Moving to Secondary School

A Guide for Parents and Students

SIX SMALL, NURTURING COMMUNITIES = ONE SCHOOL.

Welcome to Secondary School

We are very pleased to welcome our new Year 7 students, and look forward to a fantastic year ahead. At Bohunt, we are committed to offering a dynamic learning community whose ethos is encapsulated by three simple words: enjoy, respect and achieve

Our school's success is based on an approach, which combines the highest expectations with a sensitivity to learners’ individual needs. Concentrating on maintaining the very best standards of learning and teaching, and taking every opportunity to recognise and reward achievement.

During your time at Bohunt we will place strong emphasis on good behaviour and the development of character. You will have access to excellent learning, which we hope that you will be able to underpin with behaviour that shows your commitment to a firstclass education. We looking forward to seeing students demonstrate confidence, creativity, independence and innovation in the years to come.

Online Learning Resources

Showbie and Socrative have become indispensable tools for our students, revolutionising the way we engage students and manage lessons Teachers can distribute assignments, provide timely feedback, and track student progress in real-time. Its versatility allows for the seamless integration of various multimedia resources, enhancing the learning experience and catering to diverse learning styles. Showbie fosters collaboration among students, while also promoting digital literacy and organisational skills crucial for success in the 21st century Overall, Showbie empowers both teachers and students, creating a dynamic learning environment that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration

This is a blended learning platform, that simplifies creating, distributing, and marking schoolwork

The main use of Google Classroom at Bohunt school is to streamline the process of sharing files between teachers and students

On your Google classroom, your teachers can assign you work and can share resources with you.

Preparing for Secondary

Bohunt library is passionate about reading books We believe that developing reading skills through a love of literature is important for progress in all subjects Through reading regularly, students are exposed to language being used creatively, imaginatively and accurately They start to appreciate how character, mood and setting play an important part in their emotional engagement with any text; they begin to see how writers create the magic that they can aspire to themselves in their own writing. Without reading, there is no good writing therefore at Bohunt we encourage and support reading as the foundation to all future learning

Next year, students will encounter a range of texts In order to best prepare for this, we have a suggested reading list of exciting and riveting titles, which we are sure will capture the imagination and interest so you are ready to take up the mantle in Year 7

We would like to challenge you to read five books and have a think about ones you would like to add to the list Write a brief review, bring it to the library and earn your first ERA award What a great way to start your reading journey at Bohunt

Read 5 books to win your 1st ERA in Year 7! Summer Challenge
