Adult learning has undergone a significant transformation.

Traditionally, learning for adults meant attending workshops, seminars, or classes that were often rigid and standardized. What do our graduates have in common? They have a strong desire to use business as a force for good in the world, and they want to stay ahead of the curve with changes happening in their industry by cultivating inner skills.

The new way emphasizes experiential learning, where integration and execution take center stage. Instead of merely consuming information, adults are now encouraged to apply what they learn in real-time, through projects, case studies, and practical exercises.

This method not only reinforces the knowledge but also ensures that it is relevant and immediately applicable. Time is Money. Learn at your speed, acustomized and affordable.

THE ADULT LEARNING REVOLUTION: THE COACHING EDGE

Adult learning has undergone a significant transformation. Traditionally, learning for adults meant attending workshops, seminars, or classes that were often rigid and standardized.

These sessions emphasized information overload, with learners passively absorbing content without much interaction or application. The focus was primarily on acquiring knowledge, often detached from realworld application This old way of learning, though informative, frequently left learners feeling overwhelmed and unsure how to implement what they had learned

Today, the approach to adult learning has evolved into something far more dynamic and effective.

However, the shift from the old to the new has revealed a critical gap: the integration of knowledge into actionable skills. Many adults still struggle with moving from understanding a concept to effectively executing it in their professional or personal lives.

This gap highlights the importance of not just learning for the sake of knowledge but focusing on how to implement and integrate that knowledge into everyday practice.

The new way of adult learning prioritizes the application and integration of knowledge. For learning to be truly effective, it must go beyond mere information acquisition. Adults must be equipped with the tools and strategies to execute what they learn, ensuring that knowledge translates into tangible, real-world outcomes

Here are some statistics that highlight the importance of continued learning for adults:

Skill Obsolescence: According to a 2020 report by the World Economic Forum, by 2025, 50% of all employees will need reskilling due to the adoption of new technology.

Career Advancement: A study by LinkedIn Learning in 2021 found that 94% of employees would stay at a company longer if it invested in their career development. Continuous learning is key to career growth and job satisfaction.

Adaptability to Change: A 2022 survey by PwC revealed that 77% of adults are willing to learn new skills or completely retrain in order to remain employable in the future

Earnings Potential: Research from the U S Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that adults with higher levels of education and ongoing learning opportunities earn significantly more over their lifetimes. For example, individuals with a bachelor’s degree earn approximately 67% more than those with just a high school diploma.

Mental Health and Cognitive Function: According to the Alzheimer’s Association, continuous learning can reduce the risk of cognitive decline. Engaging in lifelong learning activities has been shown to lower the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease by up to 47%

Job Security: A report by IBM in 2019 stated that 120 million workers in the world’s 12 largest economies may need to be retrained or reskilled due to automation and AI.

Increased Demand for Continuous Learning:

According to a LinkedIn Learning report, 94% of employees say they would stay at a company longer if it invested in their learning and development.

These statistics underscore the critical importance of continuous learning for adults in maintaining career relevance, improving earning potential, and ensuring long-term cognitive health

THIS IS

The traditional methods of learning, once effective, have given way to more dynamic, intuitive approaches. Understanding this shift and embracing life-long learning is crucial for staying competitive, adaptable, and fulfilled.

The Old Way of Learning: Static and Rigid

Lecture-Based: Learning: Historically, adult education relied heavily on lectures and memorization Learners were passive recipients of information

Limited Flexibility: Courses were often tied to physical locations and rigid schedules, making it difficult for working adults to continue their education.

Single-Track Career Focus: Learning was often linear, focusing on a single career path with little room for interdisciplinary growth.

The New Way of Learning: Dynamic and Intuitive

Interactive and Collaborative: Modern adult learning emphasizes interactivity, with learners engaging in discussions, problem-solving, and collaboration

Flexibility and Accessibility: Online platforms and mobile learning have made education more accessible, allowing learning to fit into busy schedules.

Multi-Disciplinary Approach: Today’s learning encourages a broader skill set, with opportunities to explore multiple fields, fostering creativity and innovation.

Featured Interview Power Talks Excerpt

with Leona

Carolina: Welcome to our PWT Power Talk. We are speaking to our Powerful Women Today Mentor Expert Leona Krasner, Esq., MBA, Managing Partner at Krasner Law, PLLC, specializing in Family Law in New York City. Welcome. Leona.

Leona: Thank you so much for having me, Carolina.

Carolina: My pleasure. And today we're speaking about critical topics the element of coaching in traditional professions such as Law, Accounting and Financial Services to name a few. You are one of the pioneers who are integrating coaching into your Law practice. Let’s start with that.

Leona: I would love to. So, I'm a family lawyer, and my job is to help folks reach their family law finish line. What that means is negotiations, courts, motion drafting, that kind of thing where traditionally my job is to get information for clients from clients to then use it to get to the clients in my finish line, if you will. But. What I see as my job is arming my clients with some of the mindsets and skills necessary once they reach the finish line in a drastically different place than when they first started on that family law road such as in prenups, separation, and divorce among others.

Carolina: Do you think having a clear and reasonable prenup helps in deter getting to the point where things cannot be recovered.

Leona: Yes, very much so. The biggest reason why people get divorced is not sexual infidelity. It's not that kind of cheating. It's financial infidelity i.e., keeping accounts private, having a gambling

addiction, having a spending addiction or not allowing the other side to spend any money or very little money, it's money issues that are the biggest reason why a relationship doesn't work out. And so, the purpose of a prenuptial agreement, by and large, its biggest function is to make a couple of things very clear: For example what is separate property and marital property meaning should the relationship not work out? What are people walking away with two? What is the current financial landscape? What accounts exist? What debt exists? What properties exist? And should someone lie about that, the whole prenup can go in the garbage as part of the divorce process.

So, it forces people to be honest from the get-go talk about money in a way that's hopefully not an ohh my gosh, how dare you upon discovering something.

At this time, it's two people who love each other, presumably want to get married and are kind of bearing their financial souls, if you will, and making a plan for the future, which I think is very healthy and is more likely to keep people together than the secrecy. And oh money.

Carolina: I do agree. You know people for some reason, which I don't understand why, financial intimacy is such a game ender. You know, a game changer for a lot of people. Many, many people begin an intimate relationship without really...

Powerful Women Today Magazine

knowing who the other person is, and what their financial history is. We are not thinking from a materialistic viewpoint, but the consequences of bad credit, prior responsibilities, you know, tolerance for risks, right? We often think of the Hollywood version of prenups. Women need to know what is truth and what is fiction. The myth is that men are usually the ones who think of a prenup and women are the recipients of that prenup and the emotional conflict that comes with it.

Leona: I would say. More women than men are approaching me about prenups these days. It's the woman. Who's the monied spouse who didn't get a prenup, who hoped that the man would find the job or get a better job, or whatever it is? Well, then in that divorce, the monied spouse is forced to pay spousal support or alimony to the deadbeat husband, and that makes them very mad.

