STAYING WELL EPH wellness initiatives, progress

By Estes Park Health For the Trail-Gazette

Despite the great challenges in health care in 2020, Estes Park Health has had a remarkably progressive year so far. In fact, there have been many silver linings that have resulted from the challenges of 2020. Safety of patients, visitors, and staff has always been, and always will be, at the forefront of every action we take, and we’ve been able to make several key advancements in safe, quality care for our Estes community.

First and foremost, after many years of needing a true urgent care facility in Estes Park, EPH was presented

with an opportunity to finally build an Urgent Care Center at a wonderful mid-town location at 420 Steamer Drive. With the building owners (Alarado), Saunders Heath Construction, and many other participating contractors and suppliers, and with help from the Town of Estes Park and the state overseers, we were able to open the Urgent Care Center in late May of 2020, just in time for the busy tourist season. Our urgent care services help folks with minor injuries or illnesses get appropriate care without having to visit the EPH Emergency Department.

In addition, we moved our Rehabilitative Services (physical, speech, and occupational therapy) and many of our Specialty Clinic services to that new building. The view from our Rehab gym is breathtaking. The Urgent Care Center has been a remarkable success already, and we expect it to be a key part of healthcare in Estes Park for many years to come.

In addition to this great step forward for local healthcare, EPH has made great strides at the EPH campus at 555 Prospect Avenue. In March, the state-mandated COVID shutdown of elective and non-critical servicesslowed things down. In May and June, we’ve been able to safely reopen our elective surgeries, our clinic, and other services to our community. During the shutdown, EPH built out additional negative-pressure rooms to handle COVID and other infectious diseases with maxim um safety. We went from having two negative pressure rooms to a surge capacity of ten such rooms.

In addition, we were able to launch our new telehealth program. This has long been a goal of EPH, to provide the see EPH, pg. 11
