July 2020 June

Dear friends and supporters, Thank you so much for your support during this last unprecedented year We are diligently developing art education and entrepreneurial training opportunities that will be made available and tailored to each participant, regardless of their background or previous experience.
In response to COVID 19 closures and pre existing barriers to engagement for POVA artists, we made many changes in order to improve Artist Collective program accessibility. Below are a few of the ways we adapted during FY 2020 2021:
Created new ways in which our artists were able to engage with our programming (i.e. digital forms, art supply care packages, delivery volunteer positions, etc).
Created new ways for potential customers all over the globe to interact and purchase artwork (i.e. virtual gallery space, virtual events, online art style quizzes)
Received donated laptops from Dell Technologies to provide virtual learning and engagement opportunities for artists
Started coordinating studio appointments with artists so they could work independently
Your generous support this year has helped us develop our virtual participation options year round, so that we can reach participants who physically cannot attend our in person programming due to physical and mental illness, transportation limitations, and more.
Again, thank you for demonstrating your belief in our work through donating. We look forward to connecting with you and showing you the impact your dollars make in the lives of hardworking artists with promising futures.

Kateri was selected and featured in fall 2020's Kid's Tent at Tennessee Craft's Virtual Fair alongside notable local artists. The Kid's Tent featured projects inspired by ten Tennessee artists who use traditional craft techniques in their work.
We shared our mission and work virtually at the ‘Arts & Homelessness International’ monthly conversation on Wed, March 31, 2021. We shared about Nashville’s unique creative community that helped POVA grow in its early stages. Our Founder and Executive Director, Nicole Minyard, shared about the organization’s mission as well as hosted a brief Q&A with POVA artists. Arts & Homelessness International (AHI) exists to bring positive change to people, projects, and policy in the homelessness sector through arts and creativity.
In an effort to adapt to the pandemic and increase sales for our artists as in person exhibitions were postponed, we started a 50in20 campaign to try to ship POVA artwork and reproductions to all 50 states by the end of 2020. We are thrilled to share that we sent a piece to the last state on our list (Vermont!) on December 22, 2020!
Each purchase provided the artist with the resources, income, and confidence to keep creating.
With your help, we shipped POVA artwork and reproductions to all 50 states in 2020!
Daniel Holmes joined our Artist Collective in December 2019. He was homeless for 3 years before moving into housing in 2019. Daniel loves graphite, acrylic painting, and art in the gothic and renaissance periods. He has been making art for ten years and loves learning to express beauty through different mediums. His favorite part about art is to see people smile from one of his finished pieces. Daniel wants to give back with his art and hopes to use part of the income he generates by selling his artwork to create a nonprofit that would provide food and support for single parent families. His past creative experiences include traveling the U.S. as a freelance artist experimenting with a range of genres from landscapes to personal portraits.
Daniel was one of our artists who was able to safely utizlize our studio this year during the pandemic. He took advantage of the independent time to create and grew his personal collection FY 20 21!
When Kateri began selling art at POVA in 2014, she was sleeping in a tent and relying on a cane and wheelchair to get around. She had no extra income for luxuries like bus fare. In 2015, Kateri was fortunate to receive much needed knee surgery, as well as transition into section 8 housing with the help of Open Table Nashville, Inc.
Over the last 6 years, Kateri has perfected her artistic craft, becoming a top seller year after year at POVA. However, her biggest limitation to success and participation in our program continued to be transportation. After WeGo's budget cuts, routes were reduced and buses would regularly be packed or broken down. While the knee surgery improved her mobility, Kateri still endured pain especially when waiting for hours at bus stops without shelters or benches.
After saving portions of her POVA artwork sales income, as well as saving her stimulus check, Kateri was finally able to purchase her own vehicle this month She is now accessing a newfound level of freedom like never before! Katerisays she's most looking forward to using her car to transport her own artwork like she did today
We are so proud of Kateri and thankful for everyone in our community who has invested in her artistic and personal life, whether through purchasing art, donating supplies, or volunteering time. You can continue to help our artists achieve their goals by shopping their works at PovertyandtheArts.org.
TO OUR PIVOTAL PARTNERS who continually widen the scope of resources and programs available to our artists, and especially to our recurring exhibition partners who increase the relationships between our artists and the community.
TO OUR DONORS & PATRONS whose support gives us the resources to meet our mission each and every day. We owe a special thanks to our major and monthly donors those who have committed to donating to provide stability in our planning for programs.
TO OUR VOLUNTEERS who allow us to grow our programming and accomplish our goals. We especially want to thank our delivery driver volunteers and studio volunteers who committed to volunteering regularly to help provide additional support for our artists to create and learn.
