bell ringers ready to make their contributions too. We are still hoping to hold a traditional village fête (with no entry fee) on the playing field during the afternoon of Saturday 9th May, but need more village organisations, individuals, or groups to agree to run the stalls. It’s a large playing field, so we need at least 10-12 stalls for it to be viable. We are not trying to raise money, so any takings are for those groups running their stalls. We’d also love to put on children’s games, but so far, other than the kind offer of some equipment, not a single village parent has volunteered to help run these.
Plans for the VE Day 75th Anniversary Celebrations are moving forward. We have firmed up on the Tea Dance-Sing-a-long during the afternoon of Friday 8th May (with everyone 75 or older a special guest), and the 1940s Swing Night on Saturday 9th May in the evening, both in the village hall. You can expect a World War 2 exhibition in the church over the weekend showing the research results for those from Probus who served plus a fascinating presentation on the Probus Home Guard and the Probus Invasion Committee.
Overall, the fête is very much still in the balance. Perhaps it’s just an outdated idea - do let us know your thoughts. More next month, look out for posters around the village and the Probus VE Day 75 Facebook page.
