Period product basics The two most common options are pads and tampons

Pads are the easiest to use and are made of absorbent material to soak up the blood. They have a sticky side that goes onto your underwear.

There are several different types with varying absorbency levels, from overnight to panty liners.

Tampons are tightly packed tubes of absorbent material that fits inside your vagina to catch the blood before it reaches the outside of your body.

They use a plastic or cardboard applicator to help insert them. They can be tricky to use at first.
