DDT: Kerfab distributing Rhino excavator screed batter bucket

The excavator screed batter bucket is a star among Rhino’s series of excavator and telehandler attachments, now distributed Australia-wide through Kerfab

Precision engineered to sit at exactly the correct angle, and with a patented flat base design, the Rhino screed batter bucket is renowned among operators for making batters faster and easier to complete.

Kerfab, which acquired Rhino Buckets & Attachments back in 2018, says the bucket is available for excavators from 12–35 tonnes, though custom solutions are available.

Primarily used to build the sloped walls common to earthworks projects around Australia, the Rhino bucket has a unique screed base with a flat bottom, specifically designed for pulling batters quicker and faster than the traditional mud buckets.

The Rhino screed batter bucket is specifically designed so that the screed back is set at a 55 degree angle, making it easy for operators to press the bucket into batter bases of floor, to straighten, compact or create a neat corner.

“The outcome is a neat, compacted edge along the bottom of the batter,” Kerfab says.

“In addition, to prevent any deformation caused by harsh digging, all screed batter buckets have a centre stiffener to add rigidity.”

This helps leave a very flat surface by creating less soil turbulence and more compaction under the bucket.

Design engineers worked with operators to develop the concept and trial a design, using Bisalloy 400/450 steel on the lip, sidebars and wings to maximise yield strength while providing extra protection.

The bucket attaches to excavators over 12 tonnes using the Rhino Adjustable System –an adjustable system that can be used to modify pickup pins to suit any original equipment manufacturer.

The bushes are interchangable – making them suitable for different pin diameters, and eccentric – rotatable to suit varying pin centres.

This, Kerfab says, increases efficiency and machine utilisation in mixed fleet operations and gives the attachments a higher resale value.

Rhino buckets come with a two-year manufacturer’s warranty, supported by Kerfab’s BackUp+ Protection Program.

The company says this will bring local service and repairs in hours, thanks to its series of agreements with engineers, welders, fabricators and mechanics in every major city and many rural areas.

The buckets are built at Kerfab’s factory in Kerang, Victoria, with each weld meeting Australian Standard 1554.1 – including thicker, full weld penetration on the wing and tip joints.

“Failures are rare, but if they occur, we are able to proactively trace them,” Kerfab says.

Aside from its unique screed and screed tilting buckets, Kerfab has a standard range of GP buckets, mud buckets, tilting buckets, trench buckets, rippers, grabs, and sieve/skeleton buckets suitable for Caterpillar, Komatsu, Hitachi, Hyundai, Kobelco, Doosan, Case and many other machines.

In addition to standard attachments, Kerfab can also design and build custom excavator buckets and attachments to suit your machine and application perfectly.
