PUNAHOU SCHOOL | SUMMER CAMPUS GUIDE: JUNIOR SCHOOL

June 2023

Dear Junior School Summer Programs Families,

The faculty, administration and administrative Deans are excited to welcome you to the 2023 Punahou Summer Program. This Handbook and Parent Guide offers you information to support your child’s transition to this year’s Summer Programs experience.

As you read through the guide, you may notice that many of the Summer Programs practices and procedures are similar to current school year practices. Please take some time to review the 2022-2023 Handbook and Code of Conduct which highlights the School’s expectations and policies. The Punahou School Health webpage will continue to provide the most up-to-date health policies.

This guide will walk you through general procedures and routines that attend to community safety as well as acquaint you with information pertinent to each division in the Junior School. As we work to create a safe and healthy learning environment on campus, the effectiveness of our efforts also depends heavily on your willingness to cooperate and support these safety measures.

Thank you for giving your attention to the information in this guide and for your ongoing support of the well-being of our entire community.

With appreciation and aloha,

PUNAHOU SCHOOL | SUMMER CAMPUS GUIDE: JUNIOR SCHOOL
INTRODUCTION

JUNIOR SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION: K – 8

The administrative Deans have oversight of a grade level and work with families as they transition through the School. Each class of students has one Dean for the two years of kindergarten - grade 1, one Dean who follows the class from grades 2-5, and one Dean through the middle school years of grades 6-8. The continuity allows the administrative Deans to get to know the students in each class and provide a high level of personalized support. The administrative Deans look forward to working with your children and you this summer.

Off Campus Activities

Students will be participating in a range of off-campus field trips including two school-sponsored travel opportunities (Broadway Bound and Girls in the Wilderness), which have been carefully designed exclusively for students and teachers. The Student and Parent Code of Conduct will be in effect at all off-campus events, including school-sponsored travel.

Students must ride the school bus to and from all field trips. Parents/guardians may not drop off or pick up their child at the field trip locations. We are not able to accommodate late arrivals on field trip days.

Chaperones

All off-campus events and school-sponsored travel will be chaperoned by Punahou School Faculty.

Broadway Bound and Girls in the Wilderness

In alignment with the Wo International Center travel policies and practices, parents or family members are welcome to visit their children in the hotel lobby during the trip but they are not permitted to take their children out for meals or engage in any activities together. All visits must be coordinated with the trip leader prior to departure.
