We’ve just hauled more than a dozen cabinets, counters, and cubbies from a historic Connecticut hardware store back to our shop. To see the entire collection, visit provenancecompanies.com.
The Story
Located in a Classic Revival building just outside the city’s Main Street Historic District, Meeker’s was known for its impressive selection of tools, gardening supplies, and feed. The store opened in 1885 and was later added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1893.
Beatrice Cabinet
Charming and compact with seed bins, nameplates, and sturdy metal handles. Pull open the drawers and you’ll see handwritten calculations scrawled inside.
Oswald Cabinet
With its jumble of tiny compartments, this may be the quirkiest item in our inventory. Everything from wheels and cork to doorstops and hog rings are tacked to the front, proving that it was packed with essentials for home and garden.
Ike Cabinet
The mix of shelves and drawers in our Ike hardware cabinet provide ample storage space. A peg board covers one door while the others are clad in felt. Sun has bleached the fabric to a muted green, leaving shadowy traces of hinges and brackets behind.
