One of the most strategic transformational changes for Princes Group has been the introduction of a cross-functional Insight & Product Change department, consisting of Innovation, NPD, Insight and Project Management.
This brings all product functions together to collaboratively manage the current and future portfolio for the business. Princes Group first introduced a dedicated Innovation function in 2020, operating from a state-of-the-art innovation centre, covering all areas including culinary, process, packaging and commercial, helping the group stretch into new categories and target new audiences.

Innov8 are responsible for evolving the brands within the existing portfolio and are also the driving force behind new brand creation. This year saw the launch of a new Princes Street Food sub-brand, with a range of Chicken Kebabs inspired by global cuisines, helping to transition the brand into the Frozen category, with extensions of the range due in 2023. Further Innovation included the development a new range of Spice Shots for the U:Me brand, creating a new format of infused oil and spices. Both launches were nominated in The Grocer New Product of the Year Awards.

The team has also worked with Innovation agency, KICR, who provided the business with rapid consumer testing through our bespoke community of 15,000 consumers. This initiative has allowed fluid consumer collaboration on many innovation projects. The unique partnership was nominated by The Grocer for Business Initiative of The Year in 2022 and was a finalist in the Food Manufacturer Excellence Awards as service provider partnership of the year 2022.
