Korn Ferry 2025: Tourney creates fun for kids and adults

One of the best ways to ensure the growth of any sport or event is to get the kids involved.

When it comes to The Ascendant Presented by Blue, a Korn Ferry Tour golf tournament held each year at TPC Colorado golf course in Berthoud, making sure children and adults alike have a good time is at the core of what they do.

This year’s tournament is slated for July 10-13, with events kicking off as early as Monday, July 7 Popular returning features include the pro-am, junior pro-am and junior clinics, and this year some new features include a dedicated activity area for the youngsters and a new partnership with Colorado’s own Pins and Aces.

One of The Ascendant’s most popular events makes its return on July 7, which is also Youth Day. The Heron Lakes Junior Pro-Am kicks off around noon, matching up kids between the ages of 8 and 17 with a tour pro for a seven-hole, pro-am-style experience.

Starting in 2023, the Junior Pro-am has become one of the more popular events not only at the Ascendant, but at Korn Ferry events everywhere.

“It pairs kids with one of the tour players in a smaller version of the pro-am,” said The Ascendant Director Wayde Voss. “It’s in its third year of existence, and since then other Korn Ferry tournaments have implemented it.”

Each group consists of one tour professional and two juniors playing a scramble format. Each junior golfer receives a gift package, photos, invites to a reception and

awards following the event.

Another popular attraction is the July 7 Junior Clinic. Two free sessions are held for golfers between the ages of 5 and 15, one from 11 a.m. to noon and one from 1-2 p.m.

Held in the chipping, putting green and practice tee areas and taught by Korn Ferry Tour Professionals, children can learn about what life is like on the tour while getting tips for their golf games. (Rumor has it, some snacks are available at the end, too.)

Something new this year is the junior activity area, which will be located near holes Nos. 1 and 14. Rather than scrambling to find a babysitter this year, organizers have created an

area for children to have fun during the Thursday-Sunday tournament.

According to the tournament website, this is an area for “kids to have fun, make some noise and let loose during the event.”

Children can swing clubs, enjoy some different golf or non-golf-related activities or just run around and burn off some energy.

The Junior Activity Area will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day of the tournament (Thursday-Sunday).

For the older children (otherwise known as adults), the fun begins on Wednesday. The Pro-am is scheduled for that day along with a “Networking on the Green” event.

Then, the tournament itself kicks off at 6:30 a.m. Thursday morning. Groups are scheduled to start teeing off each morning at 6:30.

Special days include “Folds of Honor Friday” where organizers encourage attendees to wear red, white and blue attire. Saturday includes Blue Federal Credit Union Member Day, where members of Blue Federal Credit Union can show their Blue card and get in free.

Sunday is Pins and Aces Performance Day where folks wearing Pins and Aces attire receive free admission.

If you’re up for a week filled with golf and family fun, you’re in the right place.

This year’s tournament is scheduled for July 10-13, with events starting as early as Monday, July 7.

Driving economic and charitable impact: The Ascendant Golf Tournament boosts Northern Colorado and supports local nonprofits

The Ascendant Golf Tournament at TPC Colorado in Berthoud has been an economic boon for Northern Colorado since it joined the Korn Ferry Tour in September of 2018.

And while many area hotels, restaurants and other businesses have been beneficiaries of the tournament, organizers have also worked diligently to include and aid a number of nonprofits and charitable organizations over the years.

“This event has been able to donate to more than 30 organizations ranging across the Front Range since 2019,” said Tournament Manager Alyx Donahue. “Our mission is simple: We are dedicated to making an impact in our community through giving back tournament proceeds along with assisting specific charitable initiatives.”

Donahue sited the impressive support the tournament, golfers and organizers have received as some of the motivation behind

finding ways to help others.

“This community and state has been so great to us that we want to be able to help different organizations tell their stories at our event and be able to create lasting relationships with them,” Donahue said. “There are some charities that are close to the heart of the staff, TPC Colorado and ownership, but we also ask our partners who they support and see how we can get involved.”

