The Cupcake Gypsies 415 N. Cleveland Ave.,Loveland,

With a rotating menu of cup cake varieties, it’s no wonder The Cupcake Gypsies have amassed a local following with fans who voted the sweet shop as the best bakery as well as the best dessert spot.

Just a Pinch Bakery opened a few years after chef Stanley Martin and his wife relocated to Colorado and couldn’t track down their No. 1 food craving: kolaches, a tradi tional Czech pastry of soft yeast dough cradling fruit, cheese or even meat. Soon the Martins began whipping up their own kolaches, but as they explain, “It would be selfish not to share this delicious treat ” Thus, with little more than a dream and an oven, Just A Pinch Bakery was born. Today the Martins serve kolaches such as mushroom brie, green chili egg and strawberry with or ange cream cheese in addition to plenty of other bakery treats.

Second: Donut Haus Baker y, 265 E. 29th St., Loveland (970) 278-1464,

Some inventive flavors on the daily rotating menu have included Rocky Road, Ama retto Spice, a coconut Snow ball and Stranahan’s Red Velvet which is topped with a crown of Stranahan’s Whiskey buttercream and garnished with red glitter sprinkles. But those with a sweet tooth can’t seem to get enough of the shop’s peach creations, and baker owner Andrea Strick is always coming up with new frosting and topping combinations for peachy keen customers. Some of her recent cupcakes have included the Vintage Peach that’s topped with vanilla bean bourbon buttercream and garnished with brown sugar or the West ern Slope, a peach cupcake with cherry buttercream and a dehydrated apple slice garnish.

The Instagram-worthy, family-owned shop is located in downtown Loveland and offers a daily rotating cupcake menu of five to six cupcakes, which always includes a gluten-free and a vegan option. Strick also uses organic and locally sourced ingredients in her baked goods.

Beyond cupcakes, The Cupcake Gypsies sells a limited number of other fresh-baked goodies like cinnamon rolls, cake pops, pupcakes for dogs. Custom cakes can be ordered in advance and the shop caters weddings, birthdays and other events.

Locally-owned Wicked Tequila Room brought Loveland their first tequila-exclusive bar and have continued to innovate ever since. With limited operation during the pandemic years they made sure Love land wouldn’t be missing their favorite cocktails by making them available for online ordering and to-go friendly in the form of canned cocktails or pouches—an option they continue to offer

If you’re in the mood for a night out though, give Margarita Alley a go. Located between Wicked Tequila Room and Cactus Grille, it’s a small step into a cantina-style patio, but it feels a world away Perfect for whiling away a balmy evening. Creative and fun events—complete with drink specials— also give guests a party vibe to look forward to, without all the tedious planning.

The atmosphere alone is worth visiting for, but, let’s be honest; you’re there for the margs. If you’ve never been to Wicked Tequila Room, you might assume that a margarita is a margarita is a margarita... but you would be wrong. Not only do they have their own handcrafted versions, but they invite you to “Make your own” which leads to as many margs as there are individuals who drink them.

Nordy’s Bar-B-Que & Grill has been pro ducing delicious barbecue in Loveland for nearly 15 years. After being a presence in the Northern Colorado restaurant scene since 1997, Les Nordhagen and his son Eric, opened Nordy’s in 2008 and, the pitsmoked goodness has been pouring out of their kitchen ever since.

You’re going to want to make sure you come with an appetite when you visit Nordy’s. Every rib, brisket, pork, sausage and turkey is the juiciest, most tender meat around. But great barbecue is defined by the sauce, which is why they offer a lineup of original homemade sauces including their signature house sauce, Kansas City, Carolina Mustard, Texas, Jalapeño and Colorado Wildfire. They even offer a full gluten-free menu to make ordering for everyone easy.

The Black Steer

436 N. Lincoln Ave., Loveland, (970) 667-6679,

As a restaurant, you don’t reach 55 years old without doing something, or things, very right.

The Black Steer is a classic steakhouse with the ambiance to match. It is a cozy location where Loveland residents, old and new alike, go for an excellent steak. After aging in-house, their Natural USDA Choice Beef is cut and cooked to order daily; simple excellence. The per fectly done steaks are then paired up with made from scratch soups, salads, sides, dressings and desserts.

Steak might be their staple, but don’t discount their seafood. Trout, shrimp, tuna steaks and even lobster tails can satisfy any craving for seafood, but if you can’t choose between a go-to steak, split the difference and go for the surf and turf.

You might not expect a steakhouse to pay much attention to the greens, but once again The Black Steer proves itself exceptional in more areas than one. The Black Steer Salad is a meal unto itself with chicken or steak strips on a bed of greens, almonds and crunchy wonton strips topped with the house Black Steer dressing. Traditional Caesar, wedge and garden salads make a fresh addition to any meal.