Carolina: We need to understand and educate and don't buy into what a prenup is and whether they are good or bad for women?

Leona: I wish for someone who's a pillar of their community to remember that they're in the driver's seat and really takes stock of the car of the surroundings. Are you liking what you are doing? Are you in love with what you're doing? Right. Now. Or are you going through the motions because you feel you need to? Right. You're in the relationship because you need to be for some reason. You're in the job because you feel you. You ought to be doing it.

You're not too sure what else you ought to be doing. You've got friendships or relationships that are not serving you, but you feel you ought to continue them. For some reason. What is not serving you in your life? That is not bringing you happiness. What would you could do anything.

Carolina: As a person who has gone through a divorce. I can honestly tell you the grass is not greener out there. It really has to be right for you. Like, just like if you're entering a relationship or exiting a relationship, you really got to know why you are doing it. Just like you said. Are you in love with love? Or are you in love with this person? Right, so I am so looking forward to a lot more guidance from you helping us take a true stock of what is important in our lives and to protect ourselves and to protect the ones we love and the ones that depend on us. So, thank you so much, Leona. I'm going to put all your contact information down below and until next time. Thank you.

Leona: Thank you so much.

3 STEPS TO CONFIDENTLY AND ETHICALLY RAISE YOUR FEES

Charging what you’re worth is one of the most difficult things for experts.

Why? Typically, it’s either:

1)“It’s easy for me to , so I feel bad charging a lot!”

2)And/or “If I raise my rates, I won’t get any clients They can’t afford to pay more!”

Both are false beliefs that lead to either burnout or playing small.

However, charging more isn’t simply raising your rates I’m excited to share with you a simple 3-step process to charge more without it feeling awkward or wrong and have your new clients happy to pay you full price

Step 1: Know the Real-Life Value You Provide.

To gain clarity about your value, complete these sentences:

“With my expertise, I help <client type> solve/fix the problem/challenge of not ”

And the sad part is, when they can’t , that ultimately makes it impossible for them to ” Don’t hold back! Fight any urge to undervalue the difference you make!

Example, “With my sales coaching expertise, I help entrepreneurs solve the challenge of not having enough clients.

And the sad part is, when they can’t get enough clients, that ultimately makes it impossible for them to stay in business” Continue this dominoeffect list even further, by asking yourself, “And then what happens?”

Now pause and envision that person in your mind and the negative emotions they are experiencing Then finish this sentence:

After working with me, <client type> can now , which means they’re finally able to And because of that, they’re also able to ”

Continue this positive ripple-effect list further And again, take the time to envision this transformation from suffering into ease, joy, abundance, success, etc Now how do you feel about your work? Own that!

Now Step 2: Communicate That Transformation. Potential clients value the real-life outcomes they will experience, not the process you will take them through

Most service-based entrepreneurs, especially coaches and healers, get all excited about the process or methodology they use - they love talking about the “how’s”

INCUBATING FOR SUCCESS: THE POWER OF AN EARLY IDEATION ROADMAP

Success often begins with a single idea but transforming that idea into reality requires more than just inspiration. It demands a clear roadmap, early planning, and the right guidance. For women aiming to achieve their goals, coaching has become a powerful tool on this journey, helping to turn initial sparks of creativity into impactful outcomes.

The Transformative Impact of Coaching

Coaching acts as a catalyst for both personal and professional growth By offering tailored guidance and support, a coach helps individuals clarify their goals, build confidence, and develop actionable plans This support is particularly crucial in the early stages of ideation, where having a strategic approach can make the difference between a fleeting idea and a successful venture.

Take, for example, the story of Diana, the Sales Director for a major beer company when she decided to retire. She wasn’t sure what direction she wanted to take, until she decided to connect with her authentic self. By going deep within she realized the great passion she had for senior citizens That passion was gnawing at her and moving her forward Then she found her coach who guided her along her path Now, she has a very successful non-profit where she connects farm fresh food with senior citizen facilities

Through coaching, both ladies were able to refine their ideas, identify their target market, and create a business plan that led to the successful launch of their brand. The early ideation roadmap they developed with their coach provided a clear path forward, ensuring that their dreams became reality.

Practical Advice for Leveraging Coaching

For those looking to leverage coaching, the first step is finding the right coach This involves seeking someone whose expertise aligns with your goals and whose approach resonates with you The relationship between coach and client is built on trust, so it’s important to feel comfortable and supported

If you need an ideation coach, reach out to me As a Transformational Strategist, I helped Diana and Peggy and can guide you too through the process of bringing life to your passion and leveraging your expertise and experience to create a business designed uniquely for you.

Then there’s Peggy, who left the nursing field to pursue a career as a professional speaker. Now she not only has her own platform, products and programs, she has also become a coach and is certified to teach one of my group coaching programs

UNLOCKING SUCCESS WITHOUT SACRIFICE

In today’s demanding world, many women executives find themselves trading their quality of life for career advancement overwhelmed with work demands, sacrificing their health, and giving up time with family and friends, with no end in sight

I lived that struggle for years There was a time when I was working 50- to 60-hour weeks with a four-year-old and another little one on the way, a husband in law school, a step-daughter in high school, and a killer commute. While I was doing rewarding work as a change management consultant, advising some of the largest organizations in the world, I was burning out, exhausted, and sacrificing time with my friends, family, and myself

Just six months away from a promotion, I decided I was going to take a lower-paying, less stressful job and gave my two-weeks notice

Then, one of the most poignant moments of my life happened

My boss countered my resignation with a challenge to stay and work just 40 hours a week with two days working from home. This was unheard of in my industry.

I asked him to name one manager at a Big 4 consulting firm who had ever done that and made director. He looked away, then back at me, and said, “I think you can do it I think you do too much”

He didn't tell me what that "too much" was, just that he believed I could do it

Despite my doubts, I took the chance I began applying the change management methods and tools I used to make change happen for organizations to my own life, focusing on what truly mattered and eliminating the rest

Six months later, I had done it! I was promoted to Director, living a life I loved waking up to. Proving it IS possible to have success, including a quality life!

I knew that I had created something special that others badly needed. So, I eventually took the leap and started Journey Fuel to help individuals like you achieve success without sacrificing the careers they worked so hard to build and skip the decade of trial and error that it took me to carve out a fulfilling life of achievement no sacrifice required

I guide my clients to discover possibilities they can't see on their own, much like my boss did for me, with the added support and strategies to achieve them!

The Fusion of Eastern Modalities

M A G A Z I N E

THE FUSION OF EASTERN MODALITIES IN A WESTERN WORLD

As I sit down to write this article, I am struck by its title – The Fusion of Eastern Modalities in a Western World – in and of itself, it is a Western perspective. One of separation, an "us vs them”, a “you vs me”. Eastern philosophies are anchored in the concept of "oneness," the idea of interconnectedness and continuity, where there is no distinct beginning or end, and life flows in spirals rather than straight lines.

