DDT: Community spirit shines through for Excavator Parts
civil service
While the individuals have changed since CJD Equipment first started doing business with the family of JMT Civil’s Joel Taylor in the late 1990s, the relationship between the two is stronger than ever

The earthmoving industry is filled with interesting stories of multi-generational businesses.
In most cases, the younger generation has followed in the footsteps of their father and grandfather, with the young operators growing up in trucks and operating heavy machinery.
JMT Civil is one example of such a company.
Based in south-western Sydney, the familyowned civil and transport company is now run by Joel Taylor, an operations manager with over 40 years of family experience behind him.
Taylor learned the ropes at a young age from his grandfather, transport industry pioneer John Tripodi.
“I was born into the industry, however I became hands-on involved in 2010,” says Taylor.
“I probably shouldn’t mention what age I first operated an excavator, but it’s safe to say I started young.”
Taylor’s reference to becoming hands-on in 2010 was when JMT Civil was formed and since then the company has specialised in land clearing, tree recycling, bulk earthworks, bulk haulage and heavy haulage.
Even though JMT Civil now has more than 15 employees, Taylor still enjoys jumping in an excavator or truck to remain hands-on.
His grandfather’s passions for working hard and providing excellent customer relations have inspired Taylor, who aims to carry on these values as he steers the company into the future.
“Customer service is a big one for us,” he says.
“Being shown the ropes by my grandfather, I like to think that a bit of his old-school approach of respect, values and a solid work ethic have also made their way into my current operations. We offer a personal yet professional approach.
“I like to take a hands-on approach, but any member of the team is accessible to discuss potential projects.
“Modern, well-maintained equipment and a dedication to the highest level of compliance is our priority.”
Volvo is Taylor’s excavator of choice and he has bought several from CJD Equipment, now working with its regional sales manager Darryl McCarthy.
“Pop struck up the relationship with CJD in the late 1990s when he purchased his first machines, wheel loaders,” says Taylor.
“Darryl is readily available for a chat and is knowledgeable about the industry and the Volvo range.
“Our Volvos are reliable and efficient, our operators love the feel and comfort of the machine, and alongside CJD Equipment I have the peace of mind of knowing that if there are any rare occasions when things play up, there is a dedicated team of highly trained and qualified technicians a phone call away.
“CJD Equipment and Volvo have been a great combination for us.”
From McCarthy’s perspective, Volvo’s range of products has provided Taylor and JMT Civil with plenty of options for their range of jobs and increasingly busy schedule.
“I’ve been working with Joel and JMT Civil for the last three years and in that time they have purchased several excavators, including the Volvo ECR235C, EC220D and ECR355EL,” says McCarthy.
“The ECR355EL is the most recent and impressive purchase. The short swing radius has offered excellent stability, lifting capacity and power to the team at JMT.
“The short swing radius machine has been a great addition to their fleet providing tight access capabilities on land clearing sites.
“Along with the power, fuel efficiencies and operator comfort, this machine has been a gamechanger for JMT.”
