The VI HSBC Women’s Argentine Open

The VI HSBC Women’s Argentine Open Final took place in Palermo between La Dolfina and La Irenita E-Movility on Friday 2 December before The 129th HSBC Argentine Open Final.

La Dolfina has taken part in every Women’s Argentine Open since the tournament’s beginning and the team experience showed as they got off to a strong start, leading 3-0 in the first chukka after two goals from Nina Clarkin and one from Milagros Fernández Araujo. By half-time, underdogs La Irenita E-Movility had managed to chalk one goal onto the chalkboard, but La Dolfina had been busy as well with two goals of their own, meaning the scoreboard read 5-1 going into half-time.

La Irenita E-Movility took the break to regroup and the second half saw them work their way back into the match – Milagros Sanchez and Hope Arellano scored a goal each which helped to close the gap. However, La Dolfina refused to ease off the gas and with just one chukka left to play held a 7-4 lead. The sixth chukka was exhilarating as La Irenita E-Movility refused to give up and managed to narrow the gap down to two goals and with time left on the clock it looked like the match may run into over-time. Tournament top goal scorer, Nina Clarkin, had other ideas and a goal tally to add too and mercilessly scored back-to-back goals to take the score to 10-6 and well out of reach of a comeback for La Irenita E-Movility.

This win was La Dolfina’s fourth title in six years (in 2019 and 2020 they were runners-up), but still an achievement for La Irenita E-Movility who took part in the prestigious Final for the first time.
