PERU : Grooming the new generation Open Doors The program supporting the Universal Healthcare Insurance Policy in Peru (SISTEC) counts on a very important component of BTC: The Junior Program. The work team of the bilateral Health Program, SISTEC, is experiencing the value of the Junior Assistants in the different initiatives implemented, which has significantly contributed to the training of the young expatriates. Therefore, in April 2015, the directors of the SISTEC Program invited all Junior Assistants in Peru to an Open Doors session to introduce the Program and its context. The Junior Assistants had the opportunity to learn about the Program’s partner in Peru, the Seguro Integral de Salud (SIS), meet the staff members and learn about their work. Guy Castadot, BTC Resident Representative, and Veronique Gérard, Program Officer, were also invited to this activity and brought a major added value to the session. Learning & Development The six BTC AJ or Asesores Juniors, as called in Spanish, working either at a BTC program or for a Belgian NGO in Peru, were able to:  Discuss with BTC ResRep and the Program Officer in Peru about the support of the Junior Program in the country and the impact of Asesores Juniors for the BTC Representation.  Meet SISTEC’s Co-Director, Olivier Grégoire, as well as the rest of the Program’s team and discuss about the bilateral cooperation in Peru with the SIS.  Receive information about the healthcare situation in Peru and the activities to achieve the SISTEC Program’s objectives.  Visit the headquarters of the partner organization (SIS) and dialogue with members of the central office. Win-win networking The participation of the BTC Juniors in the Open Doors session had a very positive impact on the Program. The staff members of SISTEC, as well as the work team of the Seguro Integral de Salud, were pleased to meet the Junior Assistants and know more about their work on each field of activities. This initiative is a premiere in Peru and showed the key role the Junior Assistants develop as links among all the activities financed by Belgian Cooperation in the country.