That being said, we’ve come a long way over the past 20 years What was once considered esoteric, such as yoga, is now mainstream Yoga studios are almost as common as gas stations, symbolizing this cultural shift Although we have westernized yoga a bit, turning it into more of a doing activity rather than a being practice, this evolution is a positive step towards embracing holistic wellness.

Both Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), have been practiced for thousands of years with a focus on achieving balance among mind, body, and spirit. These systems emphasize preventing disease through a combination of physical practices, diet, and mindfulness In contrast, the Western medical model often focuses on treating diseases after they occur, rather than on prevention

In the West, we are statistically stressed out, living in a state of survival 70 to 80% of the time. Chronic stress moves the brain and body out of homeostasis, leading to long-term health issues and dis-ease

Eastern practices, such as meditation and breathwork, aim to reduce stress and promote relaxation, helping to maintain the body's natural balance. These practices encourage individuals to look inward for healing, fostering a sense of self-awareness and inner peace.

Westerners are accustomed to seeking external solutions for health issues, often relying on medication and surgeries. Eastern philosophies, however, emphasize the importance of internal balance and self-care

I believe we live at the perfect time when modern science is catching up to ancient wisdom. The scientific method of inquiry proves that we can heal ourselves by thought alone, that we can remove energy blocks in our bodies with movement and sound, and that simple breathwork techniques can move us into rest and repair.

By embracing both the wisdom of the East and the advancements of the West, we are creating a comprehensive approach to health. This fusion is about evolving our perspectives on health and well-being and recognizing the interconnectedness of all aspects of our lives.

USING AI IN YOUR SALES PROCESS

USING AI IN YOUR SALES PROCESS

An AI Sales Call

I just connected with a guy on LinkedIn He then had an AI bot call me and try to have me set up a sales call The AI was so bad I was completely insulted that they used AI to do this sales call. The AI bot was horrible. It asked my major challenge and I said "staffing", it then asked who my target client was. I told it, that has misunderstood me. It apologized and asked me to confirm that I was trying to sell to staffing agencies. I set up a call, so I could waste their time too.

Maybe one day AI will be good enough to understand human relationships to have conversations, but I doubt I will be alive when that happens Until then please don't use AI to phone or write sales messages

“Most companies hide the fact they use AI. They know people don't like communicating with AI, but they are lured by reducing costs by using AI.”

UPDATE: I talked with the company using AI calls. They were very positive about the service as it saves them a lot of effort (salary dollars) I asked about quality and success versus RHI (Real Human Intelligence), and they were indifferent and were only focused on costs Interesting to note, they were the most expense of their competitors charging double others who use only North American RHI.

So, I wonder whether it is cheaper when you include overall success into the equation and not look at each step of the process as a cost item, versus the value it delivers.

Travel, date nights, more friend time, leisurely weekends, even picking up new hobbies my expectations were lofty. And finally, being on my schedule without catering to someone else's needs for a change

But times have changed. The typical empty nester scenario, where children move out permanently, is evolving. Nowadays, more adult children are returning home. Fewer pursue college, and job scarcity leads many back to the parental nest, transforming it into a multigenerational household

The impact on aspiring empty nesters is profound. Emotional dependencies, financial strains, and varied energies in the home create a rollercoaster of emotions and behaviors. While it's nice to have the kids around more, conflicts inevitably arise. Old dynamics resurface, demanding clear communication and energy cleansing to avoid reverting to past grievances

EMBRACING GROWTH: THE VALUE OF BEING COACHABLE AT 55+ YEARS

When we talk about being "coachable," we think of young folks looking for guidance. I am here to flip that idea on its head by showing why being willing to learn in your 50s and beyond is so beneficial.

For many women, there may be the feeling that to accept coaching is a sign of weakness or a sign that they don’t have it altogether, especially in a time where ageism and sexism are at an all-time high

I am calling for a shift in mindset that breaks free from age boundaries (and also those negative thoughts of deserving of help) when it comes to growing personally and professionally. Sure, older individuals have heaps of experience under their belt, but being open to fresh perspectives and feedback is the key to keep growing. There is no logical reason for women 55+ to not be coachable.

Anyone willing to grow is coachable. Being coachable doesn't just help you sharpen your skills and make better decisions; it also boosts your adaptability in a constantly changing work environment.

Moreover, coaching plays a vital role in helping folks navigate career changes, especially as retirement draws near or new opportunities pop up Teaming up with a coach or mentor allows those in their 50s and up to gain valuable insights, set clear goals, and steer their professional journey in the right direction

Taking a proactive approach to personal growth leads to a sense of satisfaction and relevance in a world where things are always evolving.

I want to also highlight the importance of humility and being open to constructive criticism as crucial elements of being coachable. By putting aside ego and embracing feedback, individuals can unlock their full potential and achieve greater success in their careers Seeing challenges as chances to learn, rather than roadblocks, and adopting a growthfocused mindset can propel individuals toward their goals

In a nutshell, this article powerfully argues for the timeless importance of coachability among those over 55. By staying receptive to new ideas, seeking wisdom from mentors, and nurturing a growth-driven attitude, mature individuals can keep on thriving in their professional and personal lives.

Remember, age should never stand in the way of learning and progress it should be seen as a gateway to exciting possibilities and even greater success

Defining Team Coaching

Team coaching is distinct from team development, training, mentoring, or consulting While team development and training focus on building skills and knowledge, and mentoring and consulting provide advice and expertise, team coaching delves deeply into the subsurface dynamics of team interactions A good team coach navigates seamlessly along the continuum between facilitation and coaching, addressing both surface-level communication and deeper team dynamics This approach ensures a more profound transformation in team culture, fostering a cohesive and highperforming team environment

MASTERING CLIENT COMMUNICATION: ESSENTIAL COACHING TIPS FOR LAWYERS PRACTICING IN WILLS AND ESTATES

Estate planning is not a subject people are excited to talk about. People do not feel the urgency to address the issue and find it uncomfortable to talk about. So as practitioners in this area of law, how can we make the process easier? I think it all hinges on our communication with clients I believe there are key strategies to use with our clients

1. Building Trust Through Clear Communication:

I believe people do not understand the importance of estate planning. The general public is unaware of the tax implications that death brings nor how the law deals with someone’s assets and beneficiaries when they pass.

It is important to explain clearly to clients what the different documents are, why they are essential, and the financial savings that a plan will afford them. This helps them build trust with you. When they understand you are encouraging them to act because you are looking out for their best interests, they are more likely to do so. It is also important that they know the impacts of not having a properly executed plan in place.

