ANNUAL REPORT

2019: Transitioning In 2019, Positive Impact New York began planning for the next decade as a non-profit. We began planning for the future by looking at our programs from the inside first. With the support of our advisory board, we worked to redefine our programs. We also reviewed our organizational goals and created a plan to lead us forward as we strengthen and enhance our model. This past year, our programs produced great outcomes. We strengthened our M.A.A.P and Bridge program models as well as introduced our Next Level Mentoring program. The Next Level Mentoring was developed in response to the growing number of young people that are either falling through the cracks at school or need an added push. The goal of the program is to prevent youths from having a turbulent transition to adulthood and offer positive support system to avoid the pitfalls that can derail their lives. The focus is slightly different at each level but the goal remains the same; empower the young person to make positive changes in his/her life. We partnered with Riverhead Charter School Middle School to provide mentoring to 19 boys and girls. This year-end report details our accomplishments in 2019 and looks forward to the future as Positive Impact New York continues to build on the success from last year. In the following pages, you will see the results of the hard work and dedication put forth by our staff, families and the community. Thank you to the whole Positive Impact New York family for making 2019 a transitional year for the organization. You continue to positively impact the lives of youth all over New York state. We would love your continued involvement in 2020, and we hope you can come to any one of our programs and see our youth in action Respectfully, Terrell Dozier, Executive Director

PROGRAMS M.A.A.P

BRIDGE

NEXT LEVEL

M.A.A.P is a student-athlete consultation service that provides them assistance with reviewing transcripts and schedules and ensuring that all clients are in compliance with NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) guidelines.

The Bridge Program is designed to provide incoming freshmen with tools and resources to jumpstart their first year in high school. Incoming freshmen have to deal with many new challenges on and off the court.

M.A.A.P empowers studentathletes by providing them with academic and athletic support services to increase the number of studentathletes prepared for high school and college.

The Bridge Program will introduce students to relevant topics that will teach them practices and habits they can use during their high school years.

Next Level Mentoring (NLM) is a youth mentoring program under the umbrella of Positive Impact New York, Inc. providing mentoring programs for middle school youth in Suffolk County. NLM was created in the memory of Gordon Hamilton, a personal friend to Executive Director, Terrell Dozier. Before his unfortunate passing in 2005, Gordon often spoke of plans for a program that would influence youth throughout his home state of Connecticut.

M.A.A.P. will serve as a support system for studentathletes and the challenges they face during their transition from middle school to high school and high school to college.

Students will be introduced to different activities that cover goal setting and time management, provided with opportunities to foster meaningful academic and social connections, and encouraged to take ownership of their academic journey.

Positive Impact New York will honor Gordon’s legacy that was cut short and continue the work he started. The program will form partnerships with local school districts. NLM’s goal is to foster a commitment to young people that will promote pro-social friendships, strong interpersonal skills, and reassert a sense of hope in the future.

Positive Impact New York is extremely proud of the people both Joseph and Grace have become through hardwork in the classroom and on the court. It’s because of these characteristics along with the help of their parents, high school and AAU programs that they both earned full athletic scholarships to their respective universities.
