stes Park…land of the mountains, lakes and streams and abundant sunlight. We protect and nurture our skin in the summer months, but what about our hair? Well, Well, Well…water is NOT all the same. While so many in our area rely on wells for our water source, what mother nature shares can actually create havoc on our hair. Hard water can make your hair more difficult to style. It makes hair feel l ess pliable, and if you’re doing a round brush blow-dry, it really doesn’t want to take the shape of the hairbrush. Also, hard water causes color-treated hair to fade quicker and mineral buildup can interfere with color. Our area’s iron deposits, like that from calcium salts, can change the color. Even the iron from pipes can also have an effect. The good news is that there are ways to adjust to the hardness of the water. Glow carries products from Malibu – Hard Water Wellness – to use to combat well water woes. A pre-shampoo treatment to protect hair before water hits it, and limiting the amount of washes you have per week. It’s all about exposure – if you live in a place with hard water and you have hair that tends to get oily, dry shampoo might be your BFF. Sunlight is probably the next major issue in our area. Sun rays at higher altitude can be very harsh, hair also

bleaches and dries out very rapidly in intense sunlight. Many people who previously did not need conditioner on their hair, find that at higher altitudes they need to do so. Hair masks are moisturizing and nurturing for your locks on a regular basis, especially on color processed hair. Regular at home conditioning treatments are excellent treatments, and conditioning shampoos can offer a light conditioning option for people who dislike the heavy feel of a separate conditioner. Products such as Sunscreen For Hair by Aveda is great to protect hair’s condition and color. The other major factor for our hair is the wind. It can suck the moisture out of both your skin and scalp, and wreak havoc with almost any hairstyle. And of course, having a top notch stylist is the key to any hair’s success. Seasoned and regular education for our stylists allows us to keep our clients informed of new practices and products to safeguard those luscious locks for year to come!
