollection. BR.

Tradition, Celebration, Gratitude: The Return of KADAUPAN La Naval Celebration

WHO WOULD have thought that on one lazy afternoon, when I was in my third year in high school, one KADAUPAN scholar chose to hang out with us and asked us if we could come and try to take an exam for a scholarship program in Santo Domingo Church?

From then on, my spiritual journey in the walls of the said church has begun. As a poor student, whose parents did not really believe in ed-

I have been provided with a Dominican education as I studied and graduated from Angelicum College (now UST Angelicum College) wherein Theology was part of the curriculum. The talks and spiritual formation given by KADAUPAN were also very helpful. Through KADAUPAN, I learned how to advocate for justice, peace, and care for creation in my own little ways. I have also learned to be content with a simple but spiritually rich life.

Yes, our charitable works may not really overcome all the material and spiritual poverty in the world. But certainly, every seed which we have planted will grow and come to fruition in every soul that KADAUPAN has touched and continues to touch. I also firmly say that I am one of those many souls.

IT IS A GREAT JOY for the whole KADAUPAN family to be able to celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary La Naval de Manila together again this year on October 9, 2022 at the KADAUPAN office at the Dominican Studentate. Such tradition was stopped for two years because of the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The celebration started with a simple lunch generously contributed by the members themselves. While enjoying lunch, the members introduced themselves to each other because this meeting was the first time they encounter one another in person.

After the celebration, KADAUPAN members attended the solemn high Mass which was followed by the grand procession of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary of La Naval de Manila. The return of the KADAUPAN La Naval celebration indeed strengthened the bonds among the members. This activity is also an expression of gratitude and reverence to Our Lady of the Rosary La Naval de Manila, whose patronage we seek as we continue our mission to serve the poor, the forgotten, and the helpless in the community. MUKHA AD welcomes Batch 33

THE MASIGLANG Ugnayan ng mga Kabataang

Hinuhubog sa Anyo ng Anak ng Diyos (MUKHA AD) apostolic group hosted its first ever face-to-face gathering after nearly three years on September 11, 2022 at Dominican Studentate Mezzanine. The newest members of the said apostolic group, Batch 33, were welcomed for the first time, along with the alumni from earlier batches. The opening ceremony began at 1:30 p.m. and drew participants from all around Metro Manila, with the majority coming from Quezon City.

Prior to the “get-to-know-you” activity, which was part of the MUKHA AD’s annual tradition, all apostolic groups of the Dominican Studentate attended the Eucharistic Celebration at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary La Naval de Manila, which was presided by Rev. Fr. Cecilio Vladimir E. Magboo, OP, Master of Students. Rev. Fr. Lauro de Dios, OP, the Director of Pastoral Formation served as the preacher during the Holy Mass. Fr. De Dios’ message resonated a call to everyone that the primary reason for membership is to practice charity towards oneself and neighbor as children of God.

As the activity progressed, the mood became more energetic, and the members, along with the brothers, played bingo with a twist to get to know one another better. The game is made up of attributes and characters that best describe their chosen person.

He also reiterated everyone’s calling to live a holy life. Fr. De Dios reminded each apostolic group of its mission to bring people closer to God by striving to reach the pinnacle of love and compassion. After the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, the event formally began and was hosted by Atty. Raponcel D. Abueg and Br. Michael Angelo D. Dela Rosa, OP, Level one coordinators. The new members joined in prayer led by Br.

Beatrice Lianne Estacio and Ms. Shiela Labor, rendered songs for the intermission number.

Br. Gian Linardo Mari T. Estrella, Overall Coordinator of the Dominican Studentate Pastoral Board (DSPB), gave the closing remarks. In his message, he encouraged the new members to strive to always be present and active in the activities of MUKHA AD in order to strengthen the unity of the group as it continues to fulfill its mission of preaching the truth to all, especially to the youth. The event concluded with a dance to the tune of MUKHA AD theme song performed by all the members.

First session tackles mental health

THE MASIGLANG Ugnayan ng mga Kabataang Hinuhubog sa Anyo ng

Anak ng Diyos (MUKHA AD) marked its first face-to-face session for the Christian Face Program Level One entitled “Man and Mental Health” last October 23,2022 at the mezzanine of the Dominican Studentate. The talk was given live via Zoom by the invited speaker, Ms. Eizaleen B. Fusingan, MA, RPsy, Ram, LPT. Ms. Fusingan focused on the differences of mental distress, which is a short-term sadness and mental disorder which is a long-term mental health problem. She also emphasized the differences of the common mental health problems among Filipinos, such as anxiety, depression, non-suicidal self-injury and suicide by presenting the different symptoms for each illness.

She encouraged the attendees to seek professional help and not to self-diagnose when experiencing symptoms of mental health problems.

Ms. Fusingan also mentioned about the approaches of mental hygiene: preventive, therapeutic and curative. In the preventive approach, environmental factors enable the individual to obtain emotional stability, achieve personal and social adequacy.

The session ended with a group sharing about moving toward goals, specifically on what to stop, continue and start. The first session was attended by the newly recruited Batch 33 together with some alumni.

