UKRF ANNUAL REPORT 2019-2020 CHAIR’S REPORT Hello everyone and a very warm welcome to a summary of 2019 as Acting Chair. This year has seen many huge and progressive changes within the UK Reiki Federation and we very much look forward to 2020 where we can witness the results of all these changes.

After Annie Harrington’s resignation at the end of October, I stepped into the role of Acting Chair with Jon Matson-Higgins stepping into the role of Temporary Acting Vice Chair. Between us and the amazing team of hard-working volunteers on the Management Committee, we have made many positive changes to the way the UKRF now runs on a day to day basis.

Jon literally took the office systems apart and created new ones from scratch that are now streamlined, cloud based and user friendly. He did a phenomenal amount of work to achieve this and the UK Reiki Federation can now move forward into the 21st century, so a huge thank you to Jon for this.

As a team, we also looked at the huge costs the office in Ludgershall were incurring and decided that we could no longer justify these costs. We found a small, managed office in Croydon, South London, which is much more central, with great transport links, utilities provided and a very nice environment to work in. Sarah Laing is our new Office Administrator and works there from Monday to Thursday, 9am to 5pm. On Fridays, the office telephone will be answered, and messages taken. Sarah has an enormous task on her hands to catch up with all the backlog of orders and enquiries and she is doing extremely well, considering how much work there is. Again, I’d like to extend a huge thank you to Sarah.

Heartfelt gratitude is also extended to the amazing team we now have running the UKRF, all of whom are volunteers. Every person puts in an enormous number of hours, in and around their own full-time jobs, businesses and families.

Tom Jones continues to be our Treasurer and as a qualified Accountant, Tom’s hard work and a reliable cloud-based accounting package, produces accurate reports as to where we are financially.

Wendy Hick is now Secretary to the Management Committee and is currently arranging our AGM, which will be held on the 24th April 2020 in Barnes, London, where we hope to see as many members as possible attending. Wendy will be standing for election as Vice Chair in April.

Sue Malcolm continues to be our Animal Reiki Coordinator and is finalising all the necessary paperwork to allow approved courses for teaching and learning Animal Reiki to RCVS standards. This has taken years of tireless work by Sue and when launched, will be very exciting for those members wishing to take these approved courses.

UKRF ANNUAL REPORT 2019-2020 continued; Anna Maria Walton continues to be our International Coordinator and her role is to extend the UKRF hand to other Reiki organisations worldwide.

Rachel Ford has joined our Management Committee as Compliance Coordinator, where she is currently overviewing all our policies and procedures, ensuring that the UKRF is at its most professional and compliant in all respects. This is an enormous task and very necessary and we look forward to being compliant in all aspects of running the UKRF. Torsten Lange has taken on the role of Research Coordinator and has a team of volunteers who are currently seeking out interesting research for members to read. The research team is composed of UKRF volunteers Trish Parry, Mark Prangell, Sally Cooper, Vicky McLennand and Jane Metcalfe. We very much look forward to seeing their contribution on the website next year and in the new magazine in the Summer edition.

Laura Clark has taken on the role of National Coordinator and is very much looking forward to developing this role. However, this is the last part of the database that is being worked on so will need a little more time before we can launch this properly and ensuring GDPR compliance.

Sharon Penny has become our Clinical Advisor and is happy to answer any questions you might have with regard to using Reiki in any clinical setting or with any medical condition.

Samantha Metcalfe has taken on the role of Events Coordinator and will be helping to coordinate our Annual Conference, which will be held on 24th September 2020. She will also liaise with members and organisations about other events that the UKRF may wish to be a part of.

Ralph Brown continues to be our Pioneers Coordinator and is hoping to relaunch this part of the UKRF next year, asking members to join this group and share their knowledge, expertise and wisdom.

Kerrie Baker has agreed to take on our new look magazine, Reiki World and we were pleased with the launch of this in the Spring of 2020.

Amit Sihra has taken on the role of looking after Lineages and is currently building a new cloud-based database. Amit has already got a lot of lineage information and is able to offer a lineage tracing service.

We are still looking for volunteers to take on Social Media and Merchandise and are hopeful we will attract the right people to join our dedicated team.

With only two months into this role, there is so much to look forward to and next year’s Annual Report will see a host of achievements listed as we go through 2020.

Anne-Marie Carratu, Acting Chair EDUCATION AND TRAINING

UKRF ANNUAL REPORT 2019-2020 continued; As an organisation, the UKRF is a verifying one and we both approve Reiki courses and verify practitioners for the CNHC (Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council) registration. This year has seen a record number of applications from members to join the CNHC, which has kept this section of the UKRF very busy. In addition, there have been courses to accredit and many enquiries from members as to how they can improve their teaching material. The Core Curriculum has gained more recognition as more and more teachers are trying to use this as their guideline for teaching their respective courses. This can only be a good thing as we elevate the standards of teaching Reiki.

We will be looking at how this part of the UKRF is currently being run next year and will be making positive changes to help more members get CNHC registered, as we are working closely with the CNHC to achieve this. We would be very happy to hear from any members who are currently qualified teachers and assessors to be part of this new group.

As a member of the CNHC’s Professional Specific Board for Reiki, I have attended meetings over the year to keep up to date with any new directives and discussions. In addition, the UKRF continue to be part of the Reiki Council, where education is very much on the agenda.