Offer guidance that builds trust and ensures they walk away with the plan they really want and need.

2. Understanding Client Emotions:

Many people hesitate because they feel that speaking about their death will make it more imminent or real. I gently remind them that planning will not change this but will guarantee that when the time comes - and it will for all of us - we are prepared, and things are in order.

A simple analogy can help reinforce this message. For instance, we do not purchase car insurance intending to get in accidents,

but we do so because if it were to happen, we want the security of knowing we are prepared.

We all want that for our loved ones too when we die. The important piece is to ensure that clients feel like you are seeing them as individuals and their needs as unique to them. They do not want to be treated as a file number.

It is important to be mindful of cultural backgrounds that may inform how your client views this topic too You need to be sensitive to this and address the issues in ways they are comfortable with

3. Managing Expectations:

Managing client expectations from beginning to end is very important Clients want to understand how much the process will cost, what is included in the pricing, what they can expect from you, but also what you expect from them to ensure a successful outcome

Explaining your process, including when they can expect everything to be completed, is key Clients are more likely to proceed when they understand it will not be difficult to complete and that it is your intention to ensure a smooth experience for them Throughout the planning process, it is important to provide the necessary guidance as well Clients are relying on you as the expert to help them create the plan that is best for them and their loved ones

THE IMPACT OF COACHING IN SURVIVING A LIFE CRISIS

Has life ripped a giant hole in the fabric of your reality?

Life crises like – jobs, personal relationships, death, illness, injury, all the dramas of life.

The common factor in these events is loss Lost job, lost relationship, lost loved one Lost expectations about how life is supposed to be

Lost identity

When we experience loss, we grieve.

We grieve the person, or the thing, we’ve lost Even more, perhaps, we grieve the part of ourselves we’ve lost We’re so accustomed to knowing ourselves in relation to that person, it’s difficult to remember who we were before Difficult to imagine who we might become after We miss them terribly And we miss the person we used to be

So there we are. Grieving. Lost. Alone. At a crossroads. Do we stay in the grief? Or do we create and claim a new, greater identity for ourselves?

We’ve all heard that time heals The truth is, time heals only when you use that time with conscious intention to heal

Coaching provides a conscious, intentional pathway of healing from the grief and the loss. Coaching supports you as you rebuild the foundations of your life to stand firm in the face of major life events

It supports you as you grieve – a vital part of the process Messy 5 stages and more Not on any timetable Unique to you

Yet, it need not devolve into a vast slough of darkness and despair With coaching – the right coaching –grief can become your personal journey of discovery, exploration, creation, appreciation for who, or what, you’ve lost, for who you are now becoming The framework to reframe your life Coaching weaves together the loose ends of your reality

Like a master artisan, it guides you in the ancient art of Kintsugi. Rips, tears, breaks, fractures are mended with gold, silver, platinum, diamonds, stardust As you decorate, celebrate, and ornament your life, you transform the seeming tragedies to create a life that is more dazzling than before!

Three key coaching perspectives that provide the reframe for your dazzling transformation:

Live your values

Reclaim your power to stand firm

Become the thermostat of your life

When you know your core values, you can choose to live them each day. As you live out your values, you can choose to stand firm in the face of all challenges As you stand firm, you discover that you are the thermostat of your own life You CHOOSE the environment, the tone of your life – joy, peace, contentment, or something greater

EMBRACING QUIET LEADERSHIP: TACKLING THE UNIQUE OBSTACLES OF INTROVERT LEADERS

In the role of an emerging leader where charisma and extroversion often take center stage, the quiet strength of introverted leaders can be both a powerful asset and a subtle challenge. As an introvert who has navigated the complexities of high-level management, I've learned that our reflective nature and deepthinking abilities are great assets in the leadership toolbox. However, some of these same qualities can sometimes create unexpected hurdles in our path to success.

In this article, we'll explore the top unique challenges faced by quiet leaders, focusing on two critical blindspots that many encounter: the perception of aloofness and the struggle with networking

By shining a light on these often-overlooked aspects of introverted leadership, we aim to equip fellow quiet leaders with strategies to leverage their inherent strengths while skillfully maneuvering through the extroverted expectations of the business world.

One of the critical challenges that is often a blind spot for introverted leaders is the tendency for deep reflection. This can be misinterpreted as aloofness or unapproachability; creating unintended barriers. This challenge strikes at the heart of team dynamics and trust, potentially undermining our leadership effectiveness

Challenge: Introverts' tendency for introspection can be misinterpreted as aloofness.

Quiet Leader Tip: Leverage written communication skills, empathy, and a calm demeanor to enhance leadership effectiveness and approachability:

·Provide concise, action-oriented updates focusing on results and key decisions.

Demonstrate decisive leadership through clear, direct communications during crises Incorporate engaging storytelling elements in your communications to inspire and motivate Express empathy and interest in team members' work and well-being through thoughtful written or verbal check-ins, adapting your approach to individual preferences Regularly share insights and updates through well-crafted emails or internal posts, tailoring content and style to your audience.

Secondly, for many introverted leaders, this aspect of professional networking and socializing can feel daunting and draining, yet it's crucial for leadership advancement, resource acquisition and business success. Many introverted leaders underestimate its importance or struggle to engage effectively in networking activities.

Breaking Trauma's Hold: "Helping business leaders break through childhood barriers and align their energies to succeed in wealth, health and relationships."

POWERFUL WOMEN TODAY

TRAUMA IS NOT A FOUR-LETTER WORD

Trauma is not a “4 Letter Word”. It may be scary and overwhelming, and seemingly insurmountable to overcome However, if you’re alive, you’ve experienced trauma

These experiences aren’t always catastrophic events. They can be big or small. Trauma defined as any event that is beyond a person’s ability to master at the time. According to renowned trauma expert Bessel van der Kolk, trauma stems from two things, 1) Something that happens to you or, 2) Something that doesn’t happen for you.

Trauma is a normal part of human experience.

Whether traumas are big or small, they shape who we are and how we see the world

Acknowledgment helps us be more compassionate toward ourselves and others. Understanding helps us to heal and grow We are all on a journey toward wholeness

The impact of childhood trauma on adult success is profound. The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) study reveals that nearly two-thirds of participants reported at least one ACE, with more than one in five experiencing three or more. These experiences have been linked to long-term health problems, mental illness, and even reduced financial stability.

Unresolved trauma can hinder personal growth, relationships, and career achievements, creating barriers to success that seem insurmountable. Trauma is simple to identify and remedy Adult challenges occur any time there is resistance to moving forward, particularly around money

Financial struggles often highlight underlying trauma Issues such as anxiety about spending, fear of financial decisions, or even feelings of unworthiness around money are subtle manifestations of trauma

These reactions stem from unresolved issues in our past, influencing our current behaviors and decisions. You're not alone. It's okay to seek support on your path to healing. Acknowledgement, validation, and trust is paramount and crucial for trauma breakthroughs. They bring emotional resilience, flexibility, and a refreshing new outlook on life‘s possibilities

Here is a nugget from Cheri’s own traumahealing journey:

“Chained to my business, I sacrificed my personal life. Sleepless nights, depression, and exhaustion plagued me. One average day, I received clarity. I realized my beliefs were holding me hostage. I broke free, transforming my life and my family's. Now, I help others design personalized freedom plans and create their perfect life.”