The month of October was declared by the national government as the Mental Awareness month. MS. YEDDA CHIARINA P. SALVANIA

PST joins ‘Metanoia’: A vocation discernment seminar of DSM

PST revives vocation promotion booth

Incoming postulants attend online recollection with PST

THE DOMINICAN PROVINCE OF THE PHILIPPINES is blessed to have 16 new postulants for the formation year 2022-2023 who were admitted to the Dominican Postulancy in the Convent of St. Albert the Great in Calamba City, Laguna, last November 28 2022.

Prior to their entrance to the Dominican formation, an online recollection was conducted to help them to be spiritually prepared as they embark to another chapter in their life. The recollection, which was held via Zoom, happened last October 29, 2022. Rev. Fr. Carlo Rey C. Canto, OP, the Provincial Promoter of Vocations, spearheaded the activity in collaboration with Pagtugon Sa Tawag (PST).

THE DOMINICAN YOUTH NETWORK (DYN) of the Dominican School Manila (DSM) invited PST to collaborate in holding METANOIA: A Vocation Discernment Seminar with the theme, “Heeding to the Call of the Church for Synod and Camaraderie” last October 22, 2022 via Zoom. The said event was attended by 147 DSM students, both boys and girls, from Grades 10, 11, and 12. The said seminar promoted the Dominican way of life and showed to the participants that there are many paths to holiness. The seminar did not only promote vocation to the priesthood but also to other Dominican vocations. Hence, there were Mr. Joshua Brent Valencia, a DYN representative who served as host and moderator, and Sr. Rosa Casibang, OP from Congregacion de Relegiosas Missionerass de Santo Domingo who discussed about the steps towards becoming an active sister. Br. John Rheed M. Caturza, OP introduced the Dominican priestly vocation and shared his vocation story. Meanwhile, Br. Nico Paolo P. Moron, OP, and Br. Diego Adrianto Halim, OP shared their stories about their journey in the formation, with the latter focusing on the perspective of a professional. Together they showed to the participants that responding to one’s vocation is not an easy journey, yet is worth fighting for. Their stories gave the participants a glimpse of what they will face and what to expect when they finally choose to pursue the Dominican way of life. Hopefully, the life lessons and experiences shared by the brothers will become a source of motivation and inspiration for the participants to live the Dominican way of life in whatever vocation they may take. BR. DIEGO ARIANTO HALIM, OP

VocProm Group goes to St. James Academy, Malabon

ON NOVEMBER 17, 2022, Brs. Johnny Luntungan, OP, Lukas Sabdaningrat, OP, and Melencio P. Garcia, OP went to St James Academy, Malabon City for the school’s vocation festival.

The event started with the praying of the rosary. Then, Rev. Fr. Philip Angelo Garcia from the Diocese of Caloocan delivered a talk about the vocations in the Church. After the talk, the students were divided into boys and girls. The Dominican brothers together with representatives from the diocese and other male congregations, gave a brief overview about their Order or congregation to the male students. Br. Sabdaningrat introduced the Order of Preachers.

After the introductions, the students were given a chance to visit the vocation promotion booths where they could ask questions to the brothers or sisters. The brothers were surprised by the level of the students’ curiosity about the formation in becoming a religious. Hopefully, being present in this vocation festival will help nurture the seeds of vocation in the hearts of students. BR. JOHNNY

THE PAGTUGON SA TAWAG apostolic group revived promoting Dominican vocations through the PST booth at the corridor of Sto. Domingo Church. The PST booth mainly aims to provide information and assistance to those who are interested in joining the Order of Preachers. The booth is open from 9:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m with two PST members manning it. The booth also provides promotional materials such as stampitas, posters and brochures. The said materials are given not only to the prospective candidates but also to all visitors of the booth.

The responses of the Mass-goers toward the booth varied. Some were very appreciative but many seemed indifferent. Some Mass-goers were even reluctant to visit, thinking that the PST was asking for donations. Therefore, at first, there were

doubts from the body to continue this project on the next schedule because the response was not as good as expected. Most of the visitors are not even counted as eligible because of their age (the visitors were mostly kids and lolos and lolas). However, after looking back to the main objective, the group realized that the PST booth is indeed important and relevant in making the Mass-goers become aware and be appreciative of the presence of religious life, specifically the Dominican vocation. Hopefully, the presence of this simple booth will produce a ripple effect, not only in attracting the prospective candidates for Dominican vocation but also in helping people appreciate and faithfully love whatever calling they have received from God.

PST assists in new postulants’ online orientation

Despite the intermittent connection due to “Typhoon Paeng,” eight Filipino brothers from the different provinces were virtually present during the recollection. Fr. Canto led the opening prayer and also delivered the opening remarks. Br. John Rheed M. Caturza, OP, PST Coordinator, served as the emcee and facilitated a simple animation to energize the brothers at the beginning of the recollection. Br. Nico Paolo P. Moron, OP and Br. Robertus Silveriano Raditya Dearbantolo, OP, were the recollection speakers who shared their reflections about their experiences in formation.