Donahue noted a few of the charities the tournament has been able to donate to, including

First Tee of Green Valley Ranch, Veterans Community Project, Berthoud Adaptive Park, Life for the Innocent, Alliance for Suicide Prevention, House of Neighborly Services, NoCo CARES, Community Food Share of Boulder County and Folds of Honor, among others.

Besides just raising money, the Ascendant works to raise awareness and help bring together supporters and those in need.

“For instance, we have a partner that donates to Folds of Honor but wanted to tell the story of Folds of Honor to get the full impact of this organization,” Donahue said. “We decided to do an activation on Hole 13 – which is the longest par 5 on PGA TOUR (773 yards!) – to honor the 13 folds in a flag. We told the story along the cart path of what each fold meant and how to fold it properly

“We also had a birdie counter, so however many birdies were on the made on the 13th hole, X amount of money was donated. I say X amount because anyone can pledge a different amount of money to be donated. Some would pledge $5 or $10 for each birdie. We received a lot of incredible feedback from that activation from spectators, partners and Folds of Honor.

Donahue said within the last two years the Ascendant has donated more than $20,000 to Folds of Honor

So, whether you’re a casual fan, an avid follower or even a participant, keep your eyes peeled for ways the tournament (and you) can help out some worthy causes.

JOHNNY KEEFER

One of the brightest rising stars on the Korn Ferry Tour, Keefer won the Veritex Bank Championship back in April with a winning score of 30-under 254, which tied the thirdlowest 72-hole score in Korn Ferry Tour history. A 24-year-old rookie, Keefer finished No. 25 on the 2024 PGA TOUR University Ranking – the final position which awarded PGA TOUR University performance benefits –and finished No. 1 in the Fortinet Cup standings on PGA TOUR Americas. In 27 PGA TOUR-sanctioned starts since turning professional out of Baylor University last summer, Keefer has two wins (one on Americas, one on Korn Ferry Tour), six runner-up finishes (two this season), and a total of 14 top-10s. Off the strength of his professional record, Keefer moved into the top 100 of the Official World Golf Ranking and will be the highest-ranked player in the field for The Ascendant presented by Blue.

Title contenders to watch

DAVIS CHATFIELD

A 26-year-old Notre Dame alum, Chatfield is in his third consecutive season on the Korn Ferry Tour. Enjoying his strongest season to date, Chatfield already has five top-10s, two more than in his two previous seasons on Tour combined. Two of those top-10s were runner-up finishes at the Astara Chile Classic presented by Scotiabank in March, and the UNC Health Championship presented by STITCH in early June. In two previous appearances at The Ascendant presented by Blue, Chatfield has two made cuts, though he finished outside the top 40 both times. Given his improvements this season, it stands to reason Chatfield can put himself in contention this time around at TPC Colorado.

NEAL SHIPLEY

A 24-year-old rookie, Shipley is another rising star with a victory on his resume this season, as he defeated Seungtaek Lee on the fifth hole of a suddendeath playoff at the LECOM Suncoast Classic. Shipley burst onto the global golf scene last summer after he finished as the low amateur at both the 2024 Masters Tournament and 2024 U.S. Open. Shipley earned exemptions for those major championships with a runner-up finish at the 2023 U.S. Amateur, where he lost the championship match to Nick Dunlap, now a two-time PGA TOUR winner. Shipley is among the top players on Tour in Total Driving, which should bode well for his chances at The Ascendant presented by Blue.

KENSEI HIRATA

A 24-year-old rookie, Hirata was a six-time winner on the Japan Golf Tour prior to taking up membership on the Korn Ferry Tour this season. Hirata posted a runner-up finish in his Korn Ferry Tour debut back in January – which followed a top-25 as a sponsor exemption at the Sony Open in Hawaii on the PGA TOUR – and he added top-10s in March and June. Hirata stands inside the top 150 of the Official World Golf Ranking, and The Ascendant presented by Blue could be the breakthrough performance which propels him to the PGA TOUR at season’s end.