Through her full-spectrum approach, Cheri offers a path to unlocking a brighter, more fulfilling future.

POWERFUL WOMEN TODAY

M A G A Z I N E

THE POWER OF FAITH-BASED COACHING AND EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP

I've had the privilege of working with individuals across various professions. Regardless of their role or industry, I always begin our journey with a personal inventory This initial session involves evaluating the ten pillars of life, scoring each from 1 to 10 where 1 indicates a significant need for improvement and 10 represents optimal satisfaction This exercise establishes a baseline for our coaching relationship, providing a clear picture of where my clients currently stand

Executive coaching transcends mere job performance. It's about achieving a harmonious balance between work and personal life The interplay between home and work environments is undeniable; struggles in one area invariably affect the other Recognizing this, I approach coaching holistically, aiming to create a supportive environment that fosters overall success

One particularly impactful aspect of this process is exploring the spiritual dimension of the ten pillars.

As a Christian, I often ask clients if they are open to incorporating faith into our sessions Surprisingly, no one has ever declined this invitation For instance, I once coached a Nurse Administrator who was struggling in her new role and had been placed on a performance improvement plan Through our sessions, not only did she enhance her professional skills, but she also rekindled her relationship with God

Despite the ultimate outcome of her job situation, she found peace and joy through her renewed faith, demonstrating the profound impact of spiritual well-being on professional performance

This experience underscored a crucial insight: leaders transitioning from director roles to higher executive positions often flounder because they fail to adapt their leadership style. They don't realize that success at higher levels requires a shift from doing the work themselves to empowering their team to achieve goals. This invisible line between managerial and executive responsibilities necessitates a different approach to leadership, including effective delegation, strategic visioning, and team development

As I continue to expand my coaching practice, I've noticed that Christian executives are particularly drawn to my faith-based approach Integrating God into our coaching sessions consistently yields profound outcomes For example, I once worked with a Christian Physician Chief who faced pressure to inflate performance evaluations for certain team members. By asking, "What would Jesus do?" we navigated these ethical dilemmas, ensuring integrity and fairness. This question simple yet powerful often guides us through challenging situations, elevating our coaching to new heights.

BALANCING ACT: WOMEN EXCELLING IN WORK-LIFE INTEGRATION AN ALLY’S PERSPECTIVE

Imagine for a moment that you have the power to travel back in time. You are standing face to face with the first human pair, let’s call them Adam and Eve. What questions would stir in your mind? Personally, I would be curious about their perspectives on gender roles. How did they come to define their duties and responsibilities? Did they naturally fall into certain roles, or was it a conscious decision?

As a grandson to an early-age widowed grandmother, a son to a passionate mother, and a brother to four incredible sisters, I grew up witnessing firsthand the grace with which the women in my life manage their multifaceted roles, which has been my first profound lesson in leadership. resilience and partnership.

I recently asked my mother in a recorded interview, how she seamlessly blended her career with her household activities, and she answered “The support and care of your father, my love for my family, my passion for my career, and a lot of meticulous planning and open dialogue. I never tried to balance, I aimed for a harmonious life.”

The narrative of “balance” is often misleading for everyone, it suggests an equal distribution of time and effort, which rarely reflects reality Instead work-life integration and harmony are about the fluidity of roles, where professional and personal responsibilities coexist, supported by adaptability and understanding. My global experience has shown me that the challenge of integrating work and personal life is a universal struggle for women.

Men, as allies, play a crucial role by advocating and fostering a culture of integration and harmony for all genders. We definitely do not have all the answers, yet we can actively listen to women’s experiences and collaborate to find solutions that work for everyone.

One often overlooked challenge is the mental load placed on women in managing multi-tasks. Even when men offer to help with household duties, for example, the constant need to delegate or remind them can feel like an additional emotional burden on women

Men can shift from a reactive to a proactive attitude, instead of waiting to be instructed, initiate a conversation about responsibilities sharing, observe what needs to be done, and jump in

Women can help themselves and upcoming generations, starting with their sons, by instilling values of work-life integration and gender equality and equity.

The journey of work-life integration is unique for every woman, yet the common thread is the pursuit of harmony By embracing flexibility, fostering support, and challenging traditional “scripts”, we can all be part of creating a more inclusive and balanced society for everyone

THE LINK BETWEEN HAIR AND INCOME: HOW YOUR LOCKS INFLUENCE JOB INTERVIEWS

Your appearance can significantly impact your professional journey, particularly during job interviews. One often-overlooked aspect of personal grooming is hair. As a Premium Hair Holistic Coach, I have observed that the condition and style of your hair can be a powerful indicator of your overall health and self-care habits, influencing your income potential and career success

The First Impression

First impressions are formed within seconds, and your hair is a prominent feature that can either enhance or detract from your professional image. During a job interview, a well-maintained and stylish hairdo can convey that you are detailoriented, disciplined, and attentive to personal care. Employers often associate these traits with higher levels of competence and reliability. Unkept or unhealthy-looking hair may inadvertently suggest a lack of professionalism or poor time management skills.

Hair as a Health Indicator

Healthy hair is often a reflection of a healthy lifestyle A balanced diet, regular exercise, and proper hair care routines contribute to strong, vibrant locks Potential employers might perceive candidates with healthy hair as more energetic and capable of handling job-related stress On the other hand, thinning, brittle, or excessively oily hair could be seen as signs of underlying health issues or high-stress levels, potentially raising concerns about your ability to perform well in a demanding role.

Psychological Impact

Your hair can also have a profound impact on your self-esteem and confidence, which are crucial during job interviews. When you feel good about your appearance, you are likely to project confidence and positivity This can make a significant difference in how you present yourself and interact with interviewers Confidence can be a key differentiator, often swaying hiring decisions in your favor

Economic Benefits

Investing in your hair care can yield long-term economic benefits. A polished and professional appearance can lead to better job opportunities, promotions, and higher income. Employers are more likely to invest in employees who present themselves well, as it reflects positively on the company’s image.

Top Three Hair Mistakes in Job Interviews

Neglecting Regular Maintenance: Overgrown roots, split ends, and untrimmed hair can signal a lack of attention to detail and personal grooming

1. Using Excessive Products: Overusing hair products can make your hair look greasy or unnatural, giving an impression of poor hygiene and desperation to impress 2

HUMAN COACHING IN THE WORLD OF AUTOMATION

The power of deep listening and personal connection cannot be automated. As a coach and automation expert, I've witnessed firsthand the benefits of streamlining processes and leveraging technology to enhance efficiency. At the same time, I have also come to understand that the human element in coaching remains irreplaceable, especially when it comes to addressing overwhelm and fostering personal growth.