Finally, the recollection ended with the word of thanks of Fr. Canto to the PST members who helped organize and make the event successful and fruitful, followed by a closing prayer and final blessing. The organizers then extended their prayers and best wishes to the incoming postulants in order that they may persevere and be faithful in their calling towards becoming future Dominicans. BR. NICO

THE DOMINICAN PROVINCE of the Philippines conducted an online orientation for the incoming postulants of Formation Year 2022-2023. The brothers in Pagtugon Sa Tawag (PST) assisted during the event in collaboration with Fr. Carlo Rey C. Canto, OP, the Provincial Promoter of Vocations, and Fr. Hilario V. Sicat, Jr., OP, the Director of Postulants. The orientation was attended by Fr. Filemon I. de la Cruz Jr., OP, Prior Provincial of the Dominican Province of the Philippines, Fr. Romulo V. Rodriguez, OP, Moderator of Studies, and the new eight Filipino postulants. Br. Melencio P. Garcia, OP, the Promoter of Vocations for Cooperator Brothers, and Fr. Winston Ferdinand F. Cabading, OP, the Assistant to the Director of Postulants for Senior Candidates were also present during the program. The purpose of the orientation is to prepare the incoming postulants before they enter the

Dominican formation by the end of November 2022 and also to provide basic information to their parents about what their sons will undertake in formation. In his opening remarks, Fr. de la Cruz emphasized that those who fall in love and commit themselves to something will no longer count the days, weeks and even years. He said so because one of the topics in the online orientation was the stages of formation.

Br. Diego Ardianto Halim, OP talked about the Order of Preachers and the Dominican Family. Meanwhile, Fr. Sicat gave an orientation about the schedule and activities in the Dominican Postulancy whereas Fr. Rodriguez gave the orientation about study life. The program was indeed successful and we look forward to meeting the new postulants face-to-face.

Alab ng La Naval 2022: Lighting Candles of Steadfast Faith

ON SEPTEMBER 1, 2022, KAPATID launched Alab ng La Naval as part of the La Naval Festivities 2022. The Alab ng La Naval is a novena-candle request. It is an online devotional program of the Dominican Studentate spearheaded by KAPATID and the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary—La Naval de Manila. It aims to foster a more intimate devotion to Our Lady of the Rosary—La Naval de Manila and cater to the devotees who may be hampered by geographical, safety, and health constraints in attending the novenas in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary—La Naval de Manila in person.

Alab ng La Naval was held at the candle area of the Santo Domingo Church at 8:00 pm every day from September 30 to October 8, 2022. The devotees were encouraged to participate in the novena prayers online as the brothers light the candles on their behalf via La Naval de Manila official Facebook page.

In its third year, more than hundreds of people registered and joined the live streaming. Due to health protocols, the “Alab ng La Naval” temporarily replaced the traditional “Besamanto” which was put on hold because of the pandemic.

It is a blessing that even amidst the pandemic, the devotees are not discouraged but remained steadfast in faith. KAPATID wishes to thank the devotees who participated in this activity. BR. HENGKY PADAUNAN,

Sharing the Fruits of Contemplation: Catechesis to the Children of Tatalon

THE POST-PANDEMIC situation gave the faithful a chance to go back and participate in church activities. After more than two years, in which COVID-19 has left people feeling frightened and alone, the faithful can somehow already find solace through the many opportunities to return to the church.

The members of the different Legion of Mary praesidia, which have KAPATID members as their spiritual directors, also felt the same consolation. After two years of online meetings, they can once again conduct their face-to-face meetings in the KAPATID office at the Dominican Studentate. The first face-to-face meeting of each of the three praesidia occurred on November 6, 2022 (Mary, Seat of Wisdom Praesidium) and November 13, 2022 (Mirror of Justice and La Naval Praesidia) and went smoothly. Both the legionaries and the spiritual directors felt God’s blessings that united them all in the sessions.

In the midst of joy and gratitude, there was however a sad realization that the legionaries were decreasing in number. They were scattered due to COVID-19 pandemic. Nonetheless, the resumption of the face-to-face meetings is a testament that God loves us, works for us, and unites us at all times. We partake in His work and share His love by taking this opportunity to have meetings. With the help of the Blessed Virgin Mary, hopefully, we can recover faster and better. BR.

KAPATID strengthens digital presence on social media platforms

WITH THE GOAL of improving the social media presence and engagement of the apostolic group in various social media platforms, the KAPATID launched its own Facebook page and Instagram account on August 7, 2022, the eve of the Solemnity of Saint Dominic de Guzman. Before the launch, only KAPATID has no social media account among the different apostolic groups in the Dominican Studentate. Few of the apostolic group’s activities in the past were also posted in the La Naval de Manila Official Facebook page. Hence, to increase the visibility of KAPATID, the new social media accounts were created.

The new social media page already featured the activities of the apostolic group starting August of this formation year. These include Triduum videos and infographics of memorials, feasts, and solemnities connected to the Blessed Virgin Mary. The activities during the La Naval festivities were also cross-posted.

Four months after they were launched, the combined accounts have a total of around 700 followers. May these new platforms be new venues for the student-brothers to inspire a more fervent devotion to the Blessed Mother. BR. JONAS

ON NOVEMBER 26, 2022, the members of KAPATID, in coordination with Buklodasal Basic Ecclesial Community (BEC) of Santo Domingo Parish, conducted the first session of their monthly catechesis to the children of Brgy. Tatalon, Quezon City. The catechesis aims to spread knowledge about Mother Mary and the Rosary to the children so that they might love her even more as our mediatrix to Jesus, our Lord.

Around 40 children gathered at the covered court of Villa España Phase II at 10 o’clock in the morning. Excitement can be seen in the eyes of the children, not to mention that they were at the venue 30 minutes ahead of the scheduled activity.