CHRISTO LAMPRECHT

A 6-foot-8 South African, Lamprecht finished No. 2 in the 2024 PGA TOUR University Ranking and posted a T5 finish at the 2024 Ascendant presented by Blue, which was just his fourth Korn Ferry Tour start to that point. The Georgia Tech alum recorded a pair of top-five finishes two of this season’s first four events, which has him hovering just outside the top 20 of the 2025 Korn Ferry Tour Points List. Lamprecht also leads the Korn Ferry Tour in driving distance this season, which should once again put him in contention at TPC Colorado.

2024 Champion

Congratulations to our 2024 Champion, Cristobal Del Solar, who achieved a record-breaking total score of 22 under par (266) for all four rounds! With the win, Cristobal secured his PGA TOUR card for the 2025 season!! #TOURBOUND

TPC Colorado: A premier PGA TOUR tournament venue for players and fans

The course

TPC Colorado in Berthoud, Colorado, stands as a modern, tournament-ready golf facility built to professional standards. Designed by Arthur Schaupeter Golf Course Architects, the course is part of the PGA TOUR’s prestigious TPC Network and is the only PGA TOUR-managed venue in the state. For fans attending a tournament at TPC Colorado, the experience offers not only high-level competition but also an engaging look at a course that tests the world’s best while remaining thoughtfully accessible to recreational golfers

CHAMPIONSHIP-CALIBER

DESIGN AND FLEXIBILITY

TPC Colorado was designed from the start to accommodate professional events. The course stretches up to 7,991 yards, making it one of the longest on the PGA TOUR, but with multiple large tees on every hole, it can also be scaled down to just over 4,150 yards for everyday players. This approach allows the same holes seen during tournament play to be enjoyed by amateurs at more manageable

distances.

Tournament spectators will notice that each hole is crafted to offer strategic variety. Players face decisions on nearly every shot – whether to attack or play safe –depending on their strengths. This versatility not only challenges the field but also adds drama and excitement for fans watching from the galleries.

PGA TOUR AFFILIATION AND SIGNATURE MOMENTS

TPC Colorado is best known as the host site for the Korn Ferry Tour’s TPC Colorado Championship at Heron Lakes, a PGA TOUR-sanctioned event. The tournament has gained traction as one of the most demanding and scenic stops on the tour, drawing strong fields and crowds annually.

One of the course’s standout features is Hole 13, a 773-yard par 5 – the longest hole played in any PGA TOUR-sanctioned event. Watching professionals attempt to manage this hole, whether going for distance or playing positionally, offers a unique viewing opportunity and often becomes a focal point

during tournament rounds. The rough and native areas across the course have matured in recent seasons, tightening landing zones and increasing the penalty for errant shots. For spectators, this elevates the quality of play and creates more movement on the leaderboard.

COURSE FEATURES AND SPECTATOR APPEAL

TPC Colorado’s layout includes a mix of short and long holes, many of which play from elevated ridgelines that offer wide views of the Front Range and Longs Peak Other holes trace the shorelines of nearby reservoirs, incorporating elements like stacked-sod pot bunkers and fescue-lined fairways – design features inspired by Scottish golf tradition

These visual contrasts not only enhance the player experience but also provide excellent sightlines and staging areas for fans. The elevation changes and open spaces make it easier to follow groups across several holes or set up in key locations to view extended portions of the course

During tournament days, amenities such as practice facilities, the clubhouse, and public viewing areas are accessible and well-integrated into the event layout, contributing to a smooth and immersive experience for attendees.

AWARDS AND INDUSTRY RECOGNITION

TPC Colorado has earned widespread recognition since opening:

GolfWeek named it one of the Best Courses You Can Play in Colorado (2021, 2022)

Colorado AvidGolfer awarded it Best Front Range/Northeast Region Public/Resort Course (2024, 2025) and previously gave it a 2020 Caggy Award for Best Golf Course in the Front Range Golf Digest ranked it the 3rd Best New Private Course in the country in 2019

These accolades reflect the course’s quality and growing status within the golf community, both locally and nationally

VISITING AND WATCHING AT TPC COLORADO

While the course operates primarily as a private facility, its role as a PGA TOUR tournament host opens access to the public during Korn Ferry Tour events. The venue is structured to handle large crowds, with well-marked spectator routes and accessible viewing spots that bring fans close to the action.

