GF Reed (Alpha Phi, Spring 62) on being awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the New Chesapeake Men for Progress

Education Foundation The New Chesapeake Men for Progress, Inc. has advocated for progressive change and inclusion in the City of Chesapeake since 1963 This organization has provided educational programs and mentoring. It has been instrumental in integrating the city by supporting the elections of Blacks on the city council, school board, and other city boards and commissions The New Chesapeake Men for Progress, Inc continues to be a voice for diversity and inclusion, racial justice, community engagement, and economic growth in the community

Preserving the legacy of Kappa Alpha Psi is paramount While we are sure there must be more brothers out there who have contributed to the legacy, we wanted to take a minute to highlight the Brown family Since 1950, there has been a Kappa man in the Brown family. Brother Ollie Brown is the first to become a fraternity member while crossing the burning sands at Virginia State College (The Alpha Phi of Kappa Alpha Psi) While at the now Virginia State University (VSU), Brother Ollie Brown received a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education He was also a standout member of the wrestling and track teams. Upon graduation, he received an appointment to the United States Army, where he served over 25 years on active duty. Before retiring as Colonel, Brother O. Brown returned to VSU in 1970 to earn a Master of Science degree in Guidance and Counseling. After retiring from the military, Brother O. Brown served as Director of Veterans Affairs and Financial Aid at VSU, Director of Plans and Management at the Defense Logistics Agency, and as a counselor in the Petersburg Public School System One of his many career highlights includes being elected to the Virginia State University Hall of Fame (Class of 1990) He is a charter member of the Fort Lee (VA) Alumni and is currently an active chapter member