The catechesis started by praying the rosary together in Filipino. Although some of the children were not familiar with the basic prayers, they all followed the prayer attentively. It was also a fun-filled day for all the participants as they danced together with the student-brothers.

Br. Jonas P. Mediavilla, OP, the KAPATID Coordinator, then shared his knowledge about Mother

Mary and the Rosary. He also posed questions to the children, to which they, in turn, responded with burning zeal and great enthusiasm. Their spirits did not however remain unappreciated. Those who were able to answer the questions got some rewards to enjoy. The activity ended with simple snacks prepared by the student-brothers.

This activity will be conducted monthly from November 2022 to June 2023. The KAPATID members are grateful for this opportunity to share and receive joy and blessings with them.

See you again, kids, in the coming months! BR. ALFIYANDO

A Journey of Faith: The Pilgrimage to the Coronadas of the Diocese of Antipolo

LAST SEPTEMBER 17, 2022, the members of “Si Kristo Ang PAtutunguhan sa Tulong ng Ina ng Diyos” (KAPATID) of the Dominican Studentate went on a pilgrimage to two Marian Shrines in the Diocese of Antipolo, namely: National Shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage and the Diocesan Shrine of Our Lady of the Abandoned in Marikina. The pilgrimage aimed to foster the members’ devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

In the National Shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage administered by Rev. Fr. Reynante U. Tolentino, the members first attended the Holy Eucharist and then toured around the church. They were able to see the replica image of Our Lady of Antipolo situated inside her camarin (a place where the image is dressed in her new vestment) and some of her old vestments. They also went to the crypt of the late bishops of Antipolo located beneath the church and offered the prayer of “De Profundis” (Prayer for the Dead) in remembrance of their service to the Mother Church.

Right after their tour, the members then headed to the Diocesan Shrine of Our Lady of the Abandoned in Marikina, where they were welcomed by Rev. Fr. Francis Roi Madarang, the Parochial Vicar of the Our Lady of the Abandoned Parish, together with Mr. Kevin Angelo R. Eguia and other members of the Social Communications Committee of the shrine. They were introduced to the image of Our Lady of the Abandoned and its history. Afterwards, they had the opportunity to touch the image while offering their prayers and petitions. The members were then invited to simple snacks in their convent.

Indeed, it was a grace-filled event for the KAPATID members as they learned more about two of the Marian images venerated in the Philippines. No words can express their gratitude to those who helped in making their pilgrimage possible. It definitely inspired them to fulfil their mission in making Jesus Christ known to others through her presence. BR. JUNE EDUARD D. MERCEDE, OP

IMITATING the examples of the disciples who prepared themselves before they went to proclaim the Kingdom of God and heal the sick, all KAPATID members joined the seminar series program in preparation for their apostolic ministry. Every Friday at 8:30 PM, from August 12 until September 2, 2022, four speakers delivered various noteworthy topics in the KAPATID office.

As the first speaker of the seminar series, Br. Vince Stanley B. Ińigo, OP gave a talk about Mary in the Scriptures. He showed significant details about Mary from the Old and New Testaments. Mary is the one whom God has chosen from the beginning to participate in His divine plan. Her humble life appeared clearly in the Gospel of Luke, and her influential role also manifested at the end of the Scriptures, particularly in the Book of Revelation.

In the second week, Br. Mervin G. Lomague OP shared about the history of the devotion to Our Lady of the Rosary—La Naval de Manila. Br. Lomague shared his knowledge and research about Our Lady of the Rosary—La Naval de Manila, starting from the Galleon trade, the battle of La Naval, until the current Filipino devotion to Our Lady.

On August 26, 2022, Br. Eugene Dominic V. Aboy, OP zealously shared his wisdom about the rosary, the powerful spiritual weapon of the faithful, and its relation to the Order of Preachers. Tradition tells that the Blessed Mother herself gave the rosary to St. Dominic in order to combat the Albigensian heresy. Br. Aboy also talked about the series of developments the rosary underwent until how we know it in the present time.

On September 2, 2022, the last day of the seminar series, all KAPATID members learned about spiritual direction and counseling with Br. Roberto S. Castellano Jr., OP as the speaker. This skill is essential because all KAPATID members attend the weekly meetings of various praesidia of the Legion of Mary of Sto. Domingo Parish as spiritual directors. Br. Castellano also explained the ethical and legal concerns of establishing a professional spiritual direction.

Hopefully, this activity will help all the members lead the faithful to a genuine encounter with Christ by fostering true devotion and reverence to the Blessed Virgin Mary. BR. MICHAEL SATRIA ABI DILEYON, OP

Shrine workers undergo catechectical program

ON NOVEMBER 4, 2022, the student-brothers started the catechetical series on the sacraments for shrine employees including the parking attendants at Santo Domingo Church, Quezon City. The program, organized by the Dominican Studentate Pastoral Board in coordination with Santo Domingo Convent, aims to increase the knowledge of the shrine personnel and parking attendants about the Catholic faith, particularly on the sacraments, and to provide an avenue for the student-brothers to enhance their preaching skills. The catechesis would be done every First Friday of the month and would be followed by the Holy Mass.