My journey as a coach took an unexpected turn when I was diagnosed with Abductor Spasmodic Dysphonia, a neurological condition that affected my ability to speak “normally.” This challenge, while initially daunting, became a catalyst for developing my most valuable coaching skill: deep listening. In a world where automation can handle many routine tasks, the ability to truly hear and understand our clients sets human coaches apart.

Automation in coaching has its place. It can streamline administrative tasks, schedule sessions, and even provide basic guidance. What it lacks, however, is the nuanced understanding of human emotions, the ability to read between the lines, and the capacity to offer personalized support that adapts in real-time to a client's needs. As coaches, our role is to complement automation, not compete with it.

One of the most significant advantages of human coaching is the ability to address overwhelm effectively. While automated systems can track tasks and send reminders, they are unable to grasp the emotional weight of a packed schedule or the underlying reasons for procrastination As a coach, I have found that helping clients navigate overwhelm often requires a combination of strategic planning and intuitive guidance – something that automation alone cannot provide

I reconnected with the healing power of nature during a transformative backpacking trip a number of years ago and this is another aspect of coaching that automation can't replicate This experience taught me the importance of intentional disconnection from technology and reconnection with oneself In our coaching practices, we can encourage clients to step away from their screens and engage with the natural world, fostering resilience and clarity that no app or algorithm can match

As we move forward in this age of automation, coaches need to embrace technology where it enhances our work while steadfastly maintaining the human touch. Our ability to listen deeply, empathize genuinely, and guide intuitively are our greatest assets By combining the efficiency of automation with the irreplaceable qualities of human interaction, we can create a powerful synergy that truly serves our clients.

While automation has revolutionized many aspects of coaching, the essence of our work remains deeply human. As coaches, our challenge is to harness the benefits of technology while preserving the personal connection, empathy, and intuitive guidance that only a human coach can provide. By doing so, we help our clients navigate the complexities of modern life, overcome overwhelm, and achieve personal transformation in ways that automation alone never could.

WHY COACHING DRIVES SUCCESS. THE SECRET WEAPON OF HIGH ACHIEVERS

I’ve been talking to a lot of business owners I met at a recent conference. The fact that a lot of them have invested in a lot of fruitless programs to grow their business, is the complaint that I hear from a lot of them when I tell them how I think I can help their businesses move forward. Here’s what happens when a business has invested their brains out in coaching programs and yet they are still struggling to have a steady flow of profitable clients

1. They Give Up

They’ve tried everything, emptied their savings, invested in not just one but many coaching programs They’ve diligently implemented everything they could so what could one more coach teach they that they haven’t already tried? These folks are ready to give up and get a job or just accept their fate that they were never meant to be a great success.

2. They Delay Decisions

Once a business owner has been ‘burned’, they delay the pain of making the unpleasant decision of moving forward by saying “I’m just not ready to face the same disappointment again” This is just another form of saying ‘no’ If they are not growing, they are dying

3. They Blame

Successful people take responsibility for their results When I hired coaches who couldn’t help

me, it was because I hadn’t identified what my real need was and hadn’t done due diligence to figure out if they had that expertise around my real need

Still, I learned from both good coaches and bad coaches I succeeded anyway because I was so incredibly determined to When business owners are spending time and energy blaming others, or circumstances, it’s been my experience that NO coach can help them.

I know first-hand, that using coaches to build success works. However, you must get over these above mindset hurdles. Then, you will have nothing but success.

The Legacy of Women and Witches

POWERFUL WOMEN TODAY

M A G A Z I N E

HOW TO UNLEASH YOUR INNER WITCH: THE LEGACY OF WOMEN AND WITCHES

The figure of the witch has long captivated the imagination, embodying power, mystery, and defiance. For centuries, the image of the witch has been both feared and revered, often reflecting society’s anxieties about women who dared to step outside prescribed roles. Yet, the legacy of witches is also a legacy of resilience, wisdom, and empowerment a legacy that modern women can tap into to unleash their inner witch

Historically, witches were women who wielded power whether through knowledge of herbal medicine, spiritual practices, or simply by living independently. They were often marginalized and persecuted for defying patriarchal norms, their strength and autonomy seen as threats to the established order. The witch hunts of the early modern period, which led to the persecution of thousands of women, were not just about rooting out superstition they were about controlling women’s bodies, voices, and choices.

But the witch, rather than being vanquished, has risen as a symbol of empowerment. In the 20th and 21st centuries, the witch has been reclaimed by feminists as an icon of resistance and self-determination. The modern “witch” movement is less about spells and potions and more about embracing the qualities that witches have historically represented: intuition, independence, and an unyielding connection to nature and the self.

To unleash your inner witch is to tap into this legacy of feminine power. It’s about embracing your intuition and trusting your inner voice It’s about reclaiming your autonomy and standing firm in your beliefs, even when they challenge the status quo. It’s about connecting with the natural world and recognizing the cycles of life and energy that flow through you.

So, light a candle, draw a circle, and call upon the power of the women who came before you. Unleashing your inner witch is not just an act of rebellion; it’s a profound connection to a lineage of women who understood their power and were unafraid to wield it.

Witchy Fun Facts

The iconic image of witches flying on broomsticks stems from medieval folklore, symbolizing rebellion and freedom through a household tool turned magical vehicle.

The witch's pointed hat, originating from medieval wise women, has become a powerful and enduring symbol of mystical authority and enchantment.

The moon, particularly the full moon, is a potent symbol of witchcraft, representing the connection to feminine power, intuition, and the cycles of nature

Witches in pop culture, from the Wicked Witch of the West to Sabrina the Teenage Witch, have evolved into powerful, multifaceted icons of strength and mystery

THANKSGIVING IS A DISH BEST SERVED DAILY! BY POWERFUL

WOMEN TODAY

Why is it getting harder and harder to relate to the Norman Rockwell paintings of big holiday meals and calm serene Hallmark® movie moments? Because our anxieties are overflowing, some of us are still stressed from last year and perhaps if we’re honest, we just aren’t very grateful However, if we took a huge 5-second breath in, held it for 5, and then slowly exhaled while we thought of something we were grateful for, even doing that just once would help us to find a great sense of calm

Now could you try to do this daily, not just once a year?

