I'm Amy, your neighborhood photographer, and I'm beyond excited to connect with y'all!
A little about me: I'm a Texas Woman's University grad with a degree in art, specializing in photography. My love for photography started with my mom's vintage 1970s Canon camera, and now I shoot with a Sony A7IV mirrorless—which I'm absolutely obsessed with. For me, photography is all about capturing life's beautiful chaos, whether it's my four amazing kids (three in college and one about to graduate high school!), my supportive husband, or chasing after our two dogs. Life's best moments fly by, and photos are a return ticket to a moment otherwise gone.
Since 1997, I've had the absolute joy of photographing all kinds of milestones—weddings, maternity shoots, classy boudoir (yes, ladies), newborn cuddles, and high school seniors getting ready to take on the world. It's a privilege to watch these families grow over the years. I've shot some really cool private parties over the years and met some local celebs doing everything from holiday parties and nonprofit fundraisers to red carpet events. I love what I do, and there is never a dull moment.
One of the highlights of my career was photographing a wedding in Greece (yes, it's just as dreamy as it sounds). But honestly, the best part is hearing my clients tell me how at ease they felt during their shoot or how they saw themselves in a whole new light through my lens. The best compliment is when I hear someone say that I made them feel beautiful or that the session was effortless, easy, and so much fun.
This past year has been a whirlwind. I lost my mom on New Year's Eve, and she was not only my everything but also my biggest supporter. Caring for her taught me some of life's most important lessons: love deeply and don't wait for the "perfect" moment. Life is happening now—so make the most of it!
I dedicate this letter to her and would love the honor of capturing your family's special moments.
See you around the neighborhood and have a Happy Thanksgiving!

op into Steph Weibring's Joy Creative Shop off Forest Lane, and you will be immersed in a bright, cheerful, and perfectly organized space. Vibrantly patterned wrapping paper, adorned with playful and imaginative designs, stands proudly beside shelves filled with stickers and notepads in cheerful hues like poppy, turquoise, orange, and mint. Stripes, dots, and paper products in distinctively cool fonts beckon you to pick them up. Pens of all colors wait neatly next to paper pads, enticing you to jot something. At the helm of this paper paradise is Preston Hollow resident Steph Weibring.
Steph and her husband both hail from North Texas. "I am so proud to be born and raised Texan!" Steph says proudly. "I was born in Plano, Texas. I met Matt riding the school bus from Plano to Bishop Lynch High School when I was a freshman! Fast forward many years and several moves. We loved the idea of the Preston Hollow area. For us, we're set on Catholic school for our family. We knew Preston Hollow had many school options that were close by, so it was a perfect fit to settle down and start our family."
Gifting is a heartfelt way of expressing love and care for family & friends, rooted in the selfless joy of making others feel special. “ “
Their three children—Marlie (15), Ben (12), and Charlie (8)—keep their family bustling on the weekends with basketball (Marlie will play with Bishop Lynch this winter), golf, lacrosse, soccer, and baseball (Ben & Charlie). Matt has greatly influenced the children's pursuits on the field. He played sports in high school, college, and even professionally as a golfer.
Steph's career began at the University of Oklahoma, where she first dipped her toes into the world of graphic design. After a brief detour to the University of Cincinnati, where her love for the craft blossomed, she returned to OU, graduating with a degree that paved the way for her future. "I started my first stationery and greeting card business as a senior at OU and found my way to Joy Creative Shop in 2010," Steph shares.
Fast-forward to 2010, shortly after the birth of her first child, Marlie. Like many new moms, Steph was navigating the complex balance between her work and her new role as a mother. As her babies grew and became more independent, Steph was able to dedicate more time to her fledgling stationery business.
"I've grown my business side by side with my growing family," Steph reflects with a smile. "I started right after Marlie was born, and as the kids grew, so did Joy Creative Shop." She describes her early years working during nap times and late into the night, balancing the needs of her young family while also nurturing the business. "Once they were all in school full-time, it marked a huge turning point," Steph explains. "That’s when I shifted from growing to scaling the business. I have had moments of feeling
behind, or our growth has been slow, but it's truly been the perfect timing, and I'm right where I want to be in my family life and business life. The key as a young mom was finding something that I enjoyed and was good at to keep involved in my creative life, and when I had more time, I was able to go a bit faster, rather than wondering, 'What will I do now that I have all this time back.' It's a juggling act, but one I'm so grateful for."