Br. Pagaduan orients brothers in conducting pre-marriage canonical interviews

TO PREPARE three student-brothers who would embark in the ministry of conducting canonical interviews of couples before they are married in the Church, the Dominican Studentate Pastoral Board (DSPB) organized a Seminar on Pre-Marriage Canonical Interview which was held on August 20, 2022 at Silid Valbuena of the Dominican Studentate.

The speaker was Br. Jeffrey M. Pagaduan, OP, a third year Canon Law student from the Ecclesiastical Faculty of Canon Law of the University of Santo Tomas and who himself has also experienced conducting the said interviews at Sto. Domingo Parish before he was deputed to Sto. Domingo Convent. In the seminar, he discussed about the pertinent canonical provisions in the sacrament of matrimony and explained the procedure in performing the pre-marriage canonical investigation.

Assisting in this parish ministry of pre-marriage canonical interview is part of the pastoral formation program of the student-brothers in the MA/Licentiate level.

SEVEN post-STB student-brothers took the Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (LEPT) administered by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) on October 2, 2022. After fifty-six working days, the results of the said examination were released by PRC. Br. Siddharta B. Chiong, OP and Br. Ian Joeffrey G. Melendres, OP, both having obtained 92.60% rating, landed on the 9th place of LEPT October 2022. Br. Marc Adrian H. de la Peña, OP attained 92.40% rating and was one of the 10th placers of the same examination.

Br. Alexander Constantine N. Seño, OP, Br. Jeffrey M. Pagaduan, OP, Br. Wilhelm B. Boñon, OP and Br. Vince Stanley

B. Iñigo, OP have also successfully made it to the roster of professional teachers.

Currently, Br. Chiong and Br. de la Peña are teaching in UST Angelicum College, Quezon City. Meanwhile, Br. Melendres and Br. Boñon are teaching via online mode at Holy Trinity University in Palawan, a school administered by the Congregation of the Dominican Sisters of St. Catherine of Siena.

Student-brothers who have at least completed their Bachelor in Sacred Theology (STB) ecclesiastical degree from the University of Santo Tomas engage in the teaching ministry as part of their Pastoral Formation Program.

In preparation for the Team Preaching 2023, the Retreat and Recollections Committee ( R and R ) of the Dominican Studentate spearheaded an updating seminar in module-making facilitated by the esteemed professorial lecturer and researcher of the University of Santo Tomas, Prof. Evelyn A. Songco, PhD on November 30, 2022 at the Mezzanine Hall of the Studentate.

Packed with pedagogical knowledge and workshops on teaching skills, the three-hour lecture of Dr. Songco served as an avenue for both senior and young student-brothers to devise systematically their preaching sessions and upgrade their recollection-giving skills. The said updating seminar was part of a series of talks and seminars organized by the R and R Committee that aims to equip the brothers with knowledge and skills as they gradually involve themselves in preaching to people who are seeking to understand their Catholic faith. Beacon of Light and Servant of Christ: My Diaconate Journey

PUNLÂ might seem our simple way of sharing to our friends and collaborators those things we do or accomplish in our apostolates. Looking closer, we see, that it is more than that. Yes, we could be glad and proud to tell others what we do, thinking that we have indeed been achieving a lot of successes in our ministry. But whenever we tell our stories we also open our hearts and uncover the stronger and deeper reasons for doing our work.

IN THE DOMINICAN PROVINCE OF THE PHILIPPINES, those who are ordained as deacons are usually expected to exercise their service for the Church in the Province-administered houses, convents and parishes wherein we have territorial presence. As for my case as a deacon, my superiors and formators assigned me to have my Diaconate exposure in a convent of the Province wherein its apostolic work focuses mainly on two things: formation and educational ministry. Here in the Convent of St. Albert the Great in Calamba City, Laguna, while the pastoral work here of the brothers revolves around the administration of a School (Colegio de San Juan de Letran -Calamba) and assisting in the formation of Pre-novices (Dominican Pre-Novitiate), little has been known and mentioned about their tightly-knit involvement with the local church in the city of Calamba, assisting the Diocesan clergy in the administration of the Sacraments and in providing spiritual support and nourishment to the faithful within their parochial territory.

ing formation in the Province are every now and then limited (because of a valid, formal or practical reason) to pastorally serve those people who only belong to our Dominican institution or community of assignment. Crossing the border or venturing into an uncharted territory outside of our Dominican confines and comfort zones in doing pastoral work may not be a viable or alternative option for some, but in my case, this is exactly what I have to embark on in my Diaconate exposure in order to appreciate what God calls and impels me to do for the ministry of service, of serving God’s people for the building up of His Church in the city of Calamba.

Over and above my pastoral involvement and duties in my own Dominican community in Laguna, this blessing and opportunity to serve in my capacity as an assisting minister to the local Diocesan parish community was indeed an equally enriching and transformative experience for me as a neophyte religious cleric.

That is why, this humble publication, would always embody two forces in our lives as brothers. The first force is centrifugal, i.e., oriented more towards our inner life as a community. In sharing our stories, we grow deeper into understanding of who we are by what we do in our apostolates. We realize that we are not simply working but at the very heart of these activities is an ‘Act of Faith’. We see that our ministry is our ‘prayer in work’ or a ‘prayer-work’.

The second force is centripetal, i.e., oriented more towards others. While Punlâ seems to be packaged as a reporting of events, it is a report animated by faith and our reflection on it. It is, therefore, our way of proclaiming to others the Good News. It is one of the ways by which we respond to our basic duties as Christians.