For those attending a tournament at TPC Colorado, the course offers a rare combination of elite PGA TOUR competition and spectator-friendly design. From dramatic tee shots to demanding approaches and strategic risk-reward holes, every round delivers moments worth watching.

TPC Colorado is Colorado’s only PGA TOUR managed course in the state

The Ascendant Junior and Pro-Am

Wayde Voss isn’t content with just putting on a golf tournament. The PGA Director is one of the faces behind The Ascendant, presented by Blue, which has been twice named the Korn Ferry Tournament of the Year. Voss wants something bigger than merely a great golf tournamenthe also wants to engage the entire community.

Tournament week will feature several forms of entertainment, interaction with special guests, player participation in community events, and collaboration with area groups and organizations on activities and operation of the tournament.

“We have watched this event grow year to year, and now we’re bringing more than golf. Even people who don’t watch the sport will find a reason to come out and enjoy the experiences we have to offer,” says Voss.

Tournament week kicks off on Monday, July 10, with a junior golf clinic open to the public. Local kids will have the

opportunity to practice skills like chipping and putting with the help of Korn Ferry players. Participants will rotate through various stations, having fun and learning more about the sport of golf.

“This has always been such a high-demand event that we doubled the size this year to offer two clinics,” explains Voss. “The goal here is for young people to engage with golf and find a lifelong enjoyment of the sport.” Participants can register for the clinics online.

Tuesday, July 11, affords yet another opportunity for junior golfers to hone their skills and meet up-and-coming professional golfers “The junior pro-am has become one of our favorite events and something that sets this tournament apart from others,” says Voss.

Junior players, ages 8 to 17, are given the opportunity to tee off alongside a Korn Ferry player for seven holes. Each of the young golfers will also receive a gift package, photos, invites to a reception and awards the following play, all held at the 18 Green Hospitality. “We were the

first tournament to offer this kind of unique experience for youth,” says Voss.

The Junior Pro-Am has 60 total spots available, and according to Voss, there are still several spots remaining to be filled “We want to grow this event, so we want families to go to our website and check it out,” he suggests.

Voss and his team have found other ways to introduce area kids to golf through collaborations with local organizations. “Part of our junior program connects kids in the Larimer County Boys and Girls Club with our operations team so they spend a day learning about what it’s like to run a PGA event, and we partner with the Colorado Golf Association Solich Caddie and Leadership Association to give kids the experience of what’s it’s like to be a professional caddie,” he explains.

Participants in these junior programs not only learn to appreciate the sport of golf but also acquire knowledge about the business of golf. They learn about golf course management and landscape and aspects of course and tournament design It’s all about exposing them to the game and the professional opportunities it has to offer.

The Ascendant also has plenty to offer young people and families who don’t play golf. There is a ‘Family Zone’ with a ninja course and

STEM demonstrations, and the Colorado Rapids have an activation planned for Sunday, July 13. “This is a fun event for the whole community, even if they are not interested in golf, specifically,” says Voss. “There really is something for everyone by design.”

For serious golfers, a Pro-Am tournament is scheduled for Wednesday, July 9, offering a rare opportunity to golf alongside professionals and form personal connections with players. It all begins with the Pairings Party on Tuesday night, where teams of four amateur golfers are each assigned two Korn Ferry players. This event is all about building excitement and anticipation for the pro-am experience and determining the pairings. Guests will enjoy food, drinks, and networking opportunities while learning which professional they will be playing with. There are also plenty of giveaways, including cool gifts from Arvada-based Pins and Aces Golf Company.

“We’re finding ways to use this tournament to connect people who already network around golf and to introduce more people to the game who maybe wouldn’t even know about the event or come to the event,” says Voss. “It’s so cool to have this in the community, and we want everyone to come out and enjoy it.”

Junior players, ages 8 to 17, are given the opportunity to tee off alongside a Korn Ferry player for seven holes.