Ingredients

1 cup of mindfulness

3 generous spoonfuls of appreciation

5 sprigs of reflection

1 pinch of perspective

2 tablespoons of positivity

1 journal or notepad

A comfortable space to sit quietly

Family and friends (optional, but highly recommended)

Instructions

Start with Mindfulness: Begin your day by setting aside a quiet moment for mindfulness. Find a comfortable space, close your eyes, and take a few deep breaths. Focus on the present moment, allowing yourself to feel calm and centred

Mix in Appreciation: Think about three things you’re grateful for today These can be big or small a loving family, the warmth of a cup of coffee, or the beauty of a fall day Allow yourself to feel genuine appreciation for these blessings

Add Reflection: Reflect on a positive experience from the past year What challenges did you overcome? Who supported you along the way? Take a few moments to acknowledge your growth and the support you received

Sprinkle in Perspective: Consider the broader picture How do the things you’re grateful for contribute to your overall well-being? How might your life be different without them? This pinch of perspective will deepen your gratitude

Stir in Positivity: Write down your thoughts in a journal or notepad Expressing gratitude in writing helps solidify the positive feelings and makes it easier to recall them later 5

Share with Others (Optional): If you’re spending the day with family or friends, share your gratitude with them Whether it’s during a Thanksgiving meal or a casual conversation, expressing your appreciation aloud can strengthen your connections.

7.

Serve Daily: Practice this recipe every day, not just on Thanksgiving. A daily dose of gratitude can transform your outlook, bringing more joy, resilience, and contentment into your life.

Enjoy the warmth and fulfillment that daily gratitude brings to your Thanksgiving and beyond!

“Ordinary

Moments: Living Your Extraordinary Life” excerpt from her upcoming book

POWERFUL WOMEN TODAY

M A G A Z I N E

“ORDINARY

MOMENTS: LIVING YOUR EXTRAORDINARY LIFE”

Life’s moments can be extraordinary. Those moments we anticipate because we know in advance how extraordinary they’ll be – marriage, the birth of a child, holding that child in your arms for the first time, the fabulous vacation you’ve been planning. All of those great events of life.

But mostly life is made of ordinary moments. The 1,440 minutes that make up our days, are broken down into smaller increments of moments and instants. Those moments that catch us unawares, which we deem to be extraordinary only upon examination, in retrospect.

As T.S. Eliot says, “[w]e had the experience but missed the meaning, And approach to the meaning restores the experience In a different form . . .” (The Dry Salvages, Four Quartets)

The ordinary moment in which you meet your true love for the first time is extraordinary only afterward when you come to understand the depth of feeling you have for that person.

The ordinary moment of a sudden illness or injury, whether your own or of someone you love, is extraordinary because of how completely it transforms your life.

It is in those moments, those instants, that our lives change most dramatically. In the twinkling of an eye.

How do we navigate the new path upon which those instants thrust us? The untraveled road we never sought out as we embark upon the hero’s journey we never asked for? When everything is turned upside down, spinning all around us?

Join me as we discover the ordinary moments of our hero’s journeys together. We’ll reframe tragedy into triumph and transformation. We’ll explore practical steps you can take each day to survive, thrive, and come alive to the new possibilities that your ordinary moments offer you. We’ll unleash your true self, your angel. Ready? Set? Off to the stars!

Chapter 12

Sadie made the decision to complete her college degree. She was nervous about sharing this with the others but when she did, they were unanimously in favor and supportive. Not wanting to put the momentous decision off, Sadie took the bus to Berkeley the next morning, met with a counselor (who actually thought she was too old), and filled out the paperwork. Sadie also applied for a scholarship and a loan.

In the meantime, Sadie applied for and got a job at a diner not too far from campus. She knew she’d have to take the bus home late sometimes, but it was close enough to walk from class to work. Things were starting to fall into place. She had a new life plan for the first time in years. She has goals and envisioned steps to reach those goals. She knew her endgame but she hadn’t figured out what to do after that. Teaching might be an option, but Sadie just wasn’t sure.

When classes began in the Fall, Sadie was thrust into a brand new world where ideas were welcomed, opinions were based in fact, and people actually wanted to hear what Sadie had to say She made new friends and went new places For the first time in a very long time, Sadie began to relax and enjoy life She knew where she was going and she knew how to get there It didn’t matter that there might be difficult times, she’d been to hell and made it back, she knew she could handle whatever life threw at her

Some of her friends invited her to a place not far from the college where there were poetry readings Sadie had always had Black friends but this place was where Black culture was celebrated on a daily basis Sadie began to learn about a different history than was taught in schools and developed a passion for poetry listening to a woman named Maya who wrote about a caged bird That’s what Sadie had felt like for so long;now she wouldwrite about it

She took classes in writing, poetry, and Black history. She had a hunger to create, share, and express herself and took far more classes than her degree required. Sadie joined in the campaigns demanding more diverse classes. And then she discovered the women’s groups. Female professors were a new thing - suddenly there were women teaching a completely new perspective on just about everything. Sadie was enthralled. She wanted to be part of this new revolution and joined in campaigns and demonstrations. Sadie felt a freedom she had never known and it was intoxicating.

The other side of all that was new and grand was the groups of women who had suffered trauma and had no idea where to go to get help. There were rape groups and abusive relationship groups and work harassment groups. Sadie was overwhelmed at first; she thought she was the only woman who was stupid enough to get entangled in an abusive marriage She found out there were lots of women who needed help

So Sadie, who by now was a full-blown activist, went to see her beloved friend, Cindy

Chapter 13

Explaining all that she had learned recently, Sadie barely took a breath as she explained the spectrum of traumatic events described by the women in her groups She went on and on about how it was dreadful and how it was wrong until finally Cindy stopped her

“Girl, did you really think you were the only one??” Cindy asked incredulously

“Yes, I did! I had no idea that abuse and disrespect and violence was so incredibly widespread - this is wrong, it’s so wrong What can we do about it?”

Powerful Women Today Magazine

Cindy looked at Sadie and shook her head. “Well, first, you have to understand that this kind of stuff has been going on forever. It’s not new, and you’re not the firstto realize it. Second, I work on this very thing every single day. It’s thankless work because most women go back to their abusive man because they can’t make ends meet on their own. And third, you can’t solve this problem on your own. It takes education and new laws and training for the police because their current approach is it’s none of their business. Rape victims are often told they asked for it. Even incest victims. Yes, it’s wrong, but you are looking at generations and centuries of entrenched attitudes. And you’ve got to start with the younger generation and educate them, men and women, boys and girls. It will be a thankless, endless job and it will seem pointless at times. You need to think about this. Hard. It’s the kind of thing that will drain the life out of you.”

Sadie sat down. She looked out the window. There was a long silence as Cindy waited for Sadie to absorb it all. Finally, Sadie spoke.

“If I don’t do this, then what was it all for? Mickey’s death, me falling apart, getting trapped in stuff I didn’t believe in, just so I could feel something even if it was pain? Why did I get mixed up with a man who sees women as property, as something to use up? If I can’t do something with all of that, then what was it for?”