As we issue this third publication, may I therefore invite our readers as you pore through the pages, “Taste and see that the Lord is good” (Ps 34:8).

As a deacon, I know for a fact that I must completely immerse myself in different areas of Diaconal apostolate and service. I have to be involved in various Church ministries, such as the ministries of charity, of the Word, and of the liturgy. While the two main apostolates of the Convent would give me avenues and opportunities to be involved and exercise my Diaconate ministry in the Colegio and in the formation house and community of our brother Dominican postulants, I can say with candor and conviction that my exposure and involvement in the local Diocesan church community has equally taught and provided me with a lot of fond memories filled with valuable lessons. All of these would drive and propel me to become one day, a shepherd equipped not just with pastoral knowledge or know-how to do things acquired from years of rigorous study and formation, but more importantly, I was taught to possess and form an authentic pastoral heart and zeal to serve the people of God, both within and ‘outside’ of our reach or concern.

Here, I emphasized the word ‘outside’ for the simple reason that we ourselves who are undergo-

From the hundreds of children that I was able to baptize, on all the instances that I was asked by the Christian faithful here to administer solemn blessings for both the living and the dead, to various forms of human activity, needs and occasions, on all the several opportunities that I was able to visit small and big communities of faith outside of our convent to teach, bless and give witness to the Gospel truth and values — in all of these that I have imparted and shared here as a beacon of light and a servant of Christ in the Church, I graciously extend my utmost gratitude to the Province, the community of St. Albert the Great, our parish community in the Diocese of San Pablo and most especially, to the Triune God for entrusting me this gift of ministry and for making my Diaconate journey, amidst all its merits and flaws, a fruitful and meaningful one.

The DSMC Experience: How It Helped Me Prepare for the Priesthood

DOMINICAN STUDENTS’ MEDIA CENTER

Punlâ is the Pastoral Newsletter of the Dominican Studentate which features events and activities related to the ministry of the brothers and their apostolic groups. It aims to promote awareness about the missionary endeavors of the brothers and their lay collaborators who tirelessly contribute to the propagation of the Gospel in their ministries. It also serves as a means to express the brothers’ gratitude to their benefactors and partners for their invaluable help in responding to the needs of the Church and society.

The Filipino term “punlâ” not only signifies the seed, but more importantly connotes the act of sowing. This expresses the dynamism of the brothers’ apostolic ministry, rooted as it is in their life of contemplation as students committed to the sowing of the seed that is the ever-fruitful Word: “So shall my word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to me empty but shall do what pleases me, achieving the end for which I sent it,” (Isaiah 55:11).

(DSMC), the social communication ministry of the Dominican Studentate, was my first apostolic group where I stayed for four long years beginning in 2012. I was assigned to the radio ministry, particularly running a radio show named “Usapang Kristiyano, Usapang Katoliko”. This radio program is a catechetical program of the student-brothers which aired on Dominican Radio in Manaoag, Pangasinan every Saturday night.

I vividly remember that during the initial airing of the UK radio, there were members of DSMC who were questioning whether the program successfully reached out to many people. Obviously, their main concern was if the effort was worth it or a waste of time. Unfortunately, we did not have a device that would check whether the program was heard or not by many listeners. During that time, social media was not yet fully developed unlike today when we could easily run the analytics using different platforms if you want to be seen in an on-

line or a live show. However, there was one thing that really motivated us. We persevered not because we just wanted to be heard nor to be known but because we wanted to build our confidence in communication and in preaching the Word of God.

Now, as a newly ordained priest, I have realized the value of my exposure to media apostolate. My firsthand experiences in preaching through radio ministry brought me an opportunity to prepare myself for communication especially in preaching the Gospel. Thus, most of the time during my homily in the Eucharistic celebration, I developed in my preaching a more personal and conversational approach in delivering my prepared homily. At the same time, I am no longer afraid of speaking in front of many people as well as in front of the camera.

Indeed, in everything that we do in our pastoral formation, let us always remember that our learnings and experiences in the various activities of our respective apostolic groups will have a big impact on our future ministries.

The Vocation of Teaching

REV. ROBERTO S. CASTELLANO, JR., OP

NO ONE is born a teacher because teachers are made. Although the process of being a teacher is challenging, it is a priceless vocation. The vocation of teaching cannot be undermined because of its incomparable nobility and dignity. The sublime dignity of being a teacher is encapsulated in Henry Adams’ words, “A teacher affects eternity, he cannot tell where his influence stops.” This may sound fictional but in hindsight, the vocation of being a teacher do really affect eternity. It is because, the seed of knowledge, skills and values planted in the minds of students are continuously passed on from one generation to another with its ripple effect.

Yours truly does not come from a bloodline of teachers but I became a teacher myself because of the powerful influence of my teachers in the past. I witnessed how good teachers inspire their students to seek the skills and knowledge of eternal life. I also experienced the tutelage of not so good teachers who imparted to me lessons in life, in the most painful ways that no one could even imagine.

These last few months of my teaching min-

istry, I observed that I have grown as a teacher. The tone of my lessons, themes of my learning strategies and styles of instruction are no longer confined within the bounds of the secular world. Now I am happily incorporating the tenets of values I learned in the Dominican formation I have undergone through the years.