Anne-Marie Carratu, Education Coordinator SECRETARY’S REPORT I am new to this role and delighted to have been in the post since January 2020.

The Management Committee held an online meeting on the 28/01/20 to propose and second committee members and to discuss the strengths of the UKRF over the past year and its vision in going forward.

These are exciting times for the UKRF as we move forwards in the 21st Century. We are holding our AGM on the 24th April 2020 and have organised our annual conference in Bournemouth in September 2020.

We are currently in the process of updating our office systems and databases to ensure greater efficiency in the future. We therefore are unable to provide members with membership numbers at present. We will ensure that this information is sent to members as soon as it is available.

Year ended 31st March 2019 The final accounts provided for the UK Reiki Federation for the year ended 31-3-2019 are as follows; Income during the year was £98,913. Subscriptions came to £84,542. Commissions from insurance were £3,567 and the remaining income was from donations, website listings, advertising, merchandise, publications, lineage tracing and events.

Purchases totalled £367.

Direct Expenses totalled £552.

Overhead expenses amounted to £94,403. This figure includes professional fees i.e. administration, IT/Web consultants, legal fees, mileage and other costs.

The surplus for the year was £3,591. Our position remains strong at the end of the year with cash in the bank of £29,866 at 31st March 2019.

Tom Jones, Treasurer COMPLIANCE COORDINATOR REPORT The role of Compliance Coordinator for the UK Reiki Federation was created in November 2019 when I was invited to join the Management Committee in this capacity. In this role I am tasked with overseeing, reviewing and revising the operations, protocols and procedures of the UKRF. The task ahead is sizable. I am currently reviewing and revising the UKRF Constitution and Code of Ethics & Professional Practice in order to ensure they are in line with current professional guidelines and legislation. Moving forward into the coming year I will be reviewing the Complaints & Disciplinary Protocols with a view to streamlining processes in order to keep the distress to all parties unfortunate enough to be involved to a minimum.

I will also be addressing the UKRF website terms & conditions of use and working with the Management Committee, team of coordinators, volunteers and administrative staff to create descriptors of duties and responsibilities associated with their various roles.

UKRF ANNUAL REPORT 2019-2020 continued; ANIMAL REIKI COORDINATOR REPORT 2019/2020 2019 has been a very positive year and one in which we have made much progress behind the scenes with the Reiki Council Animal Reiki Project. This is an initiative with the UK Reiki Federation and seven other professional Reiki organisation members, which I am leading.

After the National Occupational Standards (NOS) were set in 2018, in 2019 we agreed to introduce recognition of (level 2) Foundation Reiki Practitioner for Animals as well as the planned (level 3) Professional Practice Reiki Practitioner for Animals.

Animal Reiki Practitioner, Master and Teacher membership application details, training guidelines (for teachers), and practitioner course approval information have been produced for Foundation level. To be recognised as an Animal Reiki Practitioner however, a basic Understanding of Animals will be required, and many Animal Reiki courses do not specifically include this teaching. We therefore embarked on creating a CPD course to cover this content.

As soon as the various documents are officially signed off by the Reiki Council and the processing operations, membership database and directory etc are set up across a number of Reiki Council organisations, we can progress to launch.

It has been an honour and delight to have worked so closely and co-operatively (in true Reiki style) with Animal Reiki representatives from other Reiki organisations too, in creating what will be an exciting new collaborative development for Reiki for Animals. We are aiming to launch Phase 1 (Foundation level) May 2020 and phase 2 (Professional Practice/ NOS) later in 2020.

Sue Malcolm, Animal Reiki Coordinator PIONEERS GROUP ACTIVITY REPORT Despite repeated calls for contributions via social media and other platforms during the year the response to requests for information regarding the use of Reiki in a Pioneering fashion has been extremely disappointing.

A handful of reports have been received and reported to the committee however there has been few instances of correlation to suggest that any trends in the practice are beginning to emerge save the possibility of the use of Reiki with children (A professional study being carried out with pupils and teaching staff in a Staffordshire school ).

It was suggested during the latter part of 2019 by the writer that the Pioneering Group might be better to be absorbed into the Research area and used for directing rather than being passive in its operation.

As a final attempt to re-kindle this once very active group activity under my control I have suggested and agreed with the Chair to increase the recognition of

UKRF ANNUAL REPORT 2019-2020 continued; contributing Pioneer Group members through certificates and other means of encouragement to see if we can draw increased interest during the next few months.

This initiative has been publicised by a short article in the new UK Reiki Federation magazine released this week and we are hopeful of a better outcome.

Ralph Brown, Pioneers Group Coordinator CLINCAL REPORT I accepted the post of Clinical Coordinator at the end of 2019.

My aim is to answer any medical queries for Reiki Federation members around the treatment of clients. I look forward to enhancing members’ practice and confidence in treating people with complex conditions.

Sharon Penny, Clinical Coordinator RESEARCH REPORT The research group has been given support in starting their evaluation of international research papers on Reiki. The first papers have been reviewed and are in the process of being made available to members on the Reiki Federation website. It is envisaged that a comprehensive resource, listing all quality research in Reiki, will be created.