Cindy sighed and looked Sadie in the eye. “Okay then. You focus on graduating. Get your classes done. I’ll come up with a plan and then we’ll talk it through.”

The women hugged, and, realizing they were beginning something huge, they cried a little. Cindy walked Sadie to the bus stop.

Sadie looked at Cindy and softly said, “You’re the best person, the most generous person I’ve ever known, Cindy Thank you for not laughing at me or telling me it was impossible or giving me reasons why nothing will ever change I love ya”

Cindy laughed, “Well, it may actually be impossible, but sometimes you gotta try even though some people might think you shouldn’t. I love you too, kid.”

Chapter 14

Graduation was a big deal to Sadie; she had taken so many classesshe had a double major, Public Policy and Journalism. All her people were there, Cindy, Alma, Mary, Jon. It was like a big family event. As she looked around at her Journalism Department graduation celebration (commencement ceremonies were suspended during the “ongoing campus unrest” period, so departments took it

upon themselves to have separate graduation events), she thought about how different her life was compared to her earlier plans and preparations. She thought about Mickey. She still missed him every day, but she was here and this was now so she had to get on with it. She missed her parents being at the momentous event but they hadn’t spoken to her since she told them she was divorced. Most of all, Sadie thought about her plans to build a Women’s Center where women could find shelter, solace, education, job skills, and support. Sadie, Cindy, Alma, Mary, and Jon joined forces to raise the funds and find the way through the city’s red tape to get it done. Hopefully, by year’s end, they would have their Center built and ready to go.

Finally, the celebrations were over and Sadie walked around campus, missing it already. But she was ready for the next challenge. Jon’s deep voice woke her from her thoughts.

“C’mon,” he announced, “I’m starving, what’re we gonna eat?”

As they all piled into Cindy’s car, there was the inevitable how about Chinese? No, Indian, no, I’m hungry for Mexican, how about pizza

Powerful Women Today Magazine

Jon finally halted the conversation with, “No! We’re going to John’s Grill for steak! This is a Big Occasion! We’ve got to celebrate and it’s my treat, so no arguing! And while I’ve got a captive audience, make NO plans for next weekend, Friday afternoon through Monday morning I’ve made plans for all of us for all weekend ”

Chapter 15

When Friday arrived, everyone was standing outside the big Victorian house in jeans, hiking shoes, and their backpacks. All Jon would say was that they were going hiking. So when he drove up in a borrowed VW van, everyone began talking at once wanting to know what was going on.

They took off heading southeast so everybody knew immediately they were headed for the mountains. This, of course, just increased the excitement. None of them had been to the mountains since Sadie arrived.

They traveled southpast Modesto, and toward Fresno Jon took a sharp left turn before they actually got into Fresno and Mary announced, “I know where we’re going!”

“No you don’t,” challenged Jon

“Yes, I do! I’m gonna write on this little piece of paper and put it in your pocket You can read it when we get there!”

Almost an hour later, they arrived at the Sierra National Forest. Of course, there was another explosion of WOW! And AMAZING and exciting. And Mary made sure Jon read the little note so everybody would know she guessed correctly.

Which of course was hilarious. Jon stopped and got the necessary sticker and filled out the paperwork. Then he droveup into the mountains to a smallcamp area where there was only one other tent, way down the hill near the lake.

See “Patterson” page 93

Vaughan, from page 13

Unfortunately, potential clients typically don’t know enough to get equally excited - in fact the “how’s” diminish desire.

For example, “I teach an ancient Eastern healing modality called breathwork” vs “I help busy moms who work stressful corporate jobs create harmony at home and be compassionate moms, no matter how demanding the workday was.”

Which sentence conveys more value? Desire is always directly linked to value. And value is different for different people, which brings me to the final step.

Step 3: Choose your Ideal Client Avatar. Who places extremely high value on the outcomes you provide? Define and find those people When you focus on serving those who already crave and value the outcomes you provide, there’s no need for convincing, and you can raise your fees with confidence

And now the fun starts!

Navigating Family Dynamics:

Powerful Women Today Magazine

An aspect of estate planning that needs to be dealt with delicately is determining the family dynamics for clients People are hesitant, understandably, to air their dirty laundry with a virtual stranger

As part of my intake process or initial meetings with clients, I will ask them to tell me about their family. I also ask how everyone gets along. Be mindful that they may not share everything right away.

Pay attention to cues that suggest you should be digging deeper. Make sure your clients understand why you are asking these questions, that the purpose for your questions is to ensure you tailor their plan to suit their circumstances

There may be a need for them to understand the role of a trustee and a power of attorney as well Understanding the responsibilities and messy family dynamics could impact the process will help them choose suitable individuals

The Importance of Active Listening:

Like any conversation, active listening is essential to understand clients’ needs and concerns This way you alleviate unfounded worries and provide them with tailored solutions for concerns that need to be addressed

Clients do not want to feel like you are simply using template documents to create their plans. They want unique plans to match their situations.

The advice you provide needs to show that you have a clear understanding of their assets, tax implications, and their personal and business wishes and needs.

Ask questions and answer their questions Taking the time to do this demonstrates that you care about them and enables you to provide them with a holistic plan

continued in the next colum

Continual Professional Development:

Seeking ongoing coaching and professional development ensures you are providing clients with accurate and current advice and information It also increases your confidence This results in higher quality services and expands the complexity of planning you are able to provide

Ongoing coaching and mentorship from more seasoned lawyers will improve your ability to connect with clients more deeply and ensure you are using best practices.

Implementing these strategies with each client and remaining eager to obtain coaching and professional development throughout our careers allows us to be efficient and effective in providing our services. The outcome is greater client satisfaction, which we all strive for

“Okay, everybody out, Mary and Alma, you set up the tents, Sadie see if you can get some kindling, I brought firewood but we need kindling, Cindy, help me get all the supplies organized so we can have something to eat”

“You’re sure the bossy one today,” teased Cindy

“Yeah, you chicks always run over me in our conversations, today, I’m the head dude,” and they both laughed.

Sadie wandered a short distance from the van. She picked up a few loose sticks and branches for kindling. She walked to the edge of the postcard- perfect lake. Suddenly she remembered the trip to San Francisco with Jim. She remembered the hikers climbing the mountain along the road. And she remembered a promise that she made to herself that she had forgotten

She promised herself that she would return to these mountains and hike, that she would look out across the magnificent beauty of the trees, the sky, the water, the rocks, the impossible wonder of creation, here where it was so lightly touched by humans The tears began to flow, she sat on a boulder and sobbed Sadie cried for the unbearable beauty, the fulfillment of a promise made, and for the realization she had built a life in the face of impossibility

Jon and the women walked softly to where Sadie sat They sat next to her and they all were silent and listened to the trees. A fish jumped out of the water, almost silently. There were deer across the lake, and an eagle whispered her soft, high-pitched call. Sadie was home.