I realized that the more one has been gifted by the Lord with multitude of learnings in different disciplines, the more one should be humble and docile to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. Why? Because a teacher is a mere instrument of the One Great Teacher, Jesus Christ. If the teacher starts to deviate from the true source of knowledge and wisdom, the vocation of being a teacher will also start to cease because it will not be nourished by the grace of God.

Now, I am really convinced that the primary values that teachers should possess and constantly aspire for are humility and docility. With these two values, one can really be a true follower and emulator of Christ, the One Great Teacher.

The Mission Continues: Providing Catholic Education Despite the Pandemic

used to have before the pandemic. Despite the unprecedented difficulties, the mission to provide “Catholic education” (by instilling the Catholic Church doctrine, moral and worship aspects in different practices) remains and is still being fulfilled.

AMIDST THE EFFECTS of the COVID-19 pandemic, educational institutions (both basic and collegiate levels) in our society today continue their quest to provide quality services for our young learners. Due to the various restrictions implemented by the government, schools grappled with converting onsite learning activities into online platforms or modular set-ups. Thus, teaching-learning experiences, grading systems, policy making, training, etc. were offered quite differently from what we

As Dominicans, we are always reminded of our fundamental role to preach the Gospel. One way of proclaiming the Word of God is through education or teaching, most specifically Theology or Religious Education courses in the different Dominican-run educational institutions. Since we are still practicing remote teaching modality, we were able to reach out even to the educational institutions run by the different Dominican Congregations outside Metro Manila.

Teaching Catholic values and heritage in an academic forum is indeed fulfilling and a joyous ministry. When students show their enthusiasm and active involvement during discussion albeit virtual and prompt submission of requirements, the teaching-learning journey becomes easier. However, challenges and struggles are also inevitable. Because we are in the online world, most of the time

Grateful @ 30

THE YEAR 2022 is a breather for many as humanity triumphs in its fight against COVID. This year is also very special for me as I celebrate my thirtieth year of proclaiming the Word of God in Santo Domingo Church, Quezon City. I vividly remember my “moment of grace” decades ago while I was serving both as lector/commentator at the altar of Our Lady of the Rosary La Naval de Manila. While the priest was raising the Body of Christ during the Consecration, I felt His real presence. I felt very blessed that I was very near Him. There and then, this young doctor made a pact to God that she will serve Him throughout her life.

I always tell others that being a lector saved my soul and my being. I focused less on the material aspects of life and focused more on my relationship with God and others. I studied about the lectorate ministry, the Catholic faith, and the Bible. I always brought along my daughter with me whenever I attended activities in Sto. Domingo Church as I wanted to inspire her. I became the happiest mother when recently, I heard her say, “Mama, I want to be a lector.” She is now sixteen years old, and I await the day that we will be able to serve God together at the altar. #Grateful@30

students attend the online class late (and even worst absent even without any notifications given).

The learning modality system also has very limited features in order to make the discussion more attractive to the students. The number of students per class is quite big (for example, one class has more than fifty [50] students) as well. Late submission of requirements and low-quality outputs being submitted have also become the sad norm. Therefore, we can say that there are good things that we gain and at the same time, we also saw that many things need to be improved in our educational services as we face the current pandemic.

As the government gradually removes some of the restrictions, we hope that our Catholic educational institutions, most especially those that bear the Dominican charism, may continue their efforts to share the fruits of their contemplation by providing quality education while promoting the values of evangelization and ecclesial experience to all our stakeholders.

From the Director of Pastoral Formation

TODAY, as we embark on another formation journey, we likewise inaugurate the pastoral formation in the Dominican Studentate. This is only to show that as a formation community, full of hope in God’s providential care, we are once again ready to embrace every opportunity that God would provide us for our own betterment and the spiritual upliftment of those people under our care. It is again a season to be aware of our commitment to the Lord, as we are being slowly introduce to the different priorities and mission of the Province and the Order. If there is an ultimate end in view, my dear brothers, it is nothing but to mold your hearts to the very heart of the Lord, the Good Shepherd, who is always ready to give up His life for His flock. It is always our fervent prayer that at the end of your formation year, each of you would have the heart of Christ burning with zeal for the salvation of man.

…as you fulfill the thrusts of your respective apostolic groups, bear in mind that you have a crucial role to do. Each of you has something to contribute in order to proclaim the mercy and love of God. As you carry out each plan that you have designed for this formation year, never forget those people who are abandoned and neglected by the society for in them we can directly see the face of God.

ALLOW ME to give a short account of what happened to me before I turned to God. I studied at Colegio San Juan de Letran in Intramuros, Manila, from elementary up to high school. But before I finished High School, I joined a barkada of not so good influence. Since during those days, Manila was chaotic, our group would always be involved in a rubble. The world I live then was messy and so my life. My life took a turn when I was invited by my wife and her friends to attend a seminar, known as Life in the Spirit Seminar (LSS). It was a series of talks given by different people. When the baptism of the Holy Spirit came, I cried a lot and started to ask God for forgiveness. I joined their group known as Mary’s Joy and its spiritual adviser was Fr. Quirico T Pedregosa, Jr., OP. Up to present, I am still with this group. It was Fr. Ramon T. Salibay, OP who encouraged me to serve in Sto. Domingo Parish. I joined

and serve as extraordinary minister of the Holy Communion during the 7 am and 8 am Masses. One morning, Father Ching asked me, “Why do you serve as lay minister and why serve at two Masses?” My

answer was simple: “Before I was bad and everything I did was perhaps displeasing to the Lord. Now, in my own little ways, I want God to smile.”

