AUTHENTICALLY ALIGNED: HOLISTIC CENTER:

Project Brief: The Authentically Aligned Holistic Center is moving from the busy Raleigh area to the secluded Green Field lake in Wilmington North Carolina. AAHC is looking to slow down and create a space that speaks to their established community. The center will reflect the client’s functional needs and aesthetic desires through sustainable and responsible decisions. Balance within the design helps to guide the users through the space in a reliable and predictable way. The vision of Authentically Aligned Holistic Center will focus on alternative medicine and a person’s whole health including body and mind. The treatments offered help to realign the physical body through chiropractic care and yoga sessions, and help to realign the mind via massage therapy, reiki healing, and sound healing.

Design Statement: The design of Authentically Aligned Holistic Center uses the warm and neutral tones of the water, sunlight, and biophilia of nature to create a safe and serene environment. The secluded location will contribute to the healing experience the users will feel as they enter the space. The center fosters a place where individuals can come together in community with likeminded individuals. The use of daylight assists in making the space a bright and uplifting space where people can be present and mindful. The dark wood tones bring in an element of nature that is cohesive with the lighter materials to create a visually balanced space.

Behind the Logo: The handful of things that are offered at the Authentically Aligned Holistic Center all have to do with hands that heal and the growth that comes from that. The logo is stemmed from the idea that growth happens when we heal and nurture ourselves.

SCARLET MIRROR: RESTAURANT

Project Brief: The client has hired you to verify the suitability of the site depicted in the plan provided for use as a restaurant. They have asked that you develop a preliminary design that meets the requirements listed and that includes a preliminary material palette. Based upon your findings, the client may sign a lease for the building or elect to review another local building that might better suit their needs.

Design Statement: The Scarlet Mirror is a place to look and feel your best on the inside and the outside. The use of mirrors in the design helps to elevate the space as well as give the customers opportunity to appreciate themselves. The reflective materials add a layer of depth and glamour that is carried through out the space. The various shapes and curves guide the users to the tables where they can enjoy an evening or meal. The red and black materials are balanced to create an environment that is inviting and loving while keeping the modern edge.

This parenting add from 1992 confirms that we go through a significant change where we do not truly see ourselves or our worth. This usually happens in the teenage years and typically isn’t addressed until our mid twenties or older. AKA after drinking age. My idea was to design a cocktail bar around healing our vision of ourselves while being in an free, fun and loving environment. The affirmations are scattered throughout the space and near mirrors so when reading the statements you can appreciate that you are telling yourselves the words rather than someone else. Many of us have no problem hyping up our friends but when it comes to our own self love we lack support.

NEXT OFFICE: OFFICE DESIGN

Project Brief: NEXT needs your help to design their new R&D Hub. NEXT would like the new space to not only reflect their overall company brand and culture but draw inspiration from the local area and region. NEXT is committed to being a collaborative and team-based organization. They want to make sure that their new workplace supports the way they work and how they might work in the future.

Design Statement: The NEXT Office was designed to support the ups and downs of productivity by creating universal areas that are separated by zones. The vibrant color and directional elements are used to guide the users throughout the productivity zones. The office is organized by colorful “neighborhoods” that have relaxed, focused, positive and creative intentions. As the user walks through the space they are drawn in by the pops of color throughout. The use of white materials balances the color in a successful way as to not overwhelm the users.

RAIN BEAUTY: RETAIL

Project Brief: Using the plan provided, students will design a brick and mortar retail space within a mall leasehold space. Only the retail floor space will be designed. Within the design, students must include a cash wrap (3’W min),ADA compliant components, provide well-designed circulation and reinforce the brand identity.

Design Statement: Rain Beauty is an open and organic space that uses natural materials to convey and earthy feel. The natural materials contribute to the sustainability that the company advocates for. The colors and patterns are used to transport the customer to a relaxing environment. The Scarlet Macaw bird is an important part of the branding in Rain Beauty, so much in fact that the company supports the endangered Scarlet Macaw birds by donating a 5% of their annual profits to the cause.

CHEROKEE STUDIOS PROJECT: MARIPOSA DESIGNS

Project Brief: You have been hired by a client to design the interiors of her new office space located on the first floor of an existing mixed use building, Cherokee Studios located in West Hollywood, California. The client owns a graphic design firm that is well known for its print, digital, and environmental work in the music and film industries. The design of the office should reflect a creative and collaborative work environment. The exterior architecture of the building must remain unchanged.

Design Statement: This design reflects the musical roots of the Cherokee Studio while still creating a naturalistic and sustainable space where work can be facilitated. Soft fabrics and vibrant color are paired to create a fun atmosphere.

MDC is what is used for most of the upholstery and wall covering through out the project. MDC Interior Solutions is 3rd party verified defined in ISO 14001 Environmental Management. Their responsibility statement includes a recycling program that reuses and recycles in both pre and post consumer waste.

Sustainable Statement: Mariposa Designs choose to participate in the LEED v4.1 Sourcing Raw Materials option by using recycled content materials, bio based products and wood products. The options listed will be sourced from three different reputable sustainable manufacturers. These sustainable decisions help impact the environment in positive ways.

I choose to use Urban Wood Goods as the reclaimed wood company. Their mission is to reuse old but stable wood from buildings that have outlived their time. The wood used is from the 1800s-1900s. The wood brings in a unique texture and grain for each one of a kind piece.

YOU MEDIA YOUTH CENTER LIBRARY

Project Brief: You-media has decided to expand its digital learning program to locations throughout the Midwest. You will design a teen space focused on digital learning at one of the Milwaukee Public Library locations. The library has identified approximately 3000 SF of space on the second floor that will be the future home for this project. This is a space where teens can hang out, get help with homework, experiment with design software in a range of disciplines, record music, and participate in a variety of digital media activities and workshops.

Design Statement: The newly renovated Milwaukee Public Library will convey a collaborative and team oriented space that facilitates an inviting and inclusive environment for the community to gather. By using color and organic texture inspired by nature the YOU Media center will fulfill a refreshing space for everyone.

This desk was custom made for functional everyday use while being completely ADA compliant. The ADA characteristics of the desk is the visible toe kick, and work space that comes up no further than 34 inches. The half moon shape of the front of the desk allows reception to help multiple people at once and supervise all areas of the teen center.