Her family has been a critical support system throughout this journey. "They've all been a part of it—helping with pop-up shops, counting envelopes, or even, in Charlie's case, covering himself in stickers and declaring himself the Joy Creative Shop mascot," Steph laughs. The Weibring kids have grown up watching their mom work tirelessly, and they've witnessed firsthand the joy, hard work, commitment, and fulfillment that come from running a small business. "I'm proud that they think of me as a stay-athome mom, even though I've been working on my business every step of the way. They've seen me live out my passion, and that's something I hope they carry with them."
In the Weibring household, gifting is a heartfelt way of expressing love and care for family and friends, rooted in the selfless joy of making others feel special. "We've always taught our kids the importance of giving thoughtful gifts," Steph explains. From a young age, Marlie, Ben, and Charlie were guided through the process of selecting gifts, not just to pick out items but to thoughtfully consider why each gift would be meaningful to the recipient. "We've always focused on the joy that comes from finding the perfect gift and watching the receiver's reaction."
One story, in particular, stands out in Steph's mind—the year Ben gifted his grandmother ten packs of Handi-Wipes for Christmas. "He knows she always carries them with her, so it was the perfect, thoughtful gift. My mom thought it was hilarious, and it just goes to show how much the kids pay attention to the little things," Steph says, beaming. It's these kinds of moments that fuel her philosophy behind Joy Creative Shop, where she helps busy moms—and anyone else—gift thoughtfully and beautifully.
"We often say at JCS that sometimes we are the gift, sometimes we're the accessory, but we always want to be part of the thoughtfulness behind it."
While Steph appreciates the convenience of a last-minute Amazon gift, she believes that nothing beats the impact of a thoughtfully wrapped, personalized present. "A personalized gift shows that you've thought ahead, planned, and made the effort," she explains. "It's about making the receiver feel special, knowing that they were on your mind."
When asked about the best gift she's ever received, Steph pauses. "That's a tough one," she admits. "I love unique, out-ofthe-box gifts, especially art. Some of my favorite gifts have been pieces from local Dallas artists like Carrie Song and Katie Craig. I love giving art, too—it's such a personal and meaningful gift."
Beyond the walls of Joy Creative Shop and the bustle of family life, Steph and her family have found a community they love in Preston Hollow. Having moved to the area in 2011 after living in Plano for six years, they knew they wanted to settle somewhere close to the Catholic schools they'd envisioned for their kids. Preston Hollow, with its mature neighborhoods and central location, was the perfect fit. "We love it here," Steph says warmly. "I feel safe; our neighbors are kind, and it's a place where our kids can explore freely."
The family often takes advantage of their proximity to the Northaven Trail, where they walk or ride bikes together. "I feel so fortunate to have access to that—it's one of the things we love most about living here." When they're not outdoors, you can often find them grabbing a quick lunch at Torchy's or The Gem or enjoying dinner at local favorites like Hudson House, Onesan, or Remmy's. For Steph, who runs the JCS office and shop near Preston & Forest, the convenience of having so many great spots nearby is just another reason why Preston Hollow feels like home.
As Steph Weibring tidies up the shelves of her shop before closing for the day, surrounded by colors, patterns, and thoughtful details, she reflects on the journey that brought her here. "The magic is in the details," she says. "Whether it's a beautifully wrapped gift or a handwritten note, it's those little things that make life more joyful." For Steph, Joy Creative Shop is more than a business—it's her way of spreading that magic, one thoughtful moment at a time.

olidays have a special magic, don’t they? They’re a patchwork of family traditions passed down like cherished heirlooms, with each generation adding its own flavor. Some families go all-in on frying their turkey, others swear by a secret family recipe, and then there are the wise ones who skip the kitchen marathon altogether and dial up a Greenberg-smoked turkey.
In our household, my mom was the undisputed queen of the kitchen during the holidays. As the oldest sibling, even at 60, she ruled Thanksgiving with an iron spatula—her younger brother and sisters dutifully fell in line for shopping and cooking, no questions asked. She earned the affectionate nickname "The Poodle Dog," a nod to her bossy streak, but truth be told, no one ever complained when the feast hit the table. Her ‘bark’ came with seriously tasty rewards.
After she passed, I found myself staring down some pretty big shoes (and a turkey baster) in a mild state of panic, wondering how we’d ever pull off Thanksgiving without her. But true to form, Mom’s “Poodle Dog” ways came through—she’d sent us all a detailed email before her last Thanksgiving, complete with shopping lists, recipes, and step-by-step instructions. That email became my lifeline, and let me tell you, her cornbread dressing is every bit as good as I remembered.
