13 Pony Club teams mounted up on their broomsticks for some spooky half term fun at Tedworth Park Polo Club for an Area 14 Pony Club tournament organised by Bethan Hitchman and Trini Stanhope-White. 21 chukkas were played, from Jorrocks to Loriner. There were some fantastic fancy dress outfits, including an appearance from Dracula and ponies painted as skeletons. Bev Nicholls, Jane Boers and Charlie Hitchman helped on the day and Lolly Stanhope-White umpired all 21 chukkas despite the rain, witches, ghosts, and pumpkins!
The next Area 14 Pony Club Tournament to be held at Tedworth Park is on Wednesday 21 December – The Christmas Tournament. All Pony Club entries are done online through Horse Events.

Matches began at 9am and 47 chukkas were played over the day
On an unseasonably sunny Sunday 20 November, 28 teams descended upon Oxford Polo Arena Club for a SUPA Friendly Arena Tournament. With 47 chukkas taking place over the course of the day, the first players took to the arena at 9am.
The day was aimed at getting as many of the children who do not get an opportunity to play polo outside of lessons, playing in a friendly tournament before the challenge of the Championships in 2023. There was an abundance of players new to the game as well as many familiar faces. All players went home happy with Christmas chocolates and a copy of Polo Times.
SUPA’s Gill Glimmerveen commented, “The new arena was amazing and with great team work from David, Hector, the Oxford polo team and SUPA stewards Caroline, Nigel, Luke and Gill, the event ran smoothly and even finished slightly early. Thank you for our continued support from RJ polo, Black hound Sports and Polo Times. We look forward to the next SUPA schools’ tournaments in 2023”

University Challenge
The first tournament of the new academic year kicked off on the weekend of 12 – 13 November at Rugby Polo Club. The Uni Challenge is designed for beginner players to experience their first tournament. However, over the years, it has gradually included more experienced players, who see it as a curtain-raiser for the February Winter Nationals.
With a total of 48 teams the numbers were roughly the same as last year, with a good turnout of beginner and median teams. SUPA also trialled a new automated system, aimed at making the days a lot simpler for both players and organisers. Everyone had access to an app that showed them the state of play at any given time of day. It also produced chukka lists and start times for day two which was useful for players, coaches and horse hirers. The trial went