Brothers, it is my hope that as you engage in your apostolic endeavors, may you find Jesus in every person you will meet along the way. God bless you all!

This is an excerpt from the homily delivered by Fr. De Dios during the Eucharistic Celebration for the opening of the Pastoral Formation Year 2022-2023 held on September 11, 2022 at Sto. Domingo Church, Quezon City.

it became a yearly tradition for Cubao Media to help DSMC in bringing the celebration online.

As for me, my first experience in covering the La Naval event was when I was still in Radio Veritas in 2017. I was dazed by the strong faith of the Filipinos from different walks of life who yearly join the grand procession. I teamed up with one of the brothers during my first coverage as a ra-

dio anchor, and I was astonished by the richness of history and faith that I first learned during that time. Since then, Our Lady of the Holy Rosary — La Naval de Manila, has been very close to my heart.

The coverage with the different members of the Dominican Students’ Media Center each year provides the Cubao Media with different experiences. It taught us to be flexible whenever we encounter student-brothers of different nationalities. We enjoy coaching them about the different camera shots and angles during the

event, and we are glad that they learn quickly and are enjoying the coverage at the same time.

“Passion X Mission,” I can say that we are very blessed to have this job and beyond blessed to be able to join the La Naval coverage team because it is also difficult to find a job that is also your passion.

Even though Cubao Media was not able to join the coverage of La Naval festivities for a year due to the pandemic, we are always grateful for the help and guidance of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who has never abandoned us. MS. LEAHNA C. VILLAJOS

TEAM PREACHING 2023

BLESSED HUMBERT OF ROMANS once wrote, “How necessary is the office of preaching without which the human heart would not rise to the hope of heaven.”

In initial formation, Team Preaching is one of the annual activities conducted by the student-brothers to embody this mission as part of their apostolate and their pastoral formation program as well. The COVID-19 pandemic halted the Team Preaching program for two years because of health and safety precautions. But by the grace of God, the student-brothers once again went for team preaching this year as the pandemic gradually subsides.

On January 4, 2023, the Retreat and Recollection Committee prepared a send-off rite, integrated with evening prayer, at the Dominican Studentate oratory prior to Team Preaching 2023. Fr. Lauro G. de Dios, OP, the Director of Pastoral Formation, in his message exhorted the student-brothers to be grateful for the opportunity to go on mission and to always seek the Lord. He also emphasized the importance of bringing Jesus Christ to wherever the brothers are going to be sent. After his message, the student-brothers lit candles and sang “Here I am, Lord.”

Team Preaching 2023 happened from January 8 to 14, 2023 in seventeen (17) schools in various parts of Luzon. The student-brothers were divided into five teams: Team NCR, Team Central Luzon, Team Northern Luzon, Team Albay and Team Camarines Sur.

The schools in the National Capital Region (NRC) and Central Luzon visited by student-brothers to facilitate recollections were: Holy Rosary College, Tala, Caloocan City; Saint James Academy, Plaridel; Sta. Catalina College, Manila; St.Rose Catholic School, Tarlac; Concepcion Catholic School, Tarlac; Dominican School of Angeles, Pampanga; UST Angelicum College, Quezon City; Mater Carmeli School, Novaliches City; and Elizabeth Seton School, Las Pińas City. Team Northern Luzon went to preach to the schools in the North as follows: Saint Mary’s

Academy of Rosario, Rosario, La Union; Pugo Catholic School, La Union; Sacred Heart School, Bauang, La Union; and Colegio Annunciata, San Carlos, Pangasinan. The student-brothers in Team B had the Priory of Our Lady of the Rosary, Manaoag, Pangasinan as their homebase.

In the Bicol region, Team Albay went to the University of Santo Tomas (UST)-Legazpi, Legazpi City, Albay; Saint Benedict Academy, Guinobatan, Albay. Meanwhile, Team Camarines Sur went to Dominican School of Calabanga, Camarines Sur and Colegio Santissimo Rosario, Libmanan, Camarines Sur. Both teams went to Bicol by public transportation. Team Albay stayed at the Convent of St. Raymond of Peńafort in Legazpi City, Albay while Team Camarines Sur were accommodated by the Dominican Sisters of Blessed Imelda in Calabanga, Camarines Sur and by the sisters from the Congregation of Dominican Sisters of St. Catherine of Siena in Libmanan, Camarines Sur.

The student-brothers did not however only facilitate recollections for students from elementary to college levels. They also seized the opportunity to promote Dominican vocations. They administered entrance examinations to the Order or Preachers and conducted initial interviews for those who passed the exams. Further, other student-brothers were also requested to give recollection to the faculty and personnel of the schools and to give a leadership training seminar to student-leaders.

Team Preaching 2023 went well, and everyone returned to the Coristado feeling blessed with so much experience of the love of God. The student-brothers are thankful to their formators and superiors, to the students and other people whom they encountered in Team Preaching 2023, the Dominican Fathers and the Dominican sisters who received them with utmost concern and hospitality, and to God for the guidance and strength for the mission.