Turns out, bossiness runs in the family, but this recipe is as easy as pumpkin pie. Keep reading for all the details!
1/2 lb. Jimmy Dean w/ sagepork sausage
5c. toasted white bread cubes
4 eggs, slightly beaten
1 c. celery, chopped
1 c. onion, chopped
1/2 c. bell pepper, chopped
1 box sliced fresh mushrooms
1 stick butter, melted
8 c. crumbled corn bread
5 c. canned chicken broth
1/2 tsp. salt or to taste
1/4 tsp. black pepper, or to taste
1 c. chopped pecans, toasted lightly
handful of chopped parsley
one chopped apple
thyme and sage, to taste
Brown sausage, drain, and crumble. Sautée celery, onion, bell pepper and mushrooms in the stick of butter. In a very large bowl, place the cornbread and bread cubes. Add sausage, vegetables, chicken broth, beaten eggs, seasonings, and remaining ingredients. Very lightly, mix all ingredients together, keeping the mixture as fluffy as you can. You don’t want it to pack together too much. Turn the mixture into the large baking pan and heat at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes.

hen Preston Hollow teen Wyatt Gamble got involved with the Esperanza Project, it wasn't just another volunteer opportunity but a life-changing experience. Introduced to the organization through family friends, Wyatt first helped set up one of their galas. But the real adventure began when he joined a service trip to Guatemala in the summer of 2023.
Over the past two summers, Wyatt and the Esperanza Project team traveled to remote communities in Guatemala, where they installed safe, efficient stoves and water filters. "Before my first time going on the Guatemala trip, I understood that many people in the country were living in poverty, but I never fully understood what living in poverty was like until I interacted with the families we were helping," Wyatt explains. "The stoves we installed prevent people from getting cancer caused by smoke inhalation, and the water filters provide clean drinking water."
The impact of this work left a lasting impression. "My best memory was how grateful the people were after we installed their stove and water filter," Wyatt recalls. The experience also brought a new perspective on life in the U.S. "I realized how many more opportunities are offered in America than what's available in Guatemala. Working there truly gave me a completely different perspective."
For those considering getting involved, Wyatt has this advice: "I would recommend working with IEP. They are very caring and passionate about helping people in need. And there's always a good group of Dallas high school students who go on the trip." As a freshman at the University of Arkansas, Wyatt is carrying with him the valuable lessons of hard work, building connections, and the importance of helping others into his college journey.

ray School of Music, founded by Vicki Gray in 1968, is one of Dallas' oldest and most respected music schools. Located in the heart of Preston Hollow, this all-Steinway school offers expert instruction in piano, voice, guitar, violin, and drums, with teachers holding master’s and doctorate degrees. Known for blending tradition with a fun, creative environment, Gray School of Music has been nurturing students of all ages for over 50 years, fostering a lifelong love for music.
Preston Hollow Neighbors: Gray School of Music has been around for over 50 years. What's your secret to such longevity in the world of music education?
Vicki Gray: A little bit of passion, a lot of patience, and, of course, making sure even the family dogs appreciate music! They’ve sat under the piano for years, soaking it all in. If a dog can enjoy a good sonata, I’d say we’re on to something.
PHN: So, what's it like having all three of your children as piano teachers with doctorate degrees?
VG: Imagine holiday dinners with constant debates over Chopin’s best etudes! We’re a musical family through and through, but we still know when to put the sheet music down and just enjoy the moment—or at least try!
PHN: What’s the vibe like at the Gray School of Music?
VG: Think of it like this: world-class teachers with master’s and doctorate degrees, Steinway pianos in every room, and an environment that’s serious about music, but doesn’t take itself too seriously. We know how to have fun while learning.
It's not uncommon for a student to leave class feeling like they just had a mini concert!
PHN: You've taught for 56 years! What keeps you inspired to continue?
VG: Every student brings something new. There’s something magical about seeing a child’s face light up when they finally nail that tricky piece. Plus, the challenge of turning new students into future performers never gets old. It helps that the dogs keep me company during practice, too.
PHN: How does your school stand out from the crowd?
VG: We’re one of the oldest music schools in Dallas, and we’ve stayed true to our roots: quality teaching, a warm atmosphere, and Steinway pianos in every studio. We have everything from recitals to fun festivals. You could say we’re a school with classical charm and a bit of fun flair. We’ve been at it for 50 years and counting, so I think we’re doing something right!
