The first fruits of the new era at Azteca Late last year, TV Azteca announced the beginning of a new era for their telenovelas. This year’s MipTV is showing the first fruit of this new stage: La loba and Infamia.

“These are telenovelas that combine great stories and super productions. We have selected the best stories: adaptations that will be well received and will be competitive internationally. We are looking at every detail, episode after episode.” That is how Alberto Santini, Executive VP of Production, Marketing and Promotion of TV Azteca and Director of Azteca Novelas, defines this “new era” at Azteca. To this end, Santini has surrounded himself with producers and promoters from Televisa and Univision. Among them is Maricarmen Marcos, who has produced several telenovelas for Televisa (Contra viento y marea, Destilando amor, Mañana es para

production colorful. “It is 65%-70% shot on location,” said Marcos. “I’m very happy with La loba and I want more.”

La loba marks the international return of actor Mauricio Islas, who co-stars with Ivonne Montero.

The other production of this new era is Infamia (Torn apart, 150x1). It is an original story about twin sisters who fall victim of their grandmother’s evil and greed when they are separated at birth. It stars Christian Bach, José Alonso, Andrés Palacios, Alma Delfina, Martha Cristiana, Carla Hernández and Pedro Sicard.

“Out of all the stories presented to me it was the one to which I felt most attracted. It is a classic melodrama sprinkled with situations that make it current. It is filled with intrigue, revealing some secrets along the plot. It is based on an Argentinean book, but we are doing a more liberal version of it. We “Mexicanized” it, and it features locations around Xochimilco with flowers and greenhouses that make the

“Infamia is a great original story, a pure melodrama written with a lot of passion. We are certain that it will be well received by audiences,” said Santini.

TV Azteca’s goal is to optimize production and continue competing with new and better telenovelas, both for Mexico and international markets. To this end, the company laid the founding stone for their future studios. The project will have seven new soundstages (one of them over 1,150 square meters) distributed in two floors. The facility will be equipped with the latest technology in high definition. MT