PHN: Finally, any advice for someone thinking about starting music lessons?
VG: Don’t wait! Music is for everyone, whether you're six or sixty. The sooner you start, the sooner you’ll experience the joy. And if the family dog starts sitting under the piano, you’ll know you’re doing well!

JAMES EASTERLING, A GRADUATE FROM TEXAS TECH UNIVERSITY WITH A BS IN BUSINESS MANAGEMENT AND MARKETING BRINGS A UNIQUE BLEND OF EXPERIENCE AS A FORMER COLLEGIATE AND PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL ATHLETE, COUPLED WITH HIS CERTIFICATION AS AN ADVANCED PERSONAL TRAINER AND CERTIFIED SELF DEFENSE INSTRUCTOR.
I have been concerned about my family’s personal safety lately, especially my teenage daughter driving alone. I read about a few recent incidents in Dallas that were concerning. Can you help us to better prepare to go out in public and stay safe? What do you recommend?
Dear Reader,
Great timing for your question because I just had a client who was unfortunately attacked walking to her car with her young daughter. She was pushing her shopping cart to her car with her daughter in the grocery store parking lot when a man ran up and grabbed her 7-year-old daughter. My client quickly responded by attacking the man, successfully pushing him to the ground, grabbing her daughter, getting into her car, and speeding away.
Unfortunately, it is a statistical fact that women are considered easier targets for criminals to attack or take advantage of. And for this reason, I feel adamant about women being properly prepared and equipped to protect
themselves. Self-defense training is becoming increasingly necessary for women to learn and engage in. Self-defense isn’t just about knowing how to protect yourself—it’s about having the confidence in your strength to do it. It also requires the mental discipline to stay calm, think quickly, and react effectively, applying what you’ve learned in the moment.
In addition to learning self-defense training, a few other important things I always tell my clients are:
• Always be aware of your surroundings. Don’t enter or exit your vehicle or walk anywhere looking at your phone. Keep your head on a swivel.
• Look strangers in the eye and let them know that you see them and that you know they’re there.
• Keep Bear Spray with you. Bear Spray is a non-lethal deterrent used to stop aggressive or charging bears. It is made from capsaicin and is about three times more potent than pepper spray and smaller self-defense products. It dispenses in a fog pattern vs. a stream output and inflames the eyes and upper respiratory system, stopping an aggressor in his tracks and prohibiting him from further attacking. Because of its potency, it is not listed as a mainstream self-defense mechanism for humans; I recommend it because it is more effective than pepper spray in ensuring the attacker must stop, is non-lethal, and shoots up to 30-35 ft. away. Keep one can in the front part of your car, like the side compartment of your driver's side door, and perhaps one in the backdoor or the trunk where you can easily access it when putting up groceries, etc.
I encourage my female clients to focus on being strong, not just on specific physical traits they desire. It’s great to look fit, but if you ever find yourself needing to defend yourself, you want to actually be strong enough to do it— just like my client, who never expected to be in that situation but was able to fight back when it mattered most.
EDITOR'S NOTE: JAMES WILL ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS ABOUT FITNESS, TRAINING, AND SELF-DEFENSE IN UPCOMING ISSUES. GOT A QUESTION YOU'D LIKE TO SEE ANSWERED? EMAIL KATEWARD@BESTVERSIONMEDIA.COM AND YOU MIGHT SEE IT IN AN UPCOMING ISSUE!

njoying the Preston Hollow neighborhood and their daily barking fits as they save their families’ lives from the mailman, the Amazon truck, and other passing dogs, Brumley and Roxy are living the sweet life. These two neighborhood characters are a perfect pair.
Brumley, named after a lake in East Texas, is a delightful six-year-old Golden Retriever, often referred to by the family as “the perfect child.” Roxy, often called Roo, is an aging 12-year-old cockapoo. Roo is more intelligent than her own good and has separation anxiety, yet is often referred to by the family as Brumley’s emotional support animal. The two are inseparable.
Having just moved to the area three years ago, the two are trauma-bonded by the cross-country move, which turned their whole world upside down. However, they have adjusted well and enjoy walks around Preston Hollow, keeping the yard clear of all squirrels and rabbits and ensuring every sunlit spot on the floor is accounted for and napped in.
Occasionally, Brumley and Roxy get a little too big for their britches in the household hierarchy and cause all kinds of mischief, but the family often babysits the grand cats (enormous Siberian Forest Cats), who keep them in line. Life is always fun and full with Brumley and Roxy around.
